In this case, what is your definition of "tradition"?

Before you start with your "in 1887 we wore a sash, in 1892 we wore red and white quarters and in 1932 we wore blue shorts so we dont have a tradition" nonsense, a tradition is by definition

"A long-established custom or belief that has been passed on from one generation to another:"

SInce 1951 we've worn stripes with black shorts aside from a period in the 80s' and now. 60 odd years which makes that is long established custom which has passed through 3 generations of Saints fans. So just shut up you plank.

PS i'm not fussed about stripes.

Personally don't particularly like any even striped kits, nor feel attached to them. Looking at link guess there are a lot of similar age who feel the same - I grew up with red & white kits but didn't see saints in stripes for about my first 13 years watching. Think early 80s my preferred option. Tbh prefer last two years to many of those

When did you grow up to not see Saints in stripes for a period of 13 years? 1885?

Which 13 years did saints not wear stripes as home kit?

I have heard from a respected ITK source that Real Madrid, in a bid to expand their brand in the far east, will ditch their awful and much replicated all white kit for a more forward thinking and more marketable all red ensemble for the next four seasons which they believe will help them conquer the elusive Asian market.

Brazil are also close to ditching their despised Yellow shirts for a scarlet atrocity that Brazillian officials are sure will lead the selaceo to the pinnacle of football glory that they have constantly missed out on in the every world cup for the last 100 years and lead them out of the shadows of international football obscurity

Been a fan for over 25 years and I can honestly say that I genuinely prefer us playing in all red than stripes. Not against red and white but would prefer more of an Ajax/Air Florida style kit. The mono-colour badge looks more professional and we look like more of a professional brand than a small tinpot team. We need to mix our new modern approach with out history, but that doesn't necessarily mean stripes.

Never actually met anyone who doesn't not want the stripes back.

There seems to be a few gimps on here that have no respect for our tradition, but part of me thinks they are just looking for attention.

What a pratish infantile post.

In truth pal you have no respect for other peoples opinions and if ever there was an attention seeking post just look at your own.

I still can't stand the normal red and white stripes and would prefer the red kit we have now or, the sash kit. If we do go "stripes", this is my favourite option (1976 home) and I think would look cool/different enough against the backdrop of similar stripped teams;

Would be happy with that. Pretty much any variation of roughly equal amounts of white and pillar box red would be fine by me, ideally with black shorts.

Yep, that's a nice shirt. I don't mind conventional red and white stripes but much prefer the variations we've had (1976 and Rank Xerox). That said the 1989 red and white stripes were our best ever "normal" stripes and IMO looked superb.

I also got the socks for 99p in Sportskit...

The badges on the socks fell off very quickly on mine. Disgracefully poor quality. I wrote into on the march fanzine to express my disgust as there were no mongboards in those days to complain on.

They were about the most robust socks I owned. I was left distraught when my mum washed them after yet another kickabout in them and somehow turned the white parts a devastating shade of dark grey.

Fair play to you for continuing to support a team for 25 years that you considered tin-pot, must have been a tough stint.

Other less hardy souls would have been seduced by the allure of modern forward thinking plain red wearing football giants like Swindon Town or Bristol City.

I'm not old enough to remember any good times of us in red and white stripes. We had years of struggling to survive and battling for relegation, so for me personally a change from the stripes shows us a new stronger us. The best years I remember we were in a sash or an all red kit.

If you don't think the 89/90 or 02/03 seasons (for example) were good times, you're probably following the wrong sport.

Obviously they were great times for the club. But all those photos above are from the Cortese era. The era in which we gradually turned ourselves into a successful brand with Cortese guidance. He, like myself believes the stripeless kits and mono-colour bagge enhance our brand image and symbolises our recent success. I think it's time to embrace change, as we look to push on even further as a club.

Jesus Christ.

Our current kit symbolises two things.

One, Cortese's failure to get Adidas to supply us anything other than the most generic, Sunday league sports shop design in their portfolio.

And two, it symbolises business genius Cortese's failure to secure one of the top flight's most pitiful shirt deal with some tin pot computer company in Romsey.

What a visionary businessman Cortese was. He was so great that he increased our commercial income to 6 million!

I'd be interested to hear peoples thoughts on the below?

Looks like a dynamic revolutionary kit suited to a unique forward thinking global mega club superbrand.

Not like the kind of tin pot parochial stuck in the past junk a club like Athletico Madrid would wear.

I know right?! :)

But I reckon this kit with the club crest in full colour on the white strip and a nice sleek 'Sunseeker' sponsor logo would look pretty good.

But one has to admire him for getting us to the prem (a great achievement that should be applauded and which made a huge difference financially)

Lol. Wasn't going to respond but as there have been so many missing the point (or just being a tad sarcastic!) I just wanted to assure you than some of us knew exactly what you mean (and I've been supporting them 50 year!). For me, I think the test is having a shirt that is quite unique rather than one that looks like half a dozen other clubs. The sash and the Xerox kit did just that. I can see why people prefer stripes but there's now a psychological thing about us struggling in the Premier League for years (2003 excepted) in stripes and the plain red being associated with possibly the two greatest years in the clubs history of Premier League football.

He was clearly talking in the context of Cortese being visionary with regards to monochrome badges and shirt design. That notion is ludicrous.

I was only quoting you, as I know that whenever you say anything negative about Cortese, you like to balance it with some praise.

But I agree in principle that our badge does look more professional in monochrome and personally I think that the sash shirt was the best we ever had. Although I'm not keen on the current red shirt, I've mellowed towards the red pinstripe, which begins to look quite classy in retrospect.

Not really fussed about returning to stripes but if we do it needs to be different to everyone else in the league. Really hate this years bargain basement kit (thanks Nicola). love the monochrome badge (thanks Nicola). but most of all I hate the fact that we don't have a kit that is SAINTS, be it Air Florida, sash or whatever we need to be unique.

By staying with Adidas we will continue to wear chavy kits the like of which can be seen walking down any pompey high street.
