Rodriguez did well, both in the central role and when he moved deeper in the second half.

Lambert was really good when he came on. I wish we used him off the bench more often as he can make a greater impact that way.

Clyne was excellent too. There's no way Walker or Johnson are better than him. Shame Roy has ignored him.

It was almost too easy in the first quarter of an hour and we coasted through the rest of the first half to be honest. Shaw was a little sloppy with the ball going forwards (excellent in the second half though) and we didn't get the ball to Adam or Gaston in enough dangerous positions.

Boruc looked like he had a hangover or something but thankfully Norwich were so poor it didn't matter.

Stupid end to a game that should have been over after 15 mins. Norwich were there for the taking from the 1st minute, they were complete and utter trash. They've got no chance of staying up based on that.

Frustrated we didn't really do anything after the first 15 mins, but the 2nd half we finished them off - but decided we'd give them a bit of a chance for some reason. 2 moments of complete madness, and all of their opportunities came through us overplaying.

The 2 full backs were supurb today I thought, Clyne back to his best. Lallana had a bit of a quiet one, didn't really influence much during the time he was on. Morgan ran the show in midfield and frustratingly, as per usual, Gaston failed to impress himself upon the game against pretty gash opponents it has to be said.

A good performance though, but the score line flatters Norwich by a long way.

Gaston made the first goal with fab pass and I think second!

Agreed. We actually were awful in the 1st half. Norwich worst team at St Marys, even worse than Fulham. Was Boruc on drugs? Seemed intent on getting Norwich back in it. In the end the score was decent but it covers up one of our poorest displays . Motm Steve Davis

had a nice smoke with us lot last nite,

This. Spot on. Jay was unreal today. And that effort that hit the bar would have been a wonder goal

But he wasn't until he moved out wide second half.. 1st half he was lost and should not be asked to play a lone striker role.

Not sure where he gets his energy from though, covers so much ground for the team.

The last ten minutes were value for money.

Norwich awful. I rate Snodgrass, but he was rubbish.

J Rod was awesome. Seemed odd to me that we were getting pressed in our own third - nearly made a cock up a few times in the first half.

Just back, quick thoughts.

- Norwich were as bad a team as I've seen at St Mary's, and surprisingly dirty.

- We were very poor until Lambert came on. J-Rod looked good throughout but Lallana was essentially kicked out of the game.

- Ramirez looked alright but we were never fluent enough to get him involved. Body language when subbed was terrible.

- We had a clear plan to use JWP in a kind of deep lying Busquets role but in terms of execution it was a disaster, partly down to JWP but largely because he was being fed balls in impossible situations. Loads of potential but still lots to learn.

- MoPo did not look impressed.

Bottom line is Norwich were awful, and we took the opportunity to play at 75% and almost ended up paying the price. Might have been tactical but couldn't help feel that stone of our England players had their minds on Brazil (J-Rod and Rickie excepted). Great to see Gallagher get a goal at the end.

Bizarre game, not as good as the scoreline suggests. We'd threatened to give away a couple of goals earlier in the game but that minute or two when they scored twice was pretty surreal! Lambert made a big difference when he came on, not convinced by Rodriguez playing centrally, we just kept hoofing towards him hoping he'd get in behind. Norwich are awful. Doesn't say much for the 'best league in the world' that there are 5 teams below them at the moment!

Ramirez... Body language when subbed was terrible.

I've never seen a pro footballer do what he done today. He fancied himself injured so he abandoned the game and started sauntering towards the bench, completely oblivious to the fact there was a ****ing football match going on. Shaw had to take a heavy tackle covering when someone tried to pass to the c*nt. Speaks volumes bout his attitude.

We played some sublime football for the first 20 minutes or so and Schneiderlin scored a good goal to reward our efforts, but then the game went flat until the half-time whistle. What made me nervous, was the way that we faffed about at the back, Boruc making short passes to the defence and them passing it across the goalmouth in pub-team fashion, inviting a mistake that would allow Norwich to punish us. We got away with it a couple of times but you felt that our luck would run out eventually if we carried on like that. I felt sure that Pochettino would tell them to stop it in the second half, but we didn't. Boruc's kicking out was atrocious, which didn't help.

We started the second half brightly and although Lallana's substitution raised an eyebrow, on the other hand it needed Ricky in to hold the ball up, something that we had often failed to do. It really was a dream substitution to result in Ricky scoring within minutes of coming on like that and when he selflessly passed to Rodriguez to score the third, we were cruising. The fight seemed to go out of Norwich and it looked as if we would see the match out with a clean sheet, no bother.

And then that sloppy faffing about at the back came to bite us on the bum and they scored. It gave them a lift, some hope that after all the day was not lost. Another sloppy defensive error and another goal from Norwich and all of a sudden it was squeaky bum time, as they had their tails up and laid siege to our penalty area. At every opportunity they pumped the ball into the box and the defence suddenly found that they had to concentrate or lose 2 or even 3 points. But there was always an opportunity to hit a team desperately pressing for a late goal with a sucker-punch on the break and thankfully the ball broke kindly for us and we surged up the pitch and Gallagher scored his first goal for us at a very propitious time to win us the match.

In reality, it should have been relatively easy to have kept a clean sheet, had the defence not fallen asleep and pratted about passing the ball sideways and backwards so much.

But it was great that all three strikers got their names on the scoresheet and a midfielder too. Schneiderlin was immense in midfield today, as was Davis. Clyne and Shaw were also good, but I'm afraid that Boruc, Fonte and Lovren didn't have one of their finest games. Lambert will hopefully have received a great confidence boost for the part he played today and none of our lads did themselves any harm in front of Hodgson.

