doddisalegend Posted 7 March, 2014 Share Posted 7 March, 2014 So with the season heading towards the final furlong and the likely relegation candidates taking shape (anyone from Swansea, Norwich, Palace, West brom, Sunderland Cardiff or Fulham). Are there any players from relegation threatened teams you'd like to Saints try to sign, ideally at a bargain price as the relegated club tries to cut it's wage bill, in the summer if that team is relegated? I guess Swansea have the best options with Michu and Dyer being good acquisitions, maybe Johnson at Sunderland, always liked Snodgrass at Norwich and perhaps Redmond to. SuperMikey Posted 7 March, 2014 Share Posted 7 March, 2014 Caulker from Cardiff if they go down.
Lallana's Left Peg Posted 7 March, 2014 Share Posted 7 March, 2014 Can't honestly say there is anyone at those clubs who interests me much on the basis we'll only be signing better than what we have. Only outfield exception may be Michu but bigger clubs would be in for him and Swansea aren't going down anyway. Ruddy as a keeper may be a good shout though. skintsaint Posted 7 March, 2014 Share Posted 7 March, 2014 Ki Sung-Yueng might be worth a punt, seems to have done well at Sunderland and not sure why Swansea lent him out as done well there last season. Caulker as mentioned would be good. Ruddy not sure much of an improvement, if at all over Boruc. Giaccherini from Sunderland, Yacob, Berahino & Redmond from WBA, Hernández, Michu, Bony & Vorm from Swansea would be others who would be worth a go at the right price, from the other teams that could go down. Saint Garrett Posted 8 March, 2014 Share Posted 8 March, 2014 Personally think it'll be Norwich, Fulham and Cardiff. Redmond Possibly Hooper? But can barely get in their side ATM. No one else I can think of really.
nta786 Posted 8 March, 2014 Share Posted 8 March, 2014 Steklenburg IMO, is a really good keeper (bar that poor game against Chelsea tbh), and he isn't really helped by Fulham's aging defence... He is the Dutch No. 1 for a reason too.

FloridaMarlin Posted 8 March, 2014 Share Posted 8 March, 2014 General rule of thumb is don't sign players from relegated teams. Granted, some individuals within those teams might shine in a relegation season. But there is a reason teams go down and it's generally because their players aren't good enough. Caveat emptor. Professor Posted 8 March, 2014 Share Posted 8 March, 2014 One proud fact about the present Saints' squad is that we have no player who has played in the Prem for anyone other that Southampton. Let's keep it like that. Players brought into the first team this year will be further improved by next season and we have several more potential additions to the first team squad from the Development squad. If that does leave a need for a specialist position, such as CB or striker, I'd rather see us go outside England for quality recruits keen to come to the Prem. studentsaint Posted 8 March, 2014 Share Posted 8 March, 2014 Declan john, liam ridgewell, Ben Davies (although I don't see Swansea going down). Maybe Michu and Worm would complement us. well I might think twice about him. Yes he's tough in the tackle, but I saw him sent off in one game and he always looks like he's one tackle away from a red card. On his day, he can be OK but when the red haze comes up before him, he's just an accident waiting to happen.

DuncanRG Posted 8 March, 2014 Share Posted 8 March, 2014 If Swansea somehow manage to get themselves relegated the vultures will circle big time. Lighthouse Posted 8 March, 2014 Share Posted 8 March, 2014 I always thought Marshall was a decent enough 'keeper. Not sure he would come here to be number 2 to Boruc but a much better reserve than Kelvin or Gazza. Caulker too from Cardiff. Wouldn't have anyone from Fulham, awful squad. I'd definitely have Bony given chance but I can't see Swansea going down.
eelpie Posted 8 March, 2014 Share Posted 8 March, 2014 Puncheon looks promising (not for penalties though). We could do with a match winner off the bench. That would be an improvement. And he wants Premiership footie.

Toon Saint Posted 8 March, 2014 Share Posted 8 March, 2014 Dan Burn from Fulham. Great potential, and we could do with a young CB competing with Lovren/Fonte as not sure whether Stephens or Turnbull are going to be banging down the door anytime soon. westmidlandsaint Posted 9 March, 2014 Share Posted 9 March, 2014 Depending on who actually goes only include dead teams I think could go. doddisalegend Posted 9 March, 2014 Author Share Posted 9 March, 2014 Forgot about Berahino I reckon we'd be a good fit for the young man better to come to us perhaps, with our policy on young players, than one of the bigger clubs that will no doubt be interested in him. Ewell Posted 9 March, 2014 Share Posted 9 March, 2014 I'm also struggling to understand why you'd want Wes Brown....utter trash player. I disagree, he has been excellent in every game he has played against us this season. He is also better than Mayuka and Hooiveld and it could be debated either way that he is on the same level as Fonte. He has been very consistent for Sunderland this year. I would also add Ki of Sunderland to my list.

And finally if we're going to move for any player who's better than Hooiveld, our shortlist might be quite long. #justsaying

Mayuka at CB you must be kidding, too small, Maya Yoshida is far better (I recall I was crucified when I made the same silly posting error). I know this may seem a bit daft at the moment, but Mitroglou may well be worth a punt once Fulham are relegated. He looked absolutely **** yesterday, but once he gets into the way of things in PL (a bit fitter with the help of Magath) and sheds some of his rustiness he may well turn out to be exactly what we need up front. I think he may turn out to be a decent striker.
