2014/15 Kit Revealed - #TheStripesAreBack

The club would have signed off on the design, I find it difficult to believe that Adidas provided us with a kit design that we didn't approve.

Sour Mash is right above that Adidas ****ed up with their supply chain, though, stock levels were well below what was deemed acceptable for months.

Hence I presume another one of those "commercial revenue streams" that the new board alluded to that could be improved.

If we were waiting for stock on many items which the club was hoping to have revenue attributed to, how much money was potentially lost? Probably only a couple of hundred £k, but certainly enough to add up from that area.

Puma pay Arsenal £30m a season to be their kit supplier. Do the sports kit manufacturers pay the mid table sides to provide their kit? They effectively are sponsors of the clubs and get the same publicity that the shirt sponsors get. If we produce our own we would obviously miss out on this money, whatever it might be.

Far be it for me to stand up for NC, but Adidas did stuff up with the late delivery of various bits of kits, fair enough reason for a contractual dispute there.

I agree, long sleeve shirts for example didnt come in until October and they werent the only things that arrived late.

I can just see the first game of the season now. Man Utd away, 70,000 fans. Luke Shaw is parading the Jules Rimet Trophy in front of his new home fans. Meanwhile Saints, captained by Jono Forte, are being forced to play in their pants and vest by the PE teacher because they didn't bring their sports kit.

on OS now about not using Adidas

http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/news/article/14052014-statement-southampton-fc-adidas-1552140.aspx

Following months of discussions at the end of last year, the decision was made at the start of December 2013 that the Club would terminate its contract with its Official Technical Supplier, adidas.

In February and March of this year, the Club worked hard to repair the relationship with adidas but, despite these healthy discussions, it has become clear that, due to the short lead times involved, adidas were unable to produce a Southampton kit in time for next season.

As a result of this the Club has had to find an alternative solution, and we will be unveiling exciting news regarding our 2014/15 kit within the next couple of months.

Why does it take so long for Adidas or Nike or whoever to sort out, when they've shown they usually just use a template shirt and stick a badge and sponsor on?!

Could have kept the same shirts just changed the sponsor. Home shirt with white badge and sponsor would look so much better.

Perhaps it's not the real reason

I'm guessing that the lack of a kit supplier for next season is part of the reason why we couldnt attract a better shirt sponsor than Veho............

I get the impression Addidas werent interested, which is why we only got offered generic crap which then couldnt be supplied on time in sufficient quantity.

The official statement is clearly revenge spin against NC, who has apparently been sh*t stirring for weeks to the press about player sales.

Have to agree with this. There's not really any point in making this statement other than to have a dig. They've not announced the new kit maker or said exactly when it'll be launched (I think we could have worked out it'd be in the next couple of months ourselves). Why bother to come out with this statement

The club had to go out and buy adidas stuff from various outlets last summer as they failed to deliver promised items for pre-season. Saints weren't the only ones to suffer, West Brom were also badly affected. It was a catalogue of f*ck-ups and Cortese was surely within his rights to kick up a fuss - but as we all know about his personality, he may have been a bit OTT. It wasn't exactly a secret that there was a new Saints/adidas store planned for West Quay which never happened, I guess there just wasn't enough stock available to fill it!

Possibly breach of contract?

Call me mad but why can't they just wear this seasons kit again next year. Surely problem solved.

exactly what I was thinking,

Apart from the sponsor thing, nothing a bit of tippex can't sort out though.

This makes the comments RK was supposed to have said to the awards do even more strange.

If we were starting from zero in Feb/March with a new manufacturer, then we are 't tied in to having a Cortese - abortion plain red special after all.

A real pity for the dinlows on here that think plain Swindon style red kit is somehow futuristic and exciting but there you go.

Uh not necessarily.

IF he had a row, it is an equal possibility that he ordered a new kit from someone else before he was resigned.

The Board have then simply spent 3 months trying to get out of both messes.

Only strange if you are a dinlow enough to lap up RK's corporate babble.

It does take 29 days transit time for a Container from Shanghai to Southampton.

But then if the container goes to Felixstowe because landing at Southampton is more expensive and there is a light breeze the ship won't be unloaded on h&s ground so the container will vanish of the system then pop up 5 days later in Rotterdam waiting to be either put on a ship going the other way or the back of a wagon to come to the Uk by road................ So I make that a week after the season has started! :D

I've been on the fence on the optimistic/pessimistic divide but this news has firmly pushed me onto the glass half-empty side. I no longer believe that the current board have the ability to run a successful football club. Assuming that everything on the OS is true we had months of discussions before deciding to end our contract with adidas. Fair enough but wasn't part of that discussion what kit we would wear instead? Why wasn't ending our deal with adidas immediately followed by a signing of a new deal with another manufacturer. Instead of getting a new supplier we spent three months talking to adidas and then found out that adidas couldn't do us a new kit even if they wanted to. If adidas don't have enough lead time, surely Puma, Warrior, Kappa doesn't take less, so what are we going to get, 25 sunday league outfits down Sports Direct?

There's also the pledge to be transparent. I can get the reason not to announce the initial contract break, if it was the new board's wish to resume the contract then they could have done it and we need never know, but why announce it now and not in March. Why not explain what the board is going to do now rather than in the next couple of months, it better be within two months, in two months and two days we're playing our first league game of next season. The only reasons not to tell us now are that they don't know what they are going to do yet or they know and know that we're not going to like it.

You might think that I'm going overboard about shirts when there are more pressing matters like our manager and half our team potentially jumping ship but think about it this way, organising a set of shirts for the team to wear next season should be easy. If our board can't even do the easy stuff, can they do the difficult task of building on this team and getting us ready for european competition?

Exactly my point Bearsy as the bit you decided not to quote made clear. Do you think this shows the board to be competent?

If I was honest with you yeovil and to be v.serious, i couldn't really say. I dunno how long i would spend trying to talk adidas round before i give up, or how long i would spend choosing a different vendor, or how much of a problem it causes if i don't release details of my new shirt deal until july. It don't strike me as a massive problem really. I spose obv I'm missing out sales of shirts to people who exclusively buy them to wear on their package holidays, and you do see them people, but in some ways it's prob best not to encourage them.

This is what has probably happened. Cortese ends contract, New board comes in and tries to save the deal with adidas but they're ****ed off and don't fancy it. Board make a new deal with another kit supplier, but haven't sorted the new sponsor yet (something cortese should have started) so cant release kit. They sort a new sponsor and the kit can be designed, Adidas then respnond to a question on facebook putting this out in the public domain so Saints have to respond. As Aap3 have a contract till July 1st , we cant release images yet so issue a statement to address this issue. I imagine well be told early July
