Vela is playing at the kind of level you'd hope Chamberlain will when he's 25, but Sociedad have nothing like Arsenal's money. Buying from Premier League rivals, especially big clubs, is massively expensive and it would be a ludicrous backwards step for Alex. Vela wouldn't be easy at all but there's not a hope in hell of us signing Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain back.

Chamberlain also has a 25% sell on clause, so we'd essentially get 25% off. Him and Vela would both cost us between 15 and 20 mill imo. There's absolutely no way it would be a bigger step back for Chamberlain then Vela, we're the future of English football and would jump start his career both at club and international level. Vela's doing fine where he is, Chamberlain isn't and clearly still has a soft spot for the club.

Posted

He's in and around England's first XI, playing in the Champions League and making a case to start centrally in the league's most competitive midfield. Without injuries he'd have made even more progress.

If he has two injury-free seasons and still can't get into the Arsenal side regularly then he might consider a move. Even then, coming back to Southampton would be admitting defeat.

Posted

That would be bizarre, £3.3m is no money at all. They would have brought him back by now, methinks.

Yes, but it is the figure Sociedad paid for him when they bought him from Arsenal so could be some sort of agreement with a buy back clause like that to see if he evolved.

Arsenal might have clauses like that, as is said in the case of Fabregas if it´s true.

Posted
He's spoken very openly (quite disrespectfully, in fact) about his desire to move to a Champions League club. If nobody at that level goes in for him (of the English clubs I can only imagine Arsenal being interested) we *might* be able to convince him that we're much closer to achieving that than Swansea. It would be expensive though. Chances are he'll spend another year with them and hope he can impress enough to secure a bigger move.

He'd be an absolutely quality signing but he's openly admitted to using Swansea as a stepping stone and would doubtless do the same with us if he keeps playing well.

A taffy in the alehouse I went in after the game was moaning like **** about him and Mitchu. Reckons their big time charlies and their attitude has caused a lot of problems at the club.

Last weeks rumour on here previously. The Mirror are just catching up.

Nixon has moved the story on from the Mail's one liner.

Daily Mail:

'Timothee Kolodziejczak, 22, regarded as the best left back in France, is a target for the Saints.

The Nice defender is valued at £7m.'

Posted
No doubt the Davide Astori rumours will start again soon

I wonder if Cagliari would take Osvaldo in a swap?

If its CB's previously linked then don't forget the Senegalese bloke at Anderlecht, Koyoute or similar.

Posted

This is just an opinion, but Hakan Çalhanoğlu who currently plays for Hamburger SV in Germany.

A striker/Wide player with fantastic dribbling and dead ball techniques. He's fairly quick too - would certainly help out as we look a bit lightweight up front and depending how JRod's rehabilitation goes.

May be available relatively cheaply as his club look to be getting relegated.

I'd like to see us try and get Tom Huddlestone in the close season to add other options in midfield. Any thoughts, chaps/chapesses?

No, he is too pedestrian for our style of play.

Why do we need other options in midfield exactly?

Reed, JWP, Cork, Davis, Morgan, Wanyama

Don't think Morgan will go, and if he did, we've still got more than enough in CM. Huddlestone wouldn't improve us, would just add another pace-less player to our midfield, which is kind of the last thing we need.

If there are 2 area's on the pitch that it's hard for us to really improve on, you'd have to say that it's RB and CM - Those areas are covered so well squad wise. Would be a waste of time buying another CM imo.

Not Marshall as GK either?

I wouldn't mind Ben Arfa if I'm honest, if he can find that form he showed 2 years ago that is- and the other question is- would he be able to perform the role Davis does?

Im always nervous about GKs at clubs that get relegated - they have more shots per game to save. So always come out looking better than they really are.

Similar to Júlio César (QPR) and Ali Al-Habsi (WIGAN) last season and Paul Robinson (BLACKBURN) the year before

No thanks. Would not work anywhere near hard enough to be in our system. Poor attitude, far too inconsistent, totally different player to Davis too.

Would love us to sign Begovic. Don't care that he used to play down the road.

Won't happen though. Stoke don't need to sell so would put a huge price on him and if he were available, there would be a long list of clubs that want him.

Posted

I still don't think we'll be buying from any other PL teams, it just doesn't seem to be what we do, especially with cheaper alternatives available abroad.

Good shout. If Morgan goes to Arsenal, then I think he'd be good as he is strong, quite skillful and knows where the goal is.If Morgan stays, probably not.

Phew. Don't title it 'Kolo' - I thought we were going after Kolo Toure! :(

I'd love it if we signed Kolo Touré purely so we could sing the Kolo/Yaya Toure song, the best football song of all time.

the next 6 weeks will tell us how a big a loss NC was. I believe if he had stayed only LS would have been allowed to go as the fee would be enough to help rebuild. If we do lose the number of players listed here it would tell us KL was not as ambitious as Marcus. i hope Im wrong but the message from the new bloke saying about our finances being not good spelt danger to me

And does it say exactly why Wanyama is hoping to leave us for West Ham ?

Osvaldo did say he was hopiing to stay at the Juve but that he wasn't sure how that was going to turn out because his time there hasn't gone all that well.

When Markus purchased the club 5 years ago Saints were 68th in England, when Katharina became owner they were 64th, today they are 8th. Most of the progression and investment has come under the ownership of Katharina in the last 4 years. The plans for Staplewood training ground for example significantly increased in scope after Markus' died.

Oh my word. Why would wanyama want to leave for west ham? Why would anyone buy j rod this summer rather than wait until January to check he's fit, recovered, and returned to being the player he was before his injury. And why would saints sell about 90 millions worth of talent in one window? We don't need that level of money.

Oh, and osvaldo may well want to move to juve full time, but I doubt they're as keen somehow.

Obviously the Sun make up most things, but on a serious note, if 4 or 5 first team players were to leave, how many new players will we need to sign? Strength in depth is an issue as it is
