Goatboy Posted 6 July, 2014 Posted 6 July, 2014 What trend has it highlighted? Mexican substitutes will not take a cut in wages?
Baird of the land Posted 6 July, 2014 Posted 6 July, 2014 What trend has it highlighted? Well if you lose top quality players, will top quality replacement players want to join? I'm not jumping around saying its a certainty but if Hernandez rejects us out of hand it seems a reasonable to raise the issue.
DuncanRG Posted 6 July, 2014 Posted 6 July, 2014 (edited) Big step down from Utd to Southampton. All of one PL place and a few points. Don't need or want a journeyman like that little plank here anyway. He's played for two clubs in his career, so a journeyman he is not. And he has a bucketload of medals from his time at United. Don't pretend we're not a step down. Bear in mind Hernandez rejected us before we'd sold Shaw or Lallana, and long before this Lovren business started. In fact negotiations were probably going on before we sold Lambert. He saw/sees us as a step down regardless of player sales. Edited 6 July, 2014 by DuncanRG
Unbelievable Jeff Posted 6 July, 2014 Posted 6 July, 2014 Mirror reckons we're in for Pablo Armero, the Colombia LB. Quality on FM, but not sure in real life!
Batman Posted 6 July, 2014 Posted 6 July, 2014 Mirror reckons we're in for Pablo Armero, the Colombia LB. Quality on FM, but not sure in real life! pretty gash at west ham....
S-Clarke Posted 6 July, 2014 Posted 6 July, 2014 Mirror reckons we're in for Pablo Armero, the Colombia LB. Quality on FM, but not sure in real life! Failed at WHU all being told.

So a trend of one player not signing, with an eye on Valencia or Inter Milan instead? THAT trend, of course, should have spotted it easy enough.
Olallana Posted 6 July, 2014 Posted 6 July, 2014 "Swansea still waiting for an answer from Clasie"... well that´s one we should have a good chance to compete on...
modern matron Posted 6 July, 2014 Posted 6 July, 2014 "Swansea still waiting for an answer from Clasie"... well that´s one we should have a good chance to compete on... Definitely should try for him - where's the link?
CB Fry Posted 6 July, 2014 Posted 6 July, 2014 My my there's a surprise. 5 of last season's top player have left or are leaving and we wonder why we can't sign good players. I mean what is the bloke thinking not wanting to play alongside Jos,Gazzaniga and all those starlets from the academy. I'm sure Hernandez would have been desperate to sign for Saints if only we still had global superstars like Rickie Lambert and Adam Lallana still at the club.
S-Clarke Posted 6 July, 2014 Posted 6 July, 2014 Definitely should try for him - where's the link? Swansea went in for him back in March. Fee for him is around £10m that Feyernord request.
modern matron Posted 6 July, 2014 Posted 6 July, 2014 I'm sure Hernandez would have been desperate to sign for Saints if only we still had global superstars like Rickie Lambert and Adam Lallana still at the club. Have folks forgotten QPR? Don't buy failing, overpaid so called big names which is Hernandez or Chicoroto or whatever his name is.....please NO!!!
CB Fry Posted 6 July, 2014 Posted 6 July, 2014 Have folks forgotten QPR? Don't buy failing, overpaid so called big names which is Hernandez or Chicoroto or whatever his name is.....please NO!!! Absolutely this. The Eric Djemba Djemba conundrum - anyone who is sh it for Man U will be good for a team lower down the table, otherwise he wouldn't have been at Man U in the first place. Lets sign him up. Nope, he's just sh it.
alpine_saint Posted 6 July, 2014 Posted 6 July, 2014 So, we didnt sign anyone this week, and the impression is we are struggling to close deals. Nightmare season ahead.
modern matron Posted 6 July, 2014 Posted 6 July, 2014 So, we didnt sign anyone this week, and the impression is we are struggling to close deals. Nightmare season ahead. When does the season start? At least wait until the WC finishes........ SO TEDIOUS
TwoPints Posted 6 July, 2014 Posted 6 July, 2014 So, we didnt sign anyone this week, and the impression is we are struggling to close deals. Nightmare season ahead. I can see this... The whole seasons going to be a nightmare because we haven't signed anyone after a week of the transfer window being open. Just trolling?
