Batman Posted 15 March, 2014 Posted 15 March, 2014 Blimey, some big players out for them there. no game in this league is easy. but we should be winning this really. With players fighting for world cup spots etc they have players out all over their side. no doubt hooper or RvW will score LOL
Saint Garrett Posted 15 March, 2014 Posted 15 March, 2014 Think I'd start with JWP, Boruc; Clyne Fonte Lovren Shaw; JWP Morgan; Davis JRod Lallana; Lambert. 4-0. Get in front and think we'll get a few today. COYS!!
Suhari Posted 15 March, 2014 Posted 15 March, 2014 Boruc Clyne Fonte Lovren Shaw Davis Morgan Lallana JRod Ramirez Gallagher Sunny day, nice conditions; expect we'll have most of the ball. Tell Gaston to do his thing for an hour. JWP & SRL to come on for Gaston & Gallagher as required.
captainchris Posted 15 March, 2014 Posted 15 March, 2014 Let's control the game hence no Gaston for me thanks.
stu0x Posted 15 March, 2014 Posted 15 March, 2014 We really, *really* need to stretch the play. Last third penetration is so poor because we are so slow to move the ball forward, and invariably play in front of teams. It's no surprise that Rodriguez is so much more effective away, when he can use pace and break on the counter. Norwich will come for a point, so we have to find a way to drag them forward and then hit them on the break. Otherwise it's going to be ninety minutes of us knocking it about in midfield while 10 Norwich players stand in front of us and watch. For that reason Clyne *has* to play, and get forward as much as possible - so whoever partners Morgan will need to sit relatively deep and be responsible for dropping in behind Clyne whenever he breaks, as Morgan tends to do for Shaw. Lambert should start, but with the instruction to function more as a traditional 9. His ineffectiveness recently is down to Poch getting him to drop deep all the time, so invariably he ends up behind Rodriguez and Lallana. If he stays high, it forces the Norwich midfield to either split or to leave him to the back four - either of which will create space. I'd then be tempted to bring Rodriguez inside to sit in directly behind Lambert, and then put Lallana and Gaston either side. They can squeeze the play between the Norwich lines, and feed either Shaw/Clyne outside or Rodriguez/Lambert inside. Bit of a radical shift in terms of tactics (although very reminiscent of Bielsa's Chile, so Poch should be at home with it). But we really need to change something if we are to effectively break down teams that are happy to sit off us, which I believe Norwich will be.

I would play Lallana inside and JRod wider but apart from that, agree. Excellent post.
SNSUN Posted 15 March, 2014 Posted 15 March, 2014 Me and the undercover Norwich supporting wife now in town. Bring it on. (Bragging rights at stake... Especially after the result earlier in the season, I need this.)
Dalek2003 Posted 15 March, 2014 Posted 15 March, 2014 Norwich will try and hit us on the break. We could sit back and hit them on the break. Trouble is if we sit back Norwich will sit back quite happily as well as a point is what thet will be happy with. Oh well, look out for the deckchairs.
Lallana's Left Peg Posted 15 March, 2014 Posted 15 March, 2014 Lambert on the bench. Jay Rod up front. Ramirez and JWP both start.
Saint Garrett Posted 15 March, 2014 Posted 15 March, 2014 Tettey in midfield for them today. Thought he was missing? Can't let him boss the midfield with his strength. Would have started Rickie personally.

Would have started Rickie personally. It's Fer that is missing, not Tettey. You know what you are going to get with Norwich, hopefully we can push them right back into their half for long periods and Gaston can come up with some magic that opens the game right up.
for_heaven's_Saint Posted 15 March, 2014 Posted 15 March, 2014 Hope Ramirez has a great game. And that the fans don't get on his back.
Suhari Posted 15 March, 2014 Posted 15 March, 2014 Not sure about JRod upfront on his own....doesn't hold the ball up well. However, I doubt we'll need that a great deal. Epect us to have most of the play - so for me that line up looks potentially very fluid and creative up front. Looking forward to this one.

Holding the ball up is vastly overated, gives the opposition time to get back and re-group.
JoeShmoe Posted 15 March, 2014 Posted 15 March, 2014 Think Lambert had to be dropped, he's been awful since xmas to be fair
pangy Posted 15 March, 2014 Posted 15 March, 2014 Has Roy got a season ticket or something, seems to be at every home game lately
