NickG Posted 8 March, 2014 Posted 8 March, 2014 Mauricio Pochettino has led us to 6 away wins this season. Previous best was 5 in 2000/01. Still have 4 left (Man City, Spurs, Villa and Swansea). Away record up with top teams.

Saint-Armstrong Posted 8 March, 2014 Posted 8 March, 2014 Is this a Premier League best or a all-time best? I'd imagine PL?
Glasgow_Saint Posted 8 March, 2014 Posted 8 March, 2014 cherry picking Guess its ok as its positive? Delighted with this "record"
northam soul Posted 8 March, 2014 Posted 8 March, 2014 I thought we won 7 in the early eighties. Oh I forgot doesn't count as not premier league.
Toon Saint Posted 8 March, 2014 Posted 8 March, 2014 But didn't anyone see his body language today? His heart isn't in it!
Glasgow_Saint Posted 8 March, 2014 Posted 8 March, 2014 But didn't anyone see his body language today? His heart isn't in it! Top 8 bonus
Wiggles31 Posted 8 March, 2014 Posted 8 March, 2014 Impressive away record. Isn't it great knowing you can travel to an away game and feel you can get something. Even against the top 6.
for_heaven's_Saint Posted 8 March, 2014 Posted 8 March, 2014 I thought we won 7 in the early eighties. Oh I forgot doesn't count as not premier league. It does count, but did it actually happen?
Glasgow_Saint Posted 8 March, 2014 Posted 8 March, 2014 Impressive away record. Isn't it great knowing you can travel to an away game and feel you can get something. Even against the top 6. Id agree to some respect, but with just one win against the top 10 sides all season tells a different story I know what you mean though. We have a great squad of players, best in my lifetime for sure. Just hope we keep hold of the best players this summer and add 3-4 too
paulwantsapint Posted 8 March, 2014 Posted 8 March, 2014 (edited) All won to nil as well There have been seasons where 6 clean sheets in a whole season home & away haven't hapened Edited 8 March, 2014 by paulwantsapint
david in sweden Posted 8 March, 2014 Posted 8 March, 2014 far better away than I thought (W6 D4 L5 goals 18-16) though don't think we could have done much better, but the home games have let us down (W5 D5 L4 goals 21-19) couldn't see us getting 3 points from the Chelsea or Tottenham games, and too many drawn games at home. We gave up at HT v. Liverpool, but those 5 home draws have cost us. Should have done better from Sunderland, Stoke and West Ham games. Never seen such total domination (77%) v. Villa, but we still managed to lose. If you think we should have been higher in the table, then it's those lost 10 points at home that caused it.
northam soul Posted 8 March, 2014 Posted 8 March, 2014 It does count' date=' but did it actually happen?[/quote'] Wasn't it season we came 2nd W7 D7 L7
benjii Posted 8 March, 2014 Posted 8 March, 2014 Should have had penalties in away matches against Norwich, Stoke and Everton as well.

shirleysfc Posted 8 March, 2014 Posted 8 March, 2014 How does his home record stack up, Mr. Campbell ? What is his home record then? How does it compare to other managers? Surely you're not just having another childish swipe just because we've won and you have nothing to whinge about?
Sour Mash Posted 8 March, 2014 Posted 8 March, 2014 (edited) Mauricio Pochettino has led us to 6 away wins this season. Previous best was 5 in 2000/01. Still have 4 left (Man City, Spurs, Villa and Swansea). Away record up with top teams. We are hard to break down and solid away from home. Have we really never won more than 5 away games in a season before? Amazing achievement, Edited 9 March, 2014 by Sour Mash
kpturner Posted 8 March, 2014 Posted 8 March, 2014 How does his home record stack up, Mr. Campbell ? I don't rally care how his home (or away) record stacks up. What I care about is the fact that we are/were completely safe from relegation in February. Absolutely fantastic season so far wouldn't you say? You'd have to be a seriously miserable individual to find fault IMHO
NickG Posted 9 March, 2014 Author Posted 9 March, 2014 How does his home record stack up, Mr. Campbell ? What a strange reaction, even by your irrational standards. What's your point? He achieved a saints record since prem era, your reaction? Not to enjoy it, talk about how he achieved it, whether it will be bettered? No, nothing positive at all. Instead look to find fault with saints elsewhere, why? Its bizarre this is the only club forum where posters criticise people for being a saints fan. Really don't know why you are here. If makes you miserable find something you enjoy, life is too short. Definition copied for you... fan (fæn) n 1. an ardent admirer of a pop star, film actor, football team, etc 2. a devotee of a sport, hobby, etc, follower, biased towards from fan(atic)] I take you view of me being biased, seeing positive etc as a complement. I do same with my kids, support, see positive, enjoy, encourage, not assume the worst. You should be pleasantly surprised, not much more than year ago you were saying "why the f%&k have we signed Rodriguez" now you seeing him play for England, Scheiderlin doing ok for fancy lightweight, Lovren doing ok for the signing of amateur corner shop summer transfer policy. Lighten up, will all be dead soon, enjoy it or move on!
BlakeySFC Posted 9 March, 2014 Posted 9 March, 2014 Fantastic achievement for the team, MoPo the best manager since Strachan.
OldNick Posted 9 March, 2014 Posted 9 March, 2014 It is good to know that when we go away that we have a chance of getting a decent result. Winning away at Liverpool and drawing at Mna u in the same season was a thing of dreams from the 60s onwards. Well done the club, and the superb away support, Iam sadly a stay at home and wait for the result fan these days
Glasgow_Saint Posted 9 March, 2014 Posted 9 March, 2014 Just a shame we didnt take this impressive "record breaking" away form to Sunderland...... But lets not dig up old ground. Kudos to mopo and the team.... Great record

danner Posted 9 March, 2014 Posted 9 March, 2014 It's been an excellent season ... I find it pretty easy to ignore the miserables.
rick1976.4.38 Posted 9 March, 2014 Posted 9 March, 2014 makes it a great season for me,as I only do away games makes up for all the years of heartache watching the saints lose away not sure how many we will get out of the last few but would be great to do the spurs after the battering we gave them last season only for bale to pop up. coys

