robdevil7 Posted 12 March, 2014 Share Posted 12 March, 2014 "I am all for getting behind the players, but Puncheon is one of the worst players I have seen in a palace shirt for a long while. He wanders about off the ball. No work rate at all, when he seemed to have that at other sides... He gives the ball away more than anyone else and holds the ball for too long. He gets pushed off the ball too easily. Cannot pass it ten yards. I am sick of watching him already, one thing we certainly cannot afford is players that arent willing to roll their sleeves up and work for the side and he is not pulling his weight. On top of this, I stayed behind after the swansea game to get some photos and autographs for my son and niece. He didnt give any fans the time of day and pretty much told one fan to **** off...the fan was simple to put it fairly and it was really not on. I want this **** as far away from our club as possible" Opinion of a Crystal Palace fan just before Christmas. Since then, the fans have consistently held a very negative view of him. In retrospect, was it the right decision selling him despite the depth he could have provided us?
Colinjb Posted 12 March, 2014 Share Posted 12 March, 2014 (edited) In my understanding it was his choice to leave, therefore it would have been nuts to try relying on him if we chose to keep him against his will, especially when you consider his past behaviour. I wonder if any of the Palace fans changed opinion after he scored a couple in a row a month or so ago under Pulis? doddisalegend Posted 12 March, 2014 Share Posted 12 March, 2014 Always thought Puncheon was a decent player good enough for the PL, though has a tendency to lose concentration occasionally resulting in **** ups, TBH if he looked crap at palace that might say more about the ****e he has to play with bet it was a bit of shock playing along side the likes of Chamakh and Dwight Gayle after playing with Adam and Rickie. The Cat Posted 12 March, 2014 Share Posted 12 March, 2014 My mate goes to most Palace games and he doesn't rate him at all. Have to say he was poor against us (but then so were most of their players)

BlakeySFC Posted 12 March, 2014 Share Posted 12 March, 2014 Absolute legend, his goal v Chelsea (A) last season is one of my favourite Saints goals of all time. Still got it on my Sky+ box today, and watch it about 1/2 times a week, still makes me smile like a dolphin on acid.
scotty Posted 12 March, 2014 Share Posted 12 March, 2014 He did, eventually, put in a decent shift for us. Whether or not that made up for the idiotic palaver that went before it is open to debate, but I can't say I'm amazed by the palace fans reactions. That penalty miss was bad enough, but the back header for J Rod... pure comedy gold. I honestly wondered for a moment whether he'd been slipped a backhander before he left here as part of the deal

KelvinsRightGlove Posted 13 March, 2014 Share Posted 13 March, 2014 Still not convinced he's that great. Couple of good games last season, fair enough. But I agree, held on to the ball for too long too often, too many touches, turns into blind alleys and clearly has a bad attitude. Given his history, how well would keeping him here when he wanted to move have gone? I struggle to believe he would have got his head down and performed. John Boy Saint Posted 13 March, 2014 Share Posted 13 March, 2014 Seems like a player who has coast along as hs default setting, but frustratingly shows that he is very capable and has the ability to be a much better player when he really has to get out of the hole he has created for himself with his work ethic. Lighthouse Posted 13 March, 2014 Share Posted 13 March, 2014 He had his moments, like the goals against City and Chelsea but there were as many, if not more, games where he went completely missing. Will do a decent enough job for Palace and deserves to be in the (bottom half of the) Premier League but we need to be aiming higher IMO.
Sour Mash Posted 13 March, 2014 Share Posted 13 March, 2014 Pity we weren't able to hold onto him and keep him as an important, integrated part of our squad. Building a competitive squad and keeping everyone happy is a difficult task though.

chocco boxo Posted 13 March, 2014 Share Posted 13 March, 2014 His goal celebration (he does score now and again) is arrogance personified! Did see him last year do one of the best touches I seen any footballer do, however I think he is a troubled soul who has helped us on our journey. 6 out of ten. Griffo Posted 13 March, 2014 Share Posted 13 March, 2014 (edited) Best celebration ever though Really? On another note.. We play Reading away with Nigel as their manager just after we sacked him unfairly and can barely raise a song for him, one of the most important managers in our history, yet a player such as Puncheon who has played well for a couple of seasons in the odd game here or there for us, has our whole away end at Palace singing about him "sh*tting when he wants"... 99% of our supporters are absolute tits. This is a FACT. But Played well for a couple of seasons? The truth is He was good in his first few games in l1, then sulked, spent 18 months out on loan, came back and hardly played in the championship and was okay last season. Still he did a 'comedy' celebration and scored a couple of goals so all is forgiven and forgotten.

I agree, never a massive fan, always wondered when he was going to strop next and clearly thought he was much better than he is. Decent Lower level premier league player or top 6 championship but strikes me as a bit of a c*ck as a bloke. Apparently very popular with the players though so maybe I'm wrong. Really irks me how fans seem to love puncheon despite him being a c*ck for more than half his time here, yet give Guly heaps, despite him willingly playing wherever asked, never causing any problems, playing a key part in our rise through the leagues and playing in a number of positions and trying his best. I guess he needs a funny celebration.

Try using Brown Girl in the Ring for more I say. Think Guly gets stick for being ineffective so often, not for not being as 'colourful' as Puncheon.
