It seems our general level of performance is tailing off. I'm wondering if this is due to the Cortese effect wearing off. I imagine Mr Pochettino would have had weekly reminders of his goals and likely penalties. Without that driving force (threat) has he and everyone else eased off and lost a bit of their competitive edge?

I wonder how football teams throughout history have ever had success without Nicola Cortese.

I actually was starting to think that but today's grit we showed proved otherwise.

On today's evidence absolutely the opposite.

half the players are thinking about world cup games....... nothing to play for... zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Yes I really hate a London away day, good day out with mates, lots of beers, nice weather, good away win and more beers.

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz indeed....

We need a decent Jay Rod song - bloke's great and not celebrated enough - top scorer. Made me think the Louis Suarez song that Liverpool sang last week (addictive as hell) would suit him... 'and I just can't seem to get enough of...do do do do dodo dodo ... JAY RODRIGEZ!'

Oh and stop singing OWTSGMI slow all the bloody time... it is soooooo dull.

Who's that with another great goal, it's Jay Rodriguez, it's Jay Rodriguezzzzzzzzzzz

Who's that with an effing great goal,it's Jay Rodriguez, it's Jay Rodriguezzzzzzzzzzz

who's that who's going to Brazil, it's Jay Rodriguez, it's Jay Rodriguezzzzzzzzzzz

On the plane, next to AL, it's Jay Rodriguez, it's Jay Rodriguezzzzzzzzzzz

It's ok, I'll get my coat.....

Perhaps I'm being a little bit 'infantile' but this win means that idiot Lawrenson got it wrong again. I'm so pleased we now have in excess of forty points. Narch next week is nailed on.

COYS

Talking of which ...

Another #MysticJoker guaranteed loss.

Lolz it's easy to read how few people watched the game or only saw a dodgy stream.

Last time I saw a football pitch that looked so bad was when I played Pub Football on Municipal pitches about 25 years ago. Sure it had GRASS on it but it looked like it had been cut with a set of those Hair Thinning Scissors the Barbers used to use when we all had hair!

The joy of HD is that it was clear to see the mess on the pitch. We lost track of the number of times the ball either bobbled or sped up or simply seemed to stop dead in the grass. One pass from Davis in the 2nd half hit the grass and virtually buried itself.

Add in all the strong arm tactics, the sly pushes and nudges (which of course the moron Webb never sees) it REALLY was a bloody good performance.

In previous seasons we (like many other teams) would have been knocked out of our stride and frustrated. Yes it wasn't pretty but we did a bloody good hob out there yesterday, no wonder MP & others were very happy with the result.

Two questions now

Last player to score on his arse outside the box and 2) Is that the 1st time we have won with Webb in charge?

Oh, and I would be ****ed off as a Palace fan that Lovren didn't get sent off, not sure Clyne would of got back with their wingers pace as he was flying.

There was an article recently comparing Webb's decisions prior to the 2010 World Cup final, and his decisions post the final. Since that match Webb rarely gives a penalty or sends a player off. The conclusion of the article was that these days he avoids big potentialy match changing decisions

Couple of milestones yesterday, firstly got past that magic 40 point mark and secondly with 9 games left we now have more points than we had for the whole of the 12/13 season.

Just shows what a great job Poch has done and considering our finishing has struggled just how brilliant our midfield and (when all fit) defence have done.

Hopefully we can push on to around 55'ish points by season's end which would be a fantastic achievement.

Just a shame about the cup

Avoiding a potentially match changing decision can become a match changing decision in itself.

Great to see Victor back at his dominant best. Hope Jack and Jose are OK - the latter was still being treated as the players left the pitch.

You seriously think that was wanyama at his best? I'd hate to see his worst! Not a great game hardly mustered a shot on goal other than the goal pleased to get a win at last though

Poor quality pitch but still managed to control the game. Impressive stuff.
Absolutely. It was one of those games that had a very different feel to it and we came through winners from a real battle. I could only get tickets in the Palarse part of the AW stand and man are they noisy, most of them don't even watch the game just chant at each other. But to be honest they are sh*t so fair play, why watch that each week. Also, they thought Howard Webb gave us everything, which I thought was the reverse (With the exception of the Lovren yellow perhaps).

Liked MP's postmatch interview - said it was one of the most enjoyable games he's taken part in the prem. He's a proper competitor and likes nothing more than a good scrap.

Lovren should have been off and we gave up some very clever yellows. Otherwise Webb didn't give us much though I thought the lino on our side had a poorer game, esp 2nd half.

That's the song that is used for him, but just the chorus cos most people haven't got the brain capacity to remember more than a couple of lines.

His name is Jay Rodriguez, he wears the famous red, I just can't get enough, I just can't get enough

He scores them with his feet and he scores them with his head, I just can't get enough, I just can't get enough

He scores a goal and the Saints go wild, and I just can't seem to get enough of...

etc.

I can't get to many games this season but I just love the honesty of those that actually go to games and give an honest opinion far more realistic than the so negative ****s who come on line think think they represent the genuine saints fans views of the team

We need more people like you Viking on this Forum.

Despite south west trains making me stand all the way from parkway to clapham and a ****e view (we were 3 rows from the back), a decent away day. Great to see us win a scrappy tight game. Thought back 4 did well , and Adam for 60 mins. Thought we lost it a bit up top when Rickie went off, but overall pleasing game. MP seemed up for it.

Saw the extended highlights on Saints Player - quite a few tussles between Jedinak, Fonte and Boruc for every Palace corner. Fair tactic, or is it against the rules to just lean into the defenders/goalkeeper? It was rather frustrating to watch...
