Jack Cork

He has a bit of a dilemma in the summer. He has said in the past few weeks that he is open to signing a new contract as long as he plays. Well pretty much since December he has been first choice through injury and even when Wanyama came back he held his place. Now his season is over how will he evaluate his status? With any luck he wants to stay and we'll work out a deal. He gets plenty of games and even if he wasn't first choice it is inevitable in that part of the pitch that over the course of the Premier League season and with Pochettino's training methods and tactics that injuries will occur.

Must have missed that, when was this?

Hope Corky makes a sound recovery and signs a big contract.

We need Jack Cork , Victor Wanyama , Morgan , Steve Davis , JWP in our squad/team.

We needed a squad for injuries and suspensions and we have gradually got closer to PL standard...squad to compete at the top level......

Well done Saints...onwards and upwards:)

That ends his slim hopes for wc. Hopefully they can tie him down to a long term contract now.

He had zero hope for the WC anyway. Unless he has got himself a Honduras passport o the last few weeks.

Still don't understand why MP totally ignored him at the start of the season and played the likes of Prowse ahead of him. He was tremendous the previous season, so it just didn't add up for me. I imagine that is exactly how Jack felt too, so little wonder he considered his options. If Wanyama continues to be selected ahead of him without the form to justify it, then Cork is bound to look elsewhere. Perhaps then the timing of the injury has done us a big favour in that MP won't now have to make a decision between them for the rest of the season and we can pin Cork down to a longer contract.

I couldn't agree more.

As for offering Jack a new contract this is one of those genuine 'no brainer' decisions. To sign a replacement defensive midfielder of JC's obvious class would surely require the expenditure of £5m or perhaps £10m. Whatever combined pay rise and bonus his agent may be able to extract from the club I doubt it would amount to anything like that kind of sum.

Wanyama and young Ward Prowse did well enough for us early season, but MP's neglect of Jack Cork was one of the few things he has gotten seriously wrong since he arrived here.

Two things that have shocked me...

1) mopos neglect of Cork at the start of the season.

Is that the start of the season that was our best in the Prem ever and that you are using in other threads to substantiate arguments that we've failed this season because we haven't built on upon? That one?

Impressive as the first 11 was.... We might (just might) have beaten Norwich, Stoke, WHU or Sunderland if Cork was picked ahead of Wanyama or JWP? We will never know

Even though Wanyama and JWP were variously MOTM or got key assists in those games. We might (just might) have lost those games too. We'll never know

Which game(s) was JWP motm?

Didnt Cork get 5 in a row when he came back into the side?

JWP got ALL the assists in the games you mention - Wanyama was MOTM at Stoke etc.

The problem in those games was not defending but opening up teams -and we all know how much of a creative threat Cork is

And no Cork didn't get 5 MOTM in a row when he came back in, sunshine.

Like we did against Stoke, West Ham and Sunderland the last month with Cork in the team?

You never know would be more appropriate to put it...
