Albrighton on a free, that's not too bad, wouldn't mind him on a free at Saints (or wouldn't have before he went to leicester)

Yep, that was a very astute bit of business.

He's not been able to get into a not very good Villa team the last couple of seasons. Fringe player at best.

He's not awful, but midfield isn't exactly a priority, and he is hardly a step up from what we have there I feel.

Wouldn't read too much into the waffle a banana republic owner spouts to his own local media.

Their signings to date have been incredibly low-key: Ben Hamer (Charlton keeper), Jack Barmby (Nicky B's son and united reserve striker), Matthew Upson and Marc Albrighton -all on frees.

They've been linked with Gareth Barry, Frazier Campbell, Ross McCormack and Ulloa from Brighton.

Good chance Nugent is on his way out.

It doesnt really matter massively what cash and ambition a club has coming us, as what happened to us, cardiff and QPR you can attempt to splash cash but reality says you are a relegation favourite and as such you are likely only to get up amd comings, end of careers or money grabbers.

If Leicster stay up theyll have a chance to add more stability (as we did) but they need to stay up first. It doesnt matter how good they are in the champ there is a HUGE difference between PL and NPC

Talking of players available on a free, I don't know why we don't try and snap up Hangelaand whilst he's available.

He was woeful towards the end at Fulham and considering we like to build from the back I dont think he would be anywhere near what I wanted.

Free wise Id take punts on Sinclair, perhaps Rodwell if we can accomodate him (which will only be if Cork leaves)

Is he? He was playing in a **** team so a bit harsh to say he's past best. How many times have we seen players who've kickstarted their careers after a move?

Yep, he really is. Also lost his place towards the end of the season. Heitinga, Burn & Amorebieta were preferred in a back 5 (well, centrally at least). He was never quick to start, but can now barely move. And as Smirking says, he is shocking on the ball.

Same goes for Stekelenburg who's name I keep seeing mentioned. Nope. Useless, also lost his place to Stockdale.

Yeah, bad team, but he was part of that bad team. A bad team that let in a stupid amount of goals all season.

No thanks.

Are either of them frees?

Hard to judge with Sinclair, clearly has talent, but is so sporadic. Also, did the square root of nothing at WBA last season. Granted, they weren't great for a lot of the season, but still.

Rodwell started well, but never properly progressed at Everton. I think in the end their fans weren't that upset about him leaving. At the right price he could do a job, but I'm not convinced he is a step up from anything else we have in the same position, which is also probably the position that least requires any attention at the moment.

He is about 102 so prob a bit late to think about kickstarting his career

He has been a decent player in past but I just dont think he is a reasonable option.

For a CB, Alderweireld, caulker or C Davies. Obviously other foreign options too

I didnt really explain what I meant about Rodwell really, my point was we dont need him, he has talent and I think we can get it out of him, but yes, we have arguably better players (though I think if he finds a goid move he could potentially end up a v good DM)

As for Sinclair Id take a punt on him if we can half his wages, he wasnt even starting at WBA so theirs obviously an issue there somewhere (when he wasnt injured) get him playing like he was at Swansea and he could be a decent signing

If we are talking about a replacement for AL though, fermino is a definate shout, Tello or Affellay potentially but Id love to see young Hughes here who I think is basically lallana Mk II from what Ive seen.

I'm not sure Hernandez would want to come here, but if he did I could his runs in-behind bringing the best out of Gaston.

Hernandez doesn't have much pace, so it's not really in behind most of the time. Though I suppose it's easy to see it that way when United dominate the ball, aren't pressed back and only bring him on for 20 minutes at the end when they need a goal.

Not sure he would suit being the main (and lone) striker here, and he certainly won't come here to play the same role as he does now at United.

It does look like the standard hoovering of old journeymen. Promoted clubs are always linked with players like that, though.

Never been overly enthusiastic about Hernandez TBH. Apart from the fact he pretty obviously wouldnt suit the system to anyone who understands the way we play, he just seems very overpriced and overpaid for his level of ability

If Koeman does become manager then I wouldn't be surprised to see Aron Johannsson turn up at SFC sometime.

Good goal scorer. Could do a lot worse.

David Nugent? While living in Leicester and seeing a few games, it seemed like the fans adored him. He also bagged 20 goals last season. Is there any reason in particular why he would be on his way out?

He is. But nuge is nuge and will always rub people up the wrong way. My understanding is that he is out of contract and wants a longer contract than Leicester is so far willing to give.

I don't disagree with any of that mate. It's true, English players are over-valued and over-hyped. This is probably the main reason why so few move abroad. There is rarely any value in a British player to a foreign club.

A GB team would be good I think. I don't really get why we are a Britain as a nation and England in sports.

Though, that said, without any intentional arrogance. The team would most likley be England, with a few Welsh players (Ramsey, Bale). Can't off the top of my head think of too many others that would be in the first XI.

No room for our own Steven Davis In GB team?

Typical. Might as well post the obligatory England goal.

Could not agree more re: Hughes. Have said several times I'd love us to sign him. Even if it's expensive. The boy is a serious talent.

I do also agree with Rodwell, could come good wit the right move, but it's an expensive gamble (obvious hypocrisy in relation to above) and the boy is injury prone. Shame, as he looked a potential star at one point. My Everton mate was convinced he was going to be their Gerrard.

As I said above, I'm not overly fussed on him. Had talent, but never really kicked on as was hoped at Everton, the. Took a (silly) big money move and his career has completely stalled. Again, pretty injury prone too.

Maybe, the right move could kick start his career, but I'm not advocating that be with Saints.

Hmmmm, hadn't considered him to be honest.

Who do you drop for Davis, in an England midfield already bolstered with Bale and Ramsey?

Jack Wilshire/ Steven Gerrard/ Adam Lallana........:p

The word on the street in Leicester is that their Thai owners are beginning to struggle because of the political unrest in their homeland at the moment, seems that they are big in the tourist industry and business has fallen flat on it's arse !

I guess that funds could be fairly sparse for them so hopefully they can't strengthen too much !!

From the SSN Transfer Centre:

Udinese striker Luis Muriel has spoken to El Tiempo about his future:

I want to leave Udinese - a transfer to a new club could help me a lot. Several offers have arrived for me and I hope that something will materialise. Fiorentina and Roma are the clubs that are closer to me at this time.

You're terrible, Muriel.

Muriel's Wedding?

Got ****ed off watching that in a cinema in Manchester. Good evening it was.

I am aware that we are very close to losing a deal for a player due to our delay in confirming the deal.

No idea who he is but he isn't playing in the WC, Valencia, Torino and Inter are interested.

p.s Jay Rod in good spirits and progressing well.

Osvaldo would be my guess.

Unless you mean an incoming transfer*

The Daily Mirror linked Javier Hernandez to us, Inter and Valencia.

If it is a part-exchange for Shaw, as reported, could we be playing for time so that we don't announce the sale before the new manager?

EDIT: Sorry, misread the bit about the World Cup. Hernandez is, of course, there with Mexico. That rules him out then

I can't see that being anything other than agent talk. Even if Schneiderlin and Wanyama were to leave (unlikely) we wouldn't have any business with a 31-year-old lower midtable CM.

Sidwell and Stekelenburg are the only Fulham players I think are worth a shout.

Not a fan of Sidwell myself. Fulham were weak as **** in the middle and he was right there well off the pace struggling to have any impact on games. Not for me.
