Top 8 + decent cup run was my minimum expectation

With the squad we have that was achieveable imho

We dont tend to hear much of your opinion? Are you just another of these posters that just post about posters and make snide comments, but never offer an opinion of your own?

IMHO since you ask, I am happy if we keep playing football the way I believe it should be played. I am happy that I don't have to scream to "keep the f***ing ball!" like I used to. I am pleased with the way we are progressing, impressed with the way we have pushed on in only our 2nd season in the top flight and excited by our youth and potential.

It would have been great to go further in the cups but hey, you can't have everything.

I also have faith that we will keep our younger players next season and that there is a good chance our manager and owner will stay.

Whatever happens though and whoever is steering the ship or sailing in her, I will always find joy in supporting my team.

How about you?

I particularly like this from BBC write-up:

"Three years ago this weekend, Lallana and Lambert were playing against Yeovil in League One, but the England pair were at the heart of their side's good work as Southampton consolidated ninth place in the table."

Three years.... worth the pain.

Meh? Ho hum? Bizarre

Yep, I'm afraid so, but after so many years of still having something to play for in March, be it promotion, survival or cup semis, this all feels a bit flat. Great season, some great football, but I don't feel much about this win, at least not as much as I did when we got a draw back there in the relegation season.

A win is a win , I'll happily take it but it still feels empty, apathy is the word.

Yeah. I mean you cant have a moan about anything and everything. No moaning threads that you can start. Its a real bummer when we win isn't it.

Never mind your skates got a brave point today so its not all bad is it?

His team is either in the Championship or League 2...not 100% sure which, but it's certainly not in the Premier League...Now would you kindly please stop quoting him?.

A decent response thank you. I respect your opinions and just ask that you respect mine.

This forum would be dull if we all thought, wanted and expected exactly the same thing right?

Still waiting for your opinion on whether we should sack MP?

Jack Cork out for up to 6 weeks according to Simon Peach on Twitter. A big blow, but a chance for Vic and JWP to stake a claim.

Simon Peach‏@SimonPeach·5 mins

Sounds as if @jackcork1 faces up to six weeks out with ankle injury sustained at #CPFC. All the best to him - big blow for #SaintsFC.

Jay Rodriguez nets the winner, and his 13th of the campaign.

Saints now on 42 points, just one behind Newcastle - who have a game in hand, against Everton.

Thoughts...

We need a decent Jay Rod song - bloke's great and not celebrated enough - top scorer. Made me think the Louis Suarez song that Liverpool sang last week (addictive as hell) would suit him... 'and I just can't seem to get enough of...do do do do dodo dodo ... JAY RODRIGEZ!'

Oh and stop singing OWTSGMI slow all the bloody time... it is soooooo dull.

What is "Mo Po" 's record now? You haven't quoted any of your statistics tonight. By my reckoning he has lost nine out of nine now - if you ignore all the matches which he hasn't lost.

Much needed win to stop a bad run of results and take us in the bottom half.

This win has pretty much secured top 10 now its to fight it out with NUFC for 8th, excuse the pun pards.

Teams will stay up on 38 points this year with a few poor teams staying up meaning we should really be able to maintain form from this season and have a top 10 finish each year despite what happens with MoPo and if KL does not spending loads of money.

Why oh why do so called Saints fans continue to slate Lambert??? We won ffs!!

Get off Lamberts back you ignorant people. Clearly non of you lot that criticise him have ever actually seen the great man play.

Get a life nobs

Because in most matches he is easily our worst player now.

I've been out all day so I had look on the BBC and see

Three years ago this weekend, Lallana and Lambert were playing against Yeovil in League One, but the England pair were at the heart of their side's good work as Southampton consolidated ninth place in the table.

Then I come to saintsweb for more match info to find out that Lambert was awful, not fit to wear a saints shirt and should be taken out back of SMS and shot like an old nag.

Funny old game football.

Still sounds like it was a **** poor game so I didn't miss much. Can't really expect much for the rest of the season IMO, the team is safe, the players all look knackered the last few weeks (and again today by some accounts), some players have one eye on Brazil and the rest on their summer holiday.

Watching Palace is like watching Pulis' Stoke, without the finesse.

Watching a match from the Arthur Waite stand is like looking through a letterbox with some **** banging a drum in your ear.

I'm really pleased and impressed with that win. Palace are a rough, tough side and we had to match their physical game to win it. Shows me the players are highly motivated which is a major plus.

Get off Lambert's back. His form has dipped, that's obvious, but he hit the post with a great flick. And they roughed him up and gave him no time on the ball. He's such a nice lad I sometimes wish he would give it back a bit more. Contrast with Murray, a limited footballer who pushes, nudges, steps in on defenders, backs in...

Gamesmanship - someone mentioned the long grass. Good spot. Aside from their physical approach, they also take their time at corners allowing time for all that pushing and shoving nonsense. Tactics to spoil the opposition's concentration IMO.

It was a battle and we won it, deservedly.

we should have been at hull today but hey ho we were at palarse and that c*** on the drum for 85 minutes

have to say I love srl but hes not been up to it for a few games now, dont know whats happened but hope he turns it round

thought we should have beaten a poor palace side by a lot more but srl hit the post and no one else wants to shoot,

howard webb was p**s poor for both teams, how he can ignore a boot into srl face but then give a foul for a dive seconds later is a joke but he did it most of the game, this man is definetley not the top ref in England and should retire

good season for season for saints but sadly I think its died abit now as there really isn't much to play for

Great result. Cementing our status as a top half side in the premier league 3 years after plying our trade in League One. Splendid stuff.

Thought Bolasie was pretty handy for them - iirc he was in the Plymouth side we beat to basically ensure our promotion from L1.
