Dark Munster Posted 5 March, 2014 Share Posted 5 March, 2014 Boring game, Sterling played very well, Gerrard proved his quality again, Lallana looked excellent and Shaw added a lot Nice to see the young front three of Sterling, Sturridge and Welbeck aswell I thought Wellbeck looked lively. He seems to play better for England than for Manure. Johnson was utter crap.

doddisalegend Posted 5 March, 2014 Share Posted 5 March, 2014 Pros - Adam and Luke looked good as did Sterling plenty of good potential young talent coming through for England. Cons - Denmark were **** and we still struggled and we are going to get murdered at the world cup. Somehow good club players seem to go down hill once they put on England shirts. Compared to the way saints play England look shockingly slow and insipid maybe some England players just play better playing along side quality Johnny foreigners to provide the skill. Goatboy Posted 5 March, 2014 Share Posted 5 March, 2014 (edited) If I woz woy, I would stick with plenty of youth in the side. Hart, Shaw, Walker, Lallana, Sterling, Ox, Sturridge. What have we got to lose? I'd be more than happy to watch them f**k it up. Jagielka, Cahill, Gerrard, Rooney. That's not a bad/young side on paper. GAS Posted 5 March, 2014 Share Posted 5 March, 2014 Loved watching the second half. Lallana and Shaw are just very good players and they stand out. Although I really like Sterling and should definitely go to Brazil, I'd play him as an impact sub. Tends to run with the ball then cut back and pass when he could have made the pass initially. This type of play will be bread and butter for the better teams.

Don't quite get the point of Milner. **** game, usual crap England performance, Lallana made the difference and Shaw settled in like an experienced pro. Sloth should play for England he would the England style well. Wish we could sign Schmeichel, with Boruc we would have two top keepers. I would also take Wellbeck, I think he would link up well with Lallana and we have already seen him play well alongside Lambert. Won't happen of course. shurlock Posted 5 March, 2014 Share Posted 5 March, 2014 (edited) The scouse mongboard is more excited than this place - and this is just skimming the surface. Shaw is scary good. Would love us to be aggressive and go all out for him. He's worth the fuss. I don't think I could put into words how incredible signing Shaw would be, he's got world class written all over him and is so young. The progress players like Sterling and Henderson have made could help convince. That and a DVD of how dire Chelsea's brand of football is.... Lallanas been on less than 90 seconds and done more than Rooney and Wilshere over 60 mins. Would love to get him Just blend Southampton and Liverpool together, chuck a couple of good centre-backs in there and things will be sorted. Looking more an more likely that the debate will turn into whether Shaw starts, and not just travel to Brazil. It really is a shame Lallana is English and would cost no doubt around £25m, as he is a really good player. Let's just offer 60 million to Southampton for Lallana and Shaw. I really should be in charge of our finances. Watching Lallana, his intelligence is exceptional. Hart+Liverpool + Soton - Hodgson = best NT Lallana and Shaw are boss. Shaw was magnificent against us on Saturday. Probably won't happen but if we somehow got him we'd be set for the next 10 years in that position. Such a huge talent. The only way I'd be happy about Chelsea signing Shaw is if we signed Lallana. If Southampton become a CL club free for all, I WANT IN!!! Beautiful from Lallana. Lallana has been miles better than Wilshere Yup, id love us to blow all our budget this summer on him and Shaw. **** it. Sign Lallana. He's brilliant. Can't be said enough..and I really like Jack. But Lallana has been superb and most importantly, bright without trying too much. To be fair to him, Lallana had an advantage over Wilshire by not having to play in the same team as Rooney. Adam Lallana does look like he'd fit perfectly with us, he's a quality player. England so much more fluid without Rooney. Welcome to Anfield, Lallana. If I'm Jack Wilshere I'd be a bit nervous at how easily Lallana has slotted in and out performed him here. 25m for Shaw, and that's the LB position sorted for the next dozen years. That's moneyball. Where was Lallana all these years though? Cant't believe he turns 26 in a couple of months. Playing up through the ranks as Southampton rose up the leagues. Just a player who's learned a lot under good managers and a great set up. It's a bit of a Southampton love in this evening. No, in fact I don't think we'll get either in the summer and I'm already furious at Ayre and the committee for it, the ****ing c*nts! Lallana's one of the most "un-English" English players I've seen, similar to Sturridge. If we signed Shaw that'd sort out our left back problems for ten years plus. Very creative player. Surprised he isn't used in the no.10 role more for Southampton. Looks like his best position personally. Southampton could well become the greatest club side on earth. pap Posted 5 March, 2014 Share Posted 5 March, 2014 These performances show how important it is going to be to keep these players over the summer. I've often said that perception is important when signing players. Better to be seen as a top half side with a shout at Europe than a relegation side, etc, etc. Lallana has been in stunning form this season. Big performances at the World Cup from Saints players will raise the profile of the club. On Shaw; if the left back spot is a three horse race between him, Cole and Baines; Cole has been humanely destroyed after falling on the first fence. He wasn't terrible, but Shaw's performance outclassed him. Took a few minutes to get comfy (think he got nutmegged early on) but everything seemed to go for him after that. A really impressive performance from the pair of them and a massive step toward going to Brazil. Hodgson can't and won't ignore Lallana. Think Shaw might be there too, especially if he produces another stint like that in an England shirt.

