Fitzhugh Fella Posted 10 March, 2014 Share Posted 10 March, 2014 Former Saints goalkeeper John Christie sadly passed away yesterday in Chandlers Ford. He was a stalwart in the 50s, making his debut in 1951 and playing his last game in 1959. He was succeeded in the team by Bob Charles who also passed away just last week. The Scottish-born Christie played 217 games for the Saints after joining from Ayr United, before winding down at Walsall and Burton Albion. A keen golfer (Royal Winchester) John loved the Saints, and up until recently he hardly ever missed a match at St Marys. Whenever I bumped into him at my local supermarket he loved nothing better to chat about the team's fortunes, he was a genuinely nice bloke. Condolences to his family. xerox Posted 10 March, 2014 Share Posted 10 March, 2014 RIP. There has been much talk on here about who should be included in the banner, or not. May I suggest that we create a blank space, a bit like the empty forth plinth in Trafalgar Square, in order to commemorate occasions such as players/other important figures in the clubs history, passing away? I think it would be a nice touch. Thanks for reading, Xerox.

Deano6 Posted 10 March, 2014 Share Posted 10 March, 2014 Why is the death of a keeper who played for us for just 2 years a sticky, but the death of someone who played for us for 8 years not??

Miltonroadboy Posted 10 March, 2014 Share Posted 10 March, 2014 I used to watch him play as a kid and recently have had the chance to chat with him about those days at our golf club. A lovely bloke, full of stories to tell and he remained a keen fan to the end. Rip John
