Hatch Posted 17 March, 2014 Posted 17 March, 2014 seems vodafone requires me to remortgage my house to pay the charges for calls and data if I travel to the USA for work. Anyone know of a better alternative ? or just buy a pay as you go once you get out there.
matthewb Posted 19 March, 2014 Posted 19 March, 2014 Check out Three as they have a "Feel at Home" deal which covers the USA. I think you can use your contract mins/texts/data as you would at home and when/if they run out what you are charged is lower than the usual roaming rates! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Anyone know of a better alternative ? or just buy a pay as you go once you get out there. I travel to the US for work and have vodafone so use this. Its still not cheap but cheaper than their hideous usual roaming rates. The data cost is reasonable for emails but still mounts up if you use the web a lot. I got stung for £800 for data during a five day trip to Singapore last year. personal: http://www.vodafone.co.uk/shop/pay-monthly/travelling-abroad/ business: http://www.vodafone.co.uk/business/shop/phones-and-plans/working-abroad/index.htm Edited 20 March, 2014 by buctootim
LVSaint Posted 20 March, 2014 Posted 20 March, 2014 T-Mobile have eliminated international data roaming for US subscribers - not sure if that is the same with UK plans.
TwoPints Posted 25 March, 2014 Posted 25 March, 2014 We use a Trakphone when we go to the US. You can pick them up anywhere (eg Walmart). They cost from about $20 for a basic one and you just buy top up cards (similar to payg). We've found it much cheaper than using the UK mobiles, especially if you're calling others in the US but I think you can get international call packages cheap too. Hatch Posted 7 May, 2014 Author Posted 7 May, 2014 used a SIM card from a company called Telaway in the end. It worked well.