CityRanger Posted 9 March, 2014 Posted 9 March, 2014 Our tactics suit away games better it seems. Could be that teams play there own game at home (as you say suits our game) but adapt tactics away against us(long ball/ two up top etc..) Apart from that our strong away support is unwavering which must help the team.

Apart from that our strong away support is unwavering which must help the team. Palace had the right idea yesterday, just not the quality to execute. They were trying to get the wingers in behind our full backs as we play the high line and allow the full backs to push forward. First half (before our goal) they had a few 50/50 even 60/40 offsides given our way. If they had got the breaks / luck they may have been a greater threat. Palace are quite a poor side quality wise, i dont think a single Palace player would get in our side, but we didnt outplay them.

A few inches inside and it would have been a different game...
alpine_saint Posted 9 March, 2014 Posted 9 March, 2014 Fantastic achievement for the team, MoPo the best manager since Strachan. Setting aside the fortune hes had available. Still not convinced we will exceed 52 points. Not fit to lace the wee man's (who took the cup seriously) shoes
Viking Warrior Posted 9 March, 2014 Posted 9 March, 2014 My own opinion is MOPO is the man for saints . We play fantastic exciting football . I do not want the dire boring hoof the ball up field and defend for our lives to eek out a scoreless draw . I want more of what have under MP Do the constant moaners with your ever sickening negativity get bored with it ?
OldNick Posted 9 March, 2014 Posted 9 March, 2014 Setting aside the fortune hes had available. Still not convinced we will exceed 52 points. Not fit to lace the wee man's (who took the cup seriously) shoes Yep he bottled out and played a stifling side, he brought on Tessem instead of Kevin Davies. Also recall the qtr final the following season when we lost at Bolton, a poor performance
Greenridge Posted 9 March, 2014 Posted 9 March, 2014 Setting aside the fortune hes had available. Still not convinced we will exceed 52 points. Not fit to lace the wee man's (who took the cup seriously) shoes The last six months of his tenure we were going backwards.
Glasgow_Saint Posted 9 March, 2014 Posted 9 March, 2014 Setting aside the fortune hes had available. Still not convinced we will exceed 52 points. Not fit to lace the wee man's (who took the cup seriously) shoes The wee man lead us to 8th + a cup final with far less a side and resources than mopo. Agree with what you say about laces
Greenridge Posted 9 March, 2014 Posted 9 March, 2014 The wee man lead us to 8th + a cup final with far less a side and resources than mopo. Agree with what you say about laces Strachan had a win ratio of 34.xx at Saints whilst MP is currently at 37.xx
Goatboy Posted 9 March, 2014 Posted 9 March, 2014 Strachan had a win ratio of 34.xx at Saints whilst MP is currently at 37.xx Lol. How was WGS's body language?
Greenridge Posted 9 March, 2014 Posted 9 March, 2014 Lol. How was WGS's body language? Not so good. He had a bad hip and had just signed Neil McCann.
NickG Posted 10 March, 2014 Author Posted 10 March, 2014 Setting aside the fortune hes had available. Still not convinced we will exceed 52 points. Not fit to lace the wee man's (who took the cup seriously) shoes Disagree. Think MP is a better manager. I think we looked better side the season before WGS (don't dare mention the manager that season but he was clearly better than WGS!). WGS was a good manager for us but, IMHO, over rated due to a single cup run (is Dennis Wise a great manager?) And his sound bites. MP clearly is liked and respected by his players, built great team spirit, play attractive well admired football, innovative, prepares / trains team well and has developed young players, clearly well thought of etc.
alpine_saint Posted 10 March, 2014 Posted 10 March, 2014 Strachan had a win ratio of 34.xx at Saints whilst MP is currently at 37.xx Superb return for about 50m quid.
alpine_saint Posted 10 March, 2014 Posted 10 March, 2014 The last six months of his tenure we were going backwards. What would have happened had he been allowed to buy Saha and Malbranque (chickensh*t compared to the financial support Mopo has got), and not been stifiled by Lowe ?
alpine_saint Posted 10 March, 2014 Posted 10 March, 2014 Yep he bottled out and played a stifling side, he brought on Tessem instead of Kevin Davies. Also recall the qtr final the following season when we lost at Bolton, a poor performance It was unfortunate we lost 6-1 to Asrenal a couple of weeks before in the league; I would argue we lost the 2003 Cup final on that day, not on the day of the final itself.
CB Fry Posted 10 March, 2014 Posted 10 March, 2014 The last six months of his tenure we were going backwards. Are you including being fourth at Christmas in your "going backwards" six months? Being that MP has got nowhere near that level, I'd happily "go backwards" from that point if we could get there again.
