Daft Kerplunk Posted 17 March, 2014 Share Posted 17 March, 2014 Looking at it objectively, and considering we are actually not that far from being a very good top side, and closer than the likes of Man Utd, especially considering our young players are a long way from their peak and may defy media logic and want to do something special here, where should we strengthen in the summer given below players in the squad? GK - Boruc, Davies, Gazzaniga (need another new experienced keeper ideally) RB - Clyne and Chambers (covered) LB - Shaw and Targett (covered) CB - Lovren, Fonte, Yoshida and Hooiveld (need another top class CB) DM - Schneiderlin, Cork, Wanyama and JWP (covered) AM - Lallana, Ramirez, Davis, Isgrove, Reed (covered) F - Rodriguez, Lambert, Guly, Gallagher (the key area to strengthen, but the same for every team) Can't think there would be disagreement over needing to strengthen GK, CB and CF. I can only see Ramirez and Wanyama getting better as they're still really quite young. I'd like to see an experienced head in there someone, someone who has won a decent championship (preferably premier league) to help guide the young players to success, a Cantona-like figure but who could that be? Hopefully the scouts are out there and they can be found.

And atleast two center forwards. could also see another attacking midfielder being brought in along side lallana and gaston So five possibly seven new additions with a budget or 30-40 million or 50-60 million if shaw is sold. tajjuk Posted 17 March, 2014 Share Posted 17 March, 2014 Providing we don't loose anyone then Another centre-back, with the aim of improving on Fonte. (Lovren Mk II) An option out wide who has pace, I did think when Chamberlain was relegated to the bench for Arsenal behind their many attacking mids we might be in with a chance at a loan for him. A long term replacement for Lambert, ideal would be Lukaku, but unrealistic, but someone in that mould. And probably a back up keeper who can actually challenge Boruc. (David Marshall) IF we got in those 3/4 players that were on Lovrens level we would be laughing and I think we would be in a position to challenge the top 6, although you are looking at probably a £40 million outlay. Not that we wouldn't be able to do that with all the Premiership money coming in. If we manage to get sell Osvaldo for £15 million then that will fund his replacement. Midfield we are very strong with Morgan, Wanyama, Cork, JWP, and Davis. (plus they can all improve). Our biggest challenge though is going to be hanging on to our players (and manager). ericb Posted 17 March, 2014 Share Posted 17 March, 2014 Shawcroft, Ince, Ings. Get those three and we're doing ok.
Chewy Posted 17 March, 2014 Share Posted 17 March, 2014 We are 5 players short of a top 4 side, but hey, who isn't? United are for sure! We need a keeper, a centre back, a centre forward, a forward (to play in the 3 behind the centre forward, preferably a pacy wide option) and a left back. We won't get all of these this summer, and could possibly go backwards in one or two areas (shaw, lallana) but essentially that's where we need to focus on improving the squad. positivepete Posted 17 March, 2014 Share Posted 17 March, 2014 Shawcroft, Ince, Ings. Get those three and we're doing ok. I seriously doubt that these will get us to the next level as the OP suggests, or do you mean back to the championship?
Dalek2003 Posted 17 March, 2014 Share Posted 17 March, 2014 I've said it befroe, if Norwich go down how about Ruddy for keeper ?
aintforever Posted 17 March, 2014 Share Posted 17 March, 2014 I would replace Davies, Hooveld and Guly with 3 top players. Maybe get quality cover for Shaw unless Targett is ready.
SaintBobby Posted 17 March, 2014 Share Posted 17 March, 2014 High priority: Centre-back to do same for Fonte; striker to replace Osvaldo. Nice to have but not as crucial: Pacey winger; cover (or replacement) for Shaw; goalkeeper to challenge Boruc in starting line-up. Some (not very original) suggestions: Steven Caulker, Lukaku (in my dreams), Hernandez, Ings, Rhodes, Zaha, Redmond. No real strong feeling on keeper. CHAPEL END CHARLIE Posted 17 March, 2014 Share Posted 17 March, 2014 I seriously doubt that these will get us to the next level as the OP suggests, or do you mean back to the championship? I disagree. Ryan Shawcross and Dejan Lovren would make a formidable partnership at any level.

