The Kraken Posted 8 March, 2014 Share Posted 8 March, 2014 Gary Linker on Adam Lallana, via MOTD. A faultless appraisal IMO. The Kraken Posted 8 March, 2014 Author Share Posted 8 March, 2014 Agree. Lambert's effort off the post was fairly sublime too - shame that didn't go in. Such a casual, confident little flick that would have had everyone purring were it just the other side of the upright. At odds with some of the scathing I've (somehow) seen of the big man on here today.
The Kraken Posted 8 March, 2014 Author Share Posted 8 March, 2014 Remember when people on here last spring thought he wasn't PL quality. LOL. To be fair, for vast swathes of last season he wasn't anywhere near this season's heights. It's easy to be wise after the effect, but to not recognise that his performances this season have stepped up by a huge degree would simply be daft. Even he and others (Kelvin) have stated that the captaincy put a huge burden on him that he had to work on significantly to overcome. I love it that he's come through it all for the better. And if I'm honest, I never for one minute saw him hitting these heights, even despite the fact that he's always been a cut above at whatever level he has played. Toon Saint Posted 9 March, 2014 Share Posted 9 March, 2014 Massive improvement from last year. He has always had the technical ability, but he seems to have gained an extra couple of yards of pace and his fitness levels are astonishing - a credit to the pre-season work in the summer. His confidence levels have clearly soared and he just looks so at ease now in the PL. Closest English player we have to someone like Santi Cazorla (two footed, passing, vision, workrate) Incredible to think that there was debate about him being in the starting XI over Puncheon, at the back-end of last season. If he maintains his current form to the season's end, then there is every chance he will get shortlisted for player of the season awards. He won't win - Suarez will surely clean up - but would be a massive credit to him to be nominated.

CHAPEL END CHARLIE Posted 9 March, 2014 Share Posted 9 March, 2014 He has developed his game hugely since last year, I wonder how much is down to MP, Adam is always praising him. But Adam has been playing like this for years, it just that because he's now doing it in the Premier League the rest of the English game - and some on here it seems - are suddenly starting to take notice. I dare say NA and MP may deserve some credit, but I strongly suspect it's mostly down to his own outstanding ability to control a football, his (superb) work ethic, and the fact that at the grand old age of 25 he is now entering the very prime of his career. As for his supposed lack of form last year, I'm one of those who regarded that as mixture of exaggeration and the fact that he suffered a mid season injury that took him a while to fully recover from. Having said all that methinks he could be a even better player still if only his shooting improves.

He is sustaining this through matches and through the season so far because he is being well conditioned and well managed. Just look back at the post match threads and see how many complaints there were about him being the first one substituted in matches this season. The management were playing the long game and we are seeing the benefits now.

UpweySaint Posted 9 March, 2014 Share Posted 9 March, 2014 Value really depends on if he is keen to talk to a bigger club. 25 or up we owe him the option but we could, a good wc provided and a bit of a bidding war, see close to 30. Bermuda Saint Posted 10 March, 2014 Share Posted 10 March, 2014 Adams skill has been obvious to even a blind man! SFC have know this for a long time, they saw his ball skills, knew he had an engine that would not stop and would mature into the player that all of England can now see. He was given the captaincy this year (many fans were against this) because they new this was the man who we would be building a team around for the next 5 years. They were making it as hard as possible for those poaching teams to steal one of our brightest player. SFC have been a feeder club for too long! and have decided a new era has to be ushered in!. SFC coaches know what we have in the academy, know what they are developing. They have given Adam a team that he call call his!! will he be a MLT and stay for his entire career? for now i think so, even if RM come calling, he is sold on this project, he is working with some of the best young footballers in England, and as long as we continue to show improvement, he will be loyal and stay. If after two years (he will be 27) and we have not cracked the CL then I think he will make that move, but for now our young stars are on the Saints train and moving on up! Another obvious thing to SFC that will happen if our academy continues to produce high quality English players is starting to unfold now......we will be the backbone of the England Intl team. We already have a possible 4 players going this year, we have many more in the England under 18/21 squads. If it is obvious to an amateur like me that one of Spain's greatest attributes was not only having great players, but great players playing for the same club team. Barcelona has 7 players in Spain's Intl squad, playing together week in week out, all on the same page. This is a recipe for success, and one that I hope is not lost on England. In fact all of England should be supporting SFC, trying to keep these players together instead of breaking them up and distributing them amongst the teams of the world. We have shown we have the right philosophy and ability to nurture talent to the highest level, why not even assist us in keeping our players together for the sake of England WC and European dreams!. With this dream in mind, I would like us to be aggressive in bringing in more of England's young stars. I think Wellbeck is a great shout, will he come to us? maybe, MU are in turmoil, we can almost guarantee him more playing time. Steven Caulker is definitely attainable. Ruddy or Foster are also within our means. Could we temp Walcott and Ox back? probably not. Will we go after the stars of the under 21 national team? will Zaha,Will Hughes, Redmond, Ings, Butland, Jack Robinson feel like they can be part of the Saints train? A few more of these stars could truly bring a revolution to the English National squad. It is a dream of mine and should be a dream of all England supporters. Lets add to our group of England stars, not sell them off to the highest bidders. It is in the best interest of England's National footy pride :0)

How even better they could have become. The Southampton way at developing and improving football skills is better than Arsenal's clearly. They had the early talent. Adam had the potential, but he grafted and worked to better his all round skills-despite injuries- and truly deserves his current acclaim.
Charlie Wayman Posted 10 March, 2014 Share Posted 10 March, 2014 Lallana looks like a shoe-in for England captain after Gerrard steps down. Already it is noticeable how other players look up to him despite their club allegiances. He is 25 after all which is quite senior in new England terms. He does seem to have an authority now that he did not possess as captain before Pochettino arrived which seems also to have been the catalyst for his new found consistently good form. Running over all those hot coals is likely "wot did it"! As for leaving us... ? Na! Never in a Thousand Years!
