pangy Posted 21 July, 2014 Share Posted 21 July, 2014 Other than the world cup not seen much of him,was quality for Holland,22 years old and available for £8mill. Based on what I have seen he would be perfect for us
Smirking_Saint Posted 21 July, 2014 Share Posted 21 July, 2014 Most players signing for us won't give a sh it about brand Southampton. Not being in Sunderland, and being quite close to London will give us an advantage from the get go. Id imagine most look at two things, cash and oppurtunity. Right now Id imagine its a hard job to sell oppurtunity considering they have seen nothing but us selling our crown jewells. As for cash surely thats not an issue considering the wages Id expect those crown jewells to have earnt and the fees recieved

Smirking_Saint Posted 21 July, 2014 Share Posted 21 July, 2014 Its not plausible since part of it us supposedly trying to sign a third quality rightback.... The rest I can't judge but I'm not really counting on that being close to the truth. Well in that case this isnt relevant considering he said he didnt know who we bid for but he thinks it may be janmaat

buctootim Posted 21 July, 2014 Share Posted 21 July, 2014 The biggest problem for us seems to be competing on wages. Given the amount we've banked (or will bank) in transfer fees maybe some of that cash would be better used on fat signing on bonuses to attract players. DuncanRG Posted 21 July, 2014 Share Posted 21 July, 2014 I'd be delighted if we signed De Vrij. Absolutely made up. Obviously United can outgun us but they've got some other high calibre targets. Let's hope they go for one of the others.
Saint Charlie Posted 21 July, 2014 Share Posted 21 July, 2014 Koeman aside, why would he want to come here, surely after starring for WC semi finalists he will want to play in Europe? If it happens then great, but can't see it. He is too high profile and reasonably priced for better teams than us to ignore it.
DuncanRG Posted 21 July, 2014 Share Posted 21 July, 2014 He very almost went to Lazio, who finished 9th in Serie A last year. The story suggests that the World Cup has raised his stock but at the moment only us and United have been mentioned. If anyone else is sniffing around, I haven't seen it reported. buctootim Posted 21 July, 2014 Share Posted 21 July, 2014 I'd be surprised if Man U went for him as a first choice player. They see themselves as Champions elect - a 19 year old left back and 22 yr old CB in the same team is too risky.

Olallana Posted 21 July, 2014 Share Posted 21 July, 2014 He might be smart enough to see us as a stepping stone and with a manager that knows him and that he knows rather than go to a club where he would be 3rd or 4th choice. Could at least hope so.

We are LINKED to a lot of players, but we don't appear to be signing many, especially any of the ones that Sir Les had said had been earmarked by the Transfer Committee months ago So, Saint Charlie is quite within his rights to "carp" on about a lack of "quality" signings Mind you, on here, you don't have any rights if you dare to criticising what SFC does
CB Fry Posted 22 July, 2014 Share Posted 22 July, 2014 Think he means why did Vlaar go to Villa? Too be fair they're a bigger club than us Well he didn't go there directly after recieving plaudits from all over following a very successful world cup campaign. That's the point. Ron Vlaar, right now, is not actively deciding which club to join. De Vrijs, clearly, is. And he will have more than one option. If someone comes in for a bid for him then Vlaar might have a choice to make. But he is not open to offers in quite the same way that De Vrijs is. And, yes, Villa are bigger than us anyway. DT Posted 22 July, 2014 Share Posted 22 July, 2014 If wages are a problem perhaps we should use the bulk of our cash in raising them across the board, with clauses about relegation of course. We have already got rid of two of our highest earners in Lallana and Lambert, with Lovren to follow and almost certainly Osvaldo. Of those left we have so many kids in the squad that our current wage bill must be tiny compared with say a WH or Newcastle.

(also in progress) It's more the speaking as if everything is fact, blaming the board for every little thing even though there is not a lot they could have done to stop this exodus, and just the general impatience and inability to wait and see what happens. It smacks of immaturity. It's something I've dealt with before, and I think it's just a case of calming down and not letting it get to you in the way it has.