Bucks Saint Posted 18 March, 2014 Share Posted 18 March, 2014 I've said it befroe, if Norwich go down how about Ruddy for keeper ? Was thinking much the same on Saturday, the only player they have that we might want, could be a good shout
Wiggles31 Posted 18 March, 2014 Share Posted 18 March, 2014 New striker, CB, goalkeeper to challenge Boruc, a pacey winger/AM. An upgrade on Davis would be great too. Will we get all that, higy unlikely. Striker is the most important one.
Saint_Tony Posted 18 March, 2014 Share Posted 18 March, 2014 There are so few strikers in the world who are capable of scoring 25 goals in a Premier league season. We moan about J Rod and Lambert, but their goal returns are both respectable already, and with plenty of games left to play. We certainly need a first choice centre back and left back to replace Shaw. Shawcross would be a decent shout, and available for less than 10m I would think. Decent left backs are very hard to come by though. We really need at least one striker, possibly 2. I'd take a gamble on Ings, who I think would come to us if the price is right despite Burnley's inevitable promotion. Griezmann at Sociedad could be a possibility, dependant on Sociedad qualifying for the CL. He can also play out wide, I imagine the transfer fee would be around the £20 million mark. Boruc also needs competition. I've been very impressed with Marshall at Cardiff and would certainly like him here to compete for the no1 spot. Schmeichel will probably be in high demand and for an overpriced transfer fee so maybe not realistic. If we wanted another wide player then Redmond of Nathan Dyer could do a job.So you're looking at around 50-60 million spend for 5-6 players. Hopefully a similar spend to last year. It shouldn't be unrealistic to expect that as we should receive that amount for Osvaldo and Shaw. I'd expect Guly and Hooiveld to depart as well, maybe Lallana. So if anything we might see even more players come in as we don't have a massive squad
Smirking_Saint Posted 18 March, 2014 Share Posted 18 March, 2014 IMO we need a GK, CB and St as priority so long as we do not lose anyone over the summer. GK - schmeical or Begovic, marshall is also an option CB - shawcross, caulker St - Bony, Welbeck Thats just from the PL From lower leagues I wouldnt mind a punt on Maguirre or Ings but they certainly arent good enough to make us top 6 quality

We need a keeper, a left back, a striker and an AM, maybe even a CB, doubt if any of them will be very well known to any of us. Expect a bit of germanic influx myself, don't know why Fancy us to try for Ramos from Berlin though, totally wasted on them. Super_Saint Posted 18 March, 2014 Share Posted 18 March, 2014 What about Ogbonna? He doesn't appear to fit into Conte's plans at Juventus. Part of an Osvaldo deal maybe?
K,Billy's supersound Posted 18 March, 2014 Share Posted 18 March, 2014 i would like Stokes Begovic not sure if his contract is up at the end of this season? Fulhams Brede Hangeland could be a solid cheap option if they go down but hope for another foreign under priced gem like Lovern. If Norwich go down i do like Nathan Redmond think with coaching he could really turn out to be a good pacy attacking wide option alongside Rodriguez. Not really needed i know but if they go down Wba's Youssouf Mulumbu is a player i really really rate. I think he is vastly underated a solid defensive midfielder who can really pass the ball well. i believe he is better than Cork and Wanyama in this respect and alongside Schneiderlin could be awesome. Regards striker can't see us buying anyone already playing in the premireship as asking price would be to high, so hope our scouts uncover someone and world cup or have already got somebody in mind. Wouldn't mind taking Saido Berahino if we could get him cheap as a player to work on. Can't see us buying home based players though think it will be foreign imports due to the inflated english market.
Bermuda Saint Posted 20 March, 2014 Share Posted 20 March, 2014 new rumour. Gerard Deulofeu (20) is coming to SFC in summer transfer for 7mill. source - me why - because his is one of the best young attacking midfielders, if we could buy him outright from Barcelona, I think he would be perfect. Like what I see when he plays for Everton. I think our coaching and style of play would be something he is suited to. I wonder how much it would cost to get him in a saints shirt? This would be the young, exciting attacking midfielder type of prospect I hope we are looking for. We need a Big money gamble on a striker, a cb and keep the team we have and we will be pushing higher next year. This will be a critical transfer summer for MP, he has had a chance to sum up all of his squad and will now need to add a few critical pieces to keep us moving forward. Will he go to his Spanish bag of trick (yes) or will he stick with the PL?
Saint Garrett Posted 20 March, 2014 Share Posted 20 March, 2014 Would be tempted to go in for Hughes at Derby and possibly Paterson from Forest. GK; CB; AM; ST we could all improve on, but i'd take just not losing anyone this summer.
derry Posted 20 March, 2014 Share Posted 20 March, 2014 I have the answer, it's obvious. Sign Shaw and Gallagher from Chelsea, Lovren, Wanyama and Lallana from Man Utd, Schneiderlin and Chambers from Arsenal. Then add Rodriguez from Liverpool and Lambert from West Ham and we have the makings of a cracking squad. I see from the papers they are all available!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