MarkSFC Posted 6 July, 2014 Posted 6 July, 2014 So, we didnt sign anyone this week, and the impression is we are struggling to close deals. Nightmare season ahead. Silver linings and all that then.....means everyone can enjoy your incessant negativity more regularly. It's a great day for Saintsweb. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I'm not jumping around saying its a certainty but if Hernandez rejects us out of hand it seems a reasonable to raise the issue. Hernandez really isnt top quality, if anything we have dodged a bullet. A serial bench warmer for utd and mexico despite both needing goals ? Doesnt offer much except for poaching ? Would cost a fair amount in fees and wages. The games moved on from poachers in the whole, strikers need to do more, Hernandez isnt that man
Olallana Posted 6 July, 2014 Posted 6 July, 2014 I don't always (understatement) agree with Alpine but the reactions as soon as he speaks his mind here is quite ridiculous and not suited for grownups...
DT Posted 6 July, 2014 Posted 6 July, 2014 Looking forward to seeing what players we are renting for a year this season
ART Posted 6 July, 2014 Posted 6 July, 2014 Alex Crook just tweeted http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/southampton-plot-transfer-pablo-armero-3821393
Saint-Armstrong Posted 6 July, 2014 Posted 6 July, 2014 On the GK front, according to the DM... #1 target - Marshall #2 target - Forster
S-Clarke Posted 6 July, 2014 Posted 6 July, 2014 On the GK front, according to the DM... #1 target - Marshall #2 target - Forster Both very good options, TBH. Marshall was one of the best GK's in the league last year, statistically. TBH he did have to make the most saves! I think we're all crying out for some decent substantial links to players.
Bewildered Posted 6 July, 2014 Posted 6 July, 2014 On the GK front, according to the DM... #1 target - Marshall #2 target - Forster 2 quality targets tbf, hopefully KBSS or Guan will be able to divulge the identity of the GK we have lined up soon.
S-Clarke Posted 6 July, 2014 Posted 6 July, 2014 Here is the link - http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2682598/David-Marshall-leave-Cardiff-City-Southampton-Ronald-Koeman-prepares-8m-bid-goalkeeper.html
ART Posted 6 July, 2014 Posted 6 July, 2014 On the GK front, according to the DM... #1 target - Marshall #2 target - Forster I'd be over the moon if we got Marshall but no way Forster. Ben Foster's far better and more reliable.
SuperSAINT Posted 6 July, 2014 Posted 6 July, 2014 Would be very happy with either of those 2. Guan never did come back with K.Billy's GK name did he?
JakkoUK Posted 6 July, 2014 Posted 6 July, 2014 Wouldn't be that happy with Almero to be honest, thought he was poor for West Ham. And on the GK front, I think I'lld be happier with Forster than Marshall. What's your guys opinions on that front?
S-Clarke Posted 6 July, 2014 Posted 6 July, 2014 Wouldn't be that happy with Almero to be honest, thought he was poor for West Ham. And on the GK front, I think I'lld be happier with Forster than Marshall. What's your guys opinions on that front? Other way round for me - Marshall would be brilliant. Good age, proven at this level to be a tremendous shot stopper. Why do you fancy Forster instead, out of interest?
farawaysaint Posted 6 July, 2014 Posted 6 July, 2014 Wouldn't be that happy with Almero to be honest, thought he was poor for West Ham. And on the GK front, I think I'lld be happier with Forster than Marshall. What's your guys opinions on that front? Don't really care, I want Artur as #1 and a young skillful keeper to challenge him that's my only concern.
charliemiller Posted 6 July, 2014 Posted 6 July, 2014 Mccarthy from reading might be better at the moment
S-Clarke Posted 6 July, 2014 Posted 6 July, 2014 http://www.footballnewsuk.co.uk/news/west-ham-shock-bid-steven-gerrard.html Umm, not sure if this is a parody site or not. I think we should put a bid in for Gerrard, Sterling and Agger and tap their players up.