the saint in winchester Posted 6 March, 2014 Share Posted 6 March, 2014 agree. On the flip side, Rooney is no way as good compared to when he first came on the scene Euro 2004, he was brilliant. 10 fecking years ago now Seriously, I would NOT take Rooney to the World Cup. He's a flipping bully. He demands the central striker role leaving Sturridge to play wide. He insists on taking the free kicks .. badly. I was delighted when he went off. suewhistle Posted 6 March, 2014 Share Posted 6 March, 2014 From The Guardian internet commentary: "78 min: Lallana is a footballer. He knows what’s up. He has to start. He’s not fazed by all this. [snip] GOAL! England 1-0 Denmark (Sturridge, 82 min) Daniel Sturridge is treating Wembley to that silly dance and well he might, because he has just diverted an almighty amount of pressure that was about to be placed on England’s shoulders! But while he scored the goal, it owed so much to the brilliance of the brilliant Adam Lallana. He had the ball on the left and looked like he was going to cross with his right foot. But he’s better than that. He dropped a shoulder, completely duped his marker and dipped back on to his left foot, before chipping a cracking cross to the far post, where Sturridge rose highest and sent an unstoppable header back in the opposite direction and into the far corner. That’s a really good goal and it has been coming. Updated at 9.42pm GMT 9.42pm GMT 85 min: For me, Adam Lallana is an England starter." :-)

Woy played Adam in the centre last night, not his usual "winger" position he plays for Saints (As in the press is going on and on about how many bloody Wingers Woy has at his disposal and then plays only Sterling from the start) Being more central he was far more involved - something we should look at for us as he gets better and better

Not sure there's an easy way to accommodate both of them? Maybe some sort of 4-3-2-1 if we could get a really good, mobile striker to play at the tip? Saint86 Posted 6 March, 2014 Share Posted 6 March, 2014 How good can Lallana be? In the past I compared him to Ozil and got laughed at, but I think they're similar. People just like to hype up foreign players and knock our own. Would anyone say Ozil has had a better season? Both great players IMO. I just wonder what Lallana could do with better players around him, especially fast players and good finishers. Lallana would have a lot more assists if playing with Sturridge and Suarez anyway. Ozil got a lot of assists at Madrid, but playing behind Ronaldo and Benzema. I fit Lallana would be comfortable technically to fit in to most great sides. I honestly think it's a shame there's debate over him in the squad, when he should be the first name in the england team. There's a lot of young creative talent, Wilshere, Barkley, Chamberlain, Sterling and we look likely to persist with too many older players. Even if we don't, we still don't have a team. Too much chopping and changing. We need to see the best young players forming a team together, gelling, showing team spirit and learning each others games. Would love to see Chamberlain, Lallana and Walcott behind Sturridge after the world cup. Unbelievable pace and creativity. Maybe Wilshere and Barkley behind. Livepool, man utd and Arsenal fans were all talking about Lallana with envioous eyes last night.... And whats more, a fair few said they can't afford him. How good do you want him to be? He is allready in the top 2 or 3 english players at the moment. The rest of the country needs to catch up with the concept that academy football clubs won't all be playing in the champions league, doesn't mean their players aren't class. How many quality spanish/german young players don't play in the CL... If Lallana stays injury free we will have one of the best english players in our team for the next 5 years. He will only get better with every new challenge as well... as is the case with all our youngsters.... Keep them and the future is bright.
