Spurs vs Saints build up

We've had plenty of players recover from knocks before. Pochettino makes a clear difference between saying a player is doubtful and whether a player has a knock and needs to be assessed. More often than not players who have had knocks have been fine to play - there has been the odd exception but by and large I'm expecting Schneiderlin to be fit.

Surely Davis will drop back into a more defensive role if MS, VW and JC are all out?

Can't see JWP and Reed put into central mid away from home

he might well do that but as he's not very good at it it will be pointless anyway. We'd probably change the whole system if we had to start without any of our regular DMs. I'd hope that Mauricio would have the sense to play José and Maya at the back and move Dejan forward, he's not bad at it, or at least he wasn't at Lyon.

Know anywhere I can see this not on saints player?

They usually post a short 'teaser' clip on YouTube but not the whole thing.

There's also lots of joking between MP and the press about David Salas (the interpreter) being transferred to West Brom now that his time at Southampton is "approaching the finish"...

(which obviously means either MP is leaving too or that he'll conduct the press conferences in English in future.... ;) )

Davis and JWP in CM would be worrying. Remember Everton away last season where they just walked through at will?

Hopefully Schneiderlin makes it. Will have a big influence on the result IMO - he does so much relatively unoticed defensive work whereas Davis and JWP are tidy players but not defensive minded despite the areas they ocassionally play in.

Hip flexor injury, that's not an easy or rapid thing to cure. Depends if it's just a blow on it or a strain. Don't expect to see him on Sunday myself.

Dont really understand or agree when people think our defence will give them planty because of dodgy defending.

The goals against Norwich has nothing to do with defending really, just poor choices from two players. Before that a clean sheet against Palace.

Granted we let Liverpool score three but that was more down to clinical finishing rather than that they produced a lot of chances due to bad defending from our side imo.

West Ham before that were poor defending yes but we all know the difference with or without Lovren in the lineup...

Mauricio Pochettino: “This is a very good chance to bring in young players and give them the experience of facing a big team.” #saintsfc

Hint that Reed will be involved I think.

Can't see him changing the system, but it'll be where abouts he would start Davis, JWP and Reed (if he does). Also depends on Gaston being fit who seems to be a bit of a doubt too

(4-2-3-1)

Boruc

Clyne Fonte Lovren Shaw

Davis Reed

JWP Lallana Rodriguez

Lambert

I would be keen to see Reed given a chance.

Can't say he's put a foot wrong in his brief cameos so a place in the starting XI is probably the next stage of his development. The injury crisis and our mid table security could give us a good chance to give more game time to those pushing for a place in the first team to stake a claim for next season.

So, we're possibly looking at something like this then?

Boruc

Chambers - Fonte - Lovren - Shaw

Reed - JWP

Davis - Lallana - JRod

Lambert

Subs: Gazza, Clyne, Yoshida, Hooiveld, Sinclair, McQueen, Gallagher

(bound to be at least one available senior player I've forgotten about though)

Will be Clyne.

Boruc; Clyne Fonte Lovren Shaw; Reed JWP; Davis Lallana Rodriguez; Lambert

I sincerely hope not, we would get taken apart. Our CMs defend quite well, they are all fairly big blokes who win a few aerial duels, probably about half of them at least, if we go to WHL with 2 diminutive CMs like that they will destroy us because their MF is chunky.

Yep, I'd have Chambers or Lovren in at defensive midfielder over Reed if it comes down to that.

I can see why you think that but to play Chambers out of position at a game like Spurs would not be sensible at all imo.

Chambers was a MF before we turned him into a RB right ? We have a good player at Rb already, if MS VW and JC are out then we need a realistic option in their stead, Lovren or Chambers are the obvious solutions. What we do not want to do, as DM would say, is go to WHL with a pair of 5ft 7" rookie DMs. JWP has been absolutely atrocious when he's played there this season, to complement him with Reed is a recipe for disaster. By all means give Reed his chance but at least put him with someone who can tackle and has the height to help out in the air at the back.

So why not stick Maya in there? Would MUCH prefer to keep Lovren alongside Fonte with Adebayor to cope with and with Spurs having pace down the wings we need Clyne & Shaw out wide. Having Maya in could almost allow Clyne & Shaw to play more as wing backs and keep the Spuds wide men deeper. We've all moaned at times about plan B's, we've had opposition teams pressing US much more of late so no reason why MP wouldn't try a small tinkering with our shape.

But do think Reed deserves a chance now
