Spurs vs Saints build up

Ridiculously, if Spurs lose tomorrow and we win this we will find ourselves again considering the possibility of European qualification as we would then be only 5 points behind them and thus with the chance of competing for sixth place behind Everton in fifth. For that reason I suspect we will do no more than draw this game as Poch has made it clear he doesn't want to play in the Europa League. Assuming, of course, that Poch does want to be with us still next season!

Pretty much like last time we met them then.....

But we had loads of injuries and the calamity keeper in goal then, during his run of conceding 7 goals from 10 shots at goal in three games, you'd like to think we won't concede from every shot on target this time.

I think we did today? Norwich had 2 shots on target... 2 goals

Now i've got my ticket in the post for this one.

The home game v Spurs was my first this season....and had the pleasure of Fox , Jos and Gazzingas company. All three in the starting line-up ffs. Even with those in the team we gave them a good match BUT it was not a relaxing enjoyable match.

This time i'm hoping for a great day out and at least some better defending. Then Lovren goes and gets injured. Tell me it's not serious.

Bit concerning Lovren hasn't said anything on his Twitter account. Usually pretty candid about injuries.

Spurs were toothless in attack today. Had all of the ball but from 17 shots in total they only managed 2 on target. If we defend well then I'm confident we can get a result here. They also have a trip to Portugal to contend with, even if they are all but out they still have to do the travelling....etc. Won't get back until the early hours of Friday morning, then have to play a high energy team like ourselves.

We owe them one after handing them 3 points at SMS this season and last season's game at WHL which we never deserved to lose. Can't stand Spurs or Sherwood so a win in this one would be very enjoyable. Prediction: Spurs 0-1 Saints.

Yes, but any optimism really ran out on reading that coming after yesterday.

So... Spurs did indeed lose! As I said, then, a win against them could well put us in contention for sixth place behind Everton (who have got to be favourites for fifth now), especially following Man Utd's defeat to Liverpool. Let's not forget too that Man Utd have a tricky fixture at home to Man City to look forward to a week on Tuesday. Not that I'm saying we would be successful in this, but it could, amazingly, put us right back in the mix!

If we really did want to qualify for Europa League then the chance could be there! However, having seen both the woeful performances against Sunderland in the cups and in the light of Pochettino's derogatory comments about the Europa League, it seems clear to me that the highest he thinks we should be aiming for is seventh (now that it is clear that at least one of the FA Cup finalists will not be a top six team). With that in mind, I am half expecting another woeful performance in this match. Lose this and we can be fairly confident of finishing no higher than seventh and Poch will be happy.

Of course, if Poch has made up his mind that he won't be here next season or if Krueger or Liebherr have managed to convince him that getting European experience (perhaps for our younger development players?) might be worthwhile, then maybe we will make an effort.. It will be interesting to see.

Pathetic really. Can't remember the last time we didn't sell out a London away.

In a strange way it's good, help keep prices down, but it conversely, it will just encourage us to take the smaller allocation if we're not 100% certain of selling out.

What will happen when they sing our song at the same time that we sing our song? Infuriates me SOOOO much that they have so little imagination that not content with taking Bale, Richards, Hoddle, Redknapp etc they have to take that too. I hope we smash them, the north London yobbos. And, breathe.

Both the last 2 trips to Chelsea..

Any idea how close we are to selling out for Spurs? We can't be all that far off selling the 3,000.

We sold out at Chelsea this year mate, we were in the top 3 at the time though.

Not sure what allocation we've taken for spurs this time with it being a sunday lunchtime game on sky, plus there are rail engineering works on the way up can see that putting people off and we have just had a run of Saturday 3pm away games at Fulham, West Ham and Palace. I think lower tier is sold out for Spurs already and you'd have thought a fair few would fancy a trip to see us win at White Hart Lane.

For those travelling by train expect Waterloo to be busy with a few thousand Gosport fans going to Wembley for the FA Trophy final v Cambridge United, bound to be a few skates there with them.

For those driving to the game there used to be some free parking available on industrial estates near North Middlesex hospital.

Hope weve got a strong side out for this, think we'll miss Cork in midfield but if spurs give it a good go at Benfica Thursday night that will work in our favour.

Will be tight and could go either way IMO depending on one mistake or one piece of brilliance, be it individual or team. Both sides can be very capable, but both can be very frustrating at times. Wouldn't like to call it to be honest.

We don't have much to play for.

Saints are 6 points off a Europa League place, Spurs are 7 points off a Champions League place.

A Saints win puts us 5 points behind Spurs. Saints are 3 points from Man Utd in 7th and 6 from Everton in 6th with both of them still to come to St Mary's, plus we have players playing for World Cup selection.

Thought they looked short on ideas in the final third yesterday. Defence isn't great at all, certainly not the back 4, very much helped by a world class goalkeeper. Bookies have them as odds against so a win for us certainly isn't out of the question. I'd be happy with a point despite all the talk again of a europa place. To achieve that, we need to start beating the likes of Spurs, Everton and Newcastle, something we have so far failed to do this season.

Traditional wisdom (parroted several times already, I might add) is that the players are already on their holidays.

This wisdom is to be applied to any club in our situation (comfortably mid/top table and shouldn't get above themselves).

A win would certainly put the cat amongst the pigeons and make the end of season run in a lot more interesting that I'd have dared imagine.

Can't really see it though, they will be smarting after yesterday and we're going to feel the backlash.

Whenever they play any other team, their players can believe that their fans are singing it to encourage them. But when they play us, it is a golden opportunity for us to sing it simultaneously and our players will believe that it is sung to "spur" them on.

I noticed the commentator on the Spurs v Arsenal match mentioned it as Spurs' song when it was chanted. I wonder whether he would think that we had stolen it if he heard it sung by us at St Mary's? Cretin.

The title and words include our club's well recognised nickname, so obviously it is our song.

One of Everton's games in hand is away at Newcastle and they also have to come to St Mary's. Its an outside chance of catching them, but we do still have enough of a chance of catching Man Utd and Everton to mean we have something to play for. Which is the point I was making to adriansfc, and thats without even touching on a number of our players with the World Cup to focus their minds on good performances in the last 8 games.

The best we could really hope for is 7th and one of the 6 clubs qualified getting banned from European competition under the UEFA FFP rules, Liverpool are on thin ice already but I guess they'll get round it somehow. On their last year's figures normally they'd be disqualified for next season.

Spurs are a side id like to beat. Coyr

Now here I am agreeing 100% with you, Glasgow.

In a year or two, Man.U will be reduced to an average Prem.side and beating them may become routine, but I REALLY love beating Spurs.

It's not the club I despise, but the arrogance of some of their fans (who haven't seen the team win a major trophy in 20 years), but who think they are ..SO GREAT.

I must admit, given who we have to play I think it's an ideal run of games to prove our credentials... if we can get a few good results and get amongst them, even if not above them, then that would be a good springboard for players and fans alike, to go into next season with more optimism. It may also help attract transfer targets if they think they can be one of the pieces of the jigsaw that help us in our quest for European football.