In the end, a good result for us, made better by going above Newcastle, the day made perfect by the Skates losing.

Did you ever play much golf oops football Bearsy?

He was walking across holding his hamstring. He was subbed because of a hamstring injury.

Cork is out for 5 more weeks, Big Vic was out injured, Adam had gone off with lumps kicked out of him and you then pull a hamstring. You don't run those off you simply hope they ain't a tear.

Only one thing you can do or it can get worse and you can be out for weeks.

Guly came on as we'd run out of other Midfielders. I would expect to see Harry Reed get on the bench soon but with JWP AND Reed in the MF leaves us awful short on experience as well as just very short.

Guly was denied by a cracking save by Ruddy but we still scored from the same move. He is a squad player until the rest of our U21 squad are ready to step in

He's done it twice before - just walked off the pitch without being substituted.

Bizarre game. Really don't know what to make of it, other than I can't see Norwich staying up.

Far too casual at times. Got to 3-0, should have been 4-0, then gave away two stupid goals in the minute, and spent the last 5 minutes defending long throws before grabbing a fourth.

Really not convinced by Ramirez. Walked over to the bench wanting to be subbed, as the ball went behind him and completely ignored it. We were better with Guly on the pitch. He has half the ability but makes a big effort and doesn't slow the passing down.

Didn't think much of the ref either. He let far too much go from both sides.

But it's another three points in our battle for 8th

I don't give a f*ck if his cock fell off, he he still has to pay attention to the game!

I'm not a football professional. I think we all know that. But, if I were, and if my cock fell off during the game, I'd hope the crowd would forgive me for a few seconds while I tried to find it.

Bear, you're a harsh judge.

Favorite chant of the day - "Its off to Brazil Its off to Brazil Sainsburys bag Its off to Brazil"

A close runner up being:

"He scores on his arse, he scores on his arse, Jay Rodriguez, he scores on his arse"

Pochettino called him over. If it was that big a deal he'd have told him to **** off back into the game.

"Fancied himself injured". How about he WAS injured and was honest with the manager that he needed to be taken off. Had a superb game today. He'll never please some of our fans though.

Need more players like Chaplow and Hammond eh?

Guly showed for the second Norwich goal why he is a joke figure amongst supporters.

He never has any urgency or tempo apart from when chasing lost causes and after the team concedes such a poor goal I couldn't believe how casual he was for the second just a minute later.

He does himself no favours.

Odd when he came on, didn't seem able to turn with the ball, no urgency, seemed only able to pass it back from whence it came despite being in a couple of good positions. I wondered if it was lack of confidence but then he did contribute to J-Rod's goal.

I was ready to give him a hard time but in mitigation it was his his head which cleared it from our box at least twice when we were under the cosh for a few minutes.

Ramirez and Guly need to go away from the Southampton area.

Two assists from Ramirez today, one of those very good.

You cannot compare him to Guly who generally offers no upside. His brainless play for Norwich's second undid anything positive but its his attitude today that was worse than his play. You cannot stroll through a PL game. Especially when you arent a very good PL player.

JayRod and Morgan excellent today.

Ramirez, Shaw, Clyne, Lallana, Lovren, Lambert - very good.

Thought JWP, Boruc and Davis below their best.

Clearly Guly is no Lallana or Ramirez but did a job...won several headers in our box when they piled the pressure.

Enjoyable game.

I did also wonder what the hell was going on with Boruc. No shot on target for him to save for 2/3 of the game then he started putting us into problems, bizarrely, for no good reason, and when he wasn't doing that he was kicking the ball all over the place like a novice.

Odd.

Gully is a disgrace .

Why on earth he is getting a look in before others

Why persist to play a player that you obviously don't rate if you have told him he is leaving in the summer.

There must be something in his contract surly as he would not be getting picked on Merritt

He is so rubbish its not funny.

Other than him we are looking a quality squad .

You're the feckin disgrace pal.

agree and it was his shot the norwich goalkeeper saved which rebounded for jrod to score but i suppose those who knock just have it in for him no matter what he does.

Guly? He didn't do much today and the mistake was horrendous but I was impressed with his willingness to run things down. Looked to have gained a bit of pace.

He runs to chase the (semi pointless) lost causes but when he has the ball he does nothing.

Not really what you want from an attacking midfielder.

The mistake for the second goal was horrendous, especially given the way the first was conceded.

At the end of the day, his contribution to Saints is probably on par with someone like Chaplow or Danny Butterfield. Did well at a lower level but I am amazed he is still here.

Also it seems to be fashionable for fans to pretend he is decent but reality is he shows nothing in games to suggest he belongs at the club. He didnt even seem bothered when he got the ball today, just wanted to get rid as soon as he could.

This for me.

Jay Rod

Clyne

Morgan.....Steve Davis

Lambert for his class when he came on.

Well done Saints....EXCEPT for the sloppy giveaway presents to Norwich.

WELL DONE Sam Gallagher.......and Steve Davis for the run.

Now home, fed, and have drained myself by bragging about the result to my missus. After a dull first half, though a lovely goal, we nearly threw all our good work away in the second half but ultimately deservedly won. Norwich were poor.

my MOTM was Morgan, cracking game. Both full backs, Morgan, Davis and JRod were great, as were Lambert when he came on, and eventually JWP, who was full of running, although he started slow.

Agree with everything said about Boruc, his kicking was woeful.

Hope Lovren is ok.