JakkoUK Posted 6 July, 2014 Posted 6 July, 2014 Other way round for me - Marshall would be brilliant. Good age, proven at this level to be a tremendous shot stopper. Why do you fancy Forster instead, out of interest? Not sure actually, that's why I wanted your guys opinions. Probably just because he's Scottish and Forster's English. and the fact that your probably bound too look a good keeper when your having as many shots at you like Cardiff did. But really my opinions based on nothing now I look at it.
CityRanger Posted 6 July, 2014 Posted 6 July, 2014 Would be very happy with either of those 2. Guan never did come back with K.Billy's GK name did he? I had a look back through K.Billy's posts(I know!) and he mentions a goalkeeper- its quite easy to find. Can't see this guy coming though, he's best in the league imo...
SuperSAINT Posted 6 July, 2014 Posted 6 July, 2014 Well our new GK coach knows Forster very well so that might give him an edge. I assume Cardiff's finances are strong? I can imagine them driving a hard bargain for Marshall.
farawaysaint Posted 6 July, 2014 Posted 6 July, 2014 I had a look back through K.Billy's posts(I know!) and he mentions a goalkeeper- its quite easy to find. Can't see this guy coming though, he's best in the league imo... Asmir Begovic then, can't see it either.
Baird of the land Posted 6 July, 2014 Posted 6 July, 2014 Mccarthy from reading might be better at the moment He's the keeper I'd like us to go for.
Viking Warrior Posted 6 July, 2014 Posted 6 July, 2014 The scousers seem to be buying everyone not only origi but also ,markovic a winger from Serbia That doesn't bide well for Adam who and SRL . They are going to have a huge squad . And reports suggest they will be signing a further 4/5 players not including lovren . There are going to be some very disappointed players up there . I can see Adam who following sadly in Andy Surnams football career . His choice
Badger Posted 6 July, 2014 Posted 6 July, 2014 On the GK front, according to the DM... #1 target - Marshall #2 target - Forster Good news, I'd be happy with either but think Cardiff are outpricing Marshall at £15m. Mccarthy from reading might be better at the moment Would be a good investment, especially with Watson coaching him.
K,Billy's supersound Posted 6 July, 2014 Posted 6 July, 2014 Asmir Begovic then, can't see it either. Let me be clear we are 100% not in for him. He was mearly a name i put forward as someone i would have liked to see us try and sign on very old thread long ago it was an opinion. Was told before the appointment of Dave Watson that the club wanted a strong link between both gk and gk coach. I do try when i can and know its 100% done post names.
Ivan Katalinic's 'tache Posted 6 July, 2014 Posted 6 July, 2014 Let me be clear we are 100% not in for him. Thanks fir the update. Any news on Tadic and Pelle? Likely to to sign this week or Everton now in pole for Tadic?

Bewildered Posted 6 July, 2014 Posted 6 July, 2014 Goalkeepers Dave Watson has worked with include: Ruddy Foster Forster Butland
S-Clarke Posted 6 July, 2014 Posted 6 July, 2014 Goalkeepers Dave Watson has worked with include: Ruddy Foster Forster Butland Butland has been a very long-term target for us - maybe him...? A year as an understudy to Boruc before becoming our first choice?
Ivan Katalinic's 'tache Posted 6 July, 2014 Posted 6 July, 2014 Wasn't Marshall at Norwich for a while? Did that coincide with Watson's time there?
S-Clarke Posted 6 July, 2014 Posted 6 July, 2014 But if we're giving Targett a chance an option like him might be pretty good competition. Tough call either way really. I just think the board are in for a tough time and the atmosphere going to be pretty sour if Saints don't spend a hell of a lot of money. That's why everything will be undisclosed.
S-Clarke Posted 6 July, 2014 Posted 6 July, 2014 Wasn't Marshall at Norwich for a while? Did that coincide with Watson's time there? He was, but left 3 years before Watson got there. Ben Foster was the GK he coached whilst at Birmingham. Could be a link there, and maybe the tabloids have got Forster and Foster mixed.
