I guess so, but I expect the West Brom board's decision was made easier by the fact that they signed him on a free in the knowledge he was nearing the end of his career anyway. If he was 5-10 years younger and they had forked out a large transfer fee for him, they probably would have tried to find an alternative solution that would bring them some kind of return on their investment, as with our situation with Osvaldo.

 

There can't be many other PL players who have had their contracts terminated like this rather than just transferred or left to rot in the reserves. The Aussie keeper (whose name completely escapes me) that was bounced from Chelsea after being stung for cocaine use is the only other example I can think of off hand.

Yes, Bosnich is who I was thinking of, but I had completely forgotten about Mutu as well, so you are both right.
