shurlock Posted 24 February, 2014 Share Posted 24 February, 2014 Difference is that MP actually will give the youngsters a shot. There are quite a few managers out there that wouldn't which for the national game isn't great. Take West Ham - they had 7 players over 30 on the pitch on saturday. Obviously their academy is a pile of s**t but it shows just how risk averse and negative managers get when the chips are down.

Thats all lovely if you create quality players and you keep them to win something, otherwise what is the point when you can buy ready made players from abroad who can keep you in the League and the money from Sky pays for it? We can take the moral high ground and pats on the back from the pundits and press for our academy but the long and the short of it is it has to achieve something other than cheap labour for the club in the long run. robbo1029 Posted 24 February, 2014 Share Posted 24 February, 2014 Hate to go on about the whiney ****s but I thought this quote was pretty spectacular: At the end of the season - you can determine who has been the better team. I'm inclined to say that given their superior investment, we'll respectfully finish quite close behind them and are not far off them. Arguably, without the injuries, we could well be above them. LGTL Posted 24 February, 2014 Share Posted 24 February, 2014 They're West Ham. I care as much about them as I do a Barnsley or a Bolton. They can write want they want, why does it bother so many?
Trader Posted 24 February, 2014 Share Posted 24 February, 2014 I don't get this at all - surely West Ham are "The Academy of Football". They've been banging on about it for the last 50 years to my knowledge. You mean they're not anymore?
Turkish Posted 25 February, 2014 Share Posted 25 February, 2014 That's good of you to acknowledge that there were high emotions when that happened, Bearsy and many were guilty of knee-jerk reactions. But Misguided can go off the deep end when people just disagree with his opinion. You only have to look back on the Climate Change thread to see that he doesn't take kindly to other posters having the nerve to diasagree with all of his immense knowledge on everything and when they started running rings around his knowledge gained through his ability to cut and paste, he lost his rag royally. But whilst he's good at finding all these little nuggets in an effort to make him look good in his own mirror, I took his advice from an earlier occasion and resurfaced an absolute pearler from him in the past too. Saint86 Posted 25 February, 2014 Share Posted 25 February, 2014 we would need to spend circa £100m on 5 players and they have an impact like lovren to have any chance of top 4 That is utter hore****. Midfield is done and dusted, espciailly when ramirez comes good. We need a CB of Lovren or Fonte's level or better. We need someone like Osvaldo who isn't going to upset the team. We need a quality GK. As for spend. Ramirez is our most skillful player (£12m), wanyama (£12m) Lovren (£8m), Osvaldo (£12-15m). If we spend on good young players who actually fit and don't upset the team then I reckon we will have a very good first 11 next season. In perspective, we were close to drawing away to arsenal, beating them at home. In both games vs chelsea we utterly outplayed them for 60min (granted chelsea are far better than us and showed it in how they stepped up), we drew away to united, battered tottenham, drew with city when at 50% squad fitness. It really won't take much to push this squad on that little bit further so that we are challenging for europe. Certainly not £100m.... It is all about continuity and growing the squad organically... Not tottenham's upheaval. We need anther 3 quality signings and none going out next season. Yes the team has been disappointing of late, but we deserved at least a draw against Wet Spam, and Sunderland was frankly appalling, but its fine margins for this team now! Onwards and upwards. adrian lord Posted 26 February, 2014 Share Posted 26 February, 2014 Back to the article... I'd say the most ludicrous claim is that they might attract MP if he leaves us. He'll be off to an exotic , glamorous, Champions' League club if and when. They don't meet any of the criteria.
Saint86 Posted 26 February, 2014 Share Posted 26 February, 2014 It's not utter horse shyt is it. The evidence is in real life We haven't average £20m on the above 4 players.... So we don't need to average £20m on 5.... The figures we are spending you are more looking at 8 players for £100m... Stop being melodramatic. Another summer like last with 3 quality additions in quality areas and we will be in very good stead.

Window Cleaner Posted 26 February, 2014 Share Posted 26 February, 2014 (edited) we need to spend about £100m to challenge for the top 4 (seriously) why on earth do you think we dont. when the evidence is in reality don't think we need to spend anywhere near that amount but we need to be more astucious in our choices. There are good players available for 5 or 6 million, you have to know where to look for them though. I'd have thought we'd be well up on that with our planet wide scouting network. If we have one area where we can really improve it's player recruitment. Far too many cock ups in the recent past. James Posted 27 February, 2014 Share Posted 27 February, 2014 Ridiculously patronising article. I On the same note for one hope that our club is never managed or run in the same way as theirs. Their fans are some of the most arrogant/genuinely spiteful in the Prem. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

What's that Shakespeare quote about protesting too much. This lad seems confused, even when we lose we take some pride in the performance because we can. They have no such consolation, when Hammers lose Allardyce is a hoofing dinosaur, it's only when they win he's a tactical genius. Only last month he was public enemy number one.
