Lallana in the legends banner

Lambert has done more for us than Lallana to date.

I'm not sure I'd agree with that... In fact I'd argue that Lallana has done more to deserve his place.

I'd argue that Lallana has played as much of a part in our rise from League 1 as Lambert (I know, its all opinions and what not...), but he also stuck with us during the dark days when he could have moved on when our future was bleak to say the least. Then he becomes the team captain and represents the club very well and now will probably be going to the World Cup (and potentially as a key figure in the squad)...

...Well, that puts him ahead of Lambert for me.

Of course, much love to Rickie... He's a swell guy too ya'know...

Lambert has been the better, more influential, player for the last 4 or so years, that's why he's up on the banner of the forum.

Lambert is our talisman and is coming towards the end of his career.

Personally I'm not sure there should be any players who are still playing on the banner, but Morgan and Lallana could be argued to go up there.

If Lallana sticks with us for the whole of his career, then he's up there with Le Tiss for me.

Legend is a very over used word very rarely used correctly.

Legend, typically, is a short episodic, traditional, highly ecotypified historicized narrative performed in a conversational mode, reflecting on a psychological level a symbolic representation of folk belief and collective experiences and serving as a reaffirmation of commonly held values of the group to whose tradition it belongs.

Lallana requires more history to become a real legend.

Keegan's signing was a major coup and gained us loads of media interest but due to his short stay probably had the smallest on-field impact of any of them. Too early yet for Lallana, but then it's too early for Lambert as well and he's been up there a while.

Should only be added to the legends banner if he plays out his whole career here and then transitions to manager and then Chairman and then honorary club president. Only the. Should he be added to the club banner

Keegans' 68 appearances for Saints feel a tad lightweight then.

Who said it is a legends banner? I always thought it was to show the type of club saints are. So that encompasses legends, people who have stayed here their whole careers and shown loyalty and then show how the club can pull amazing signings out of the bag like Keegan and Shilton.

He was the largest reason for us being back in the prem and English top scorer last year IIRC.

You're missing my point. I'm asking when he was included in the banner? Which season- the season we got promoted from L1? Either way, it was before the achievements you mention. As I say, what he's subsequently done more than vindicates his inclusion.

I think there's a case for the criterion for inclusion being that if you say the player's name then the word association is Southampton. That would cut out Keegan and Shilton and certainly bring in Big Ron. Lambert I suppose would be known to most for his association with us and if he's in it's hard to exclude Lallana.

can we add Pochettino as well.

Took us to our highest ever premiership position and brought through great young talent

Deserves his place imo.

What about Strachan who took us to 8th & the FA Cup Final in the same season? That to me is better than MP's achievements even though we got 4 more points this season.

Very true. And even though people may argue it's harder to do it today, Strachan's squad was comparatively weaker. At least I get that feeling.
