Looking forward to the game but not the match thread as the usual suspects will

be banging on and on and on with their usual dross...

A win of any sort with a clean sheet will do me...

West Ham are on a great run and have now won three games in a row following their draw at Stamford Bridge. In contrast to Fulham and West Brom, the Hammers stuck with their manager Sam Allardyce rather than sacking him when they were on a bad run around the turn of the year.

After a run of five points from nine games, West Ham have picked up 10 points in their last four matches. They are reaping the benefits of backing a manager who had a proven track record in the Premier League, instead of changing things and making them worse.

I was surprised that Southampton boss Mauricio Pochettino fielded a weakened team in their FA Cup defeat by Sunderland last week. As I said then, Saints are not going to climb much higher in the league table and they are not going to drop many places either so I don't get it. Why not have a cup run and reward your supporters?

Overall, though, they have had a very good season and in the league they are continuing quite merrily.

Lawro's prediction: 1-1

Always liked that Lawro chap.

Cork is close to player of the season for me.

If Lovren tweets an image of himself kissing the Pompey badge and demanding he be allowed to join them in the summer, and Lallana is caught wearing a Cortese mask whilst buggering a New Forest pony, I reckon Cork could well have a shout

can see big vic on this. his muscle and aerial ability will be needed today

Sure he will start. Cork later when they tire. Lovren/Yoshida 45 each. Close call on Chambers/Clyne. Otherwise the usual suspects.

Any decent Saints friendly pubs near the ground?

Usually plenty of Saints fans in the pubs on the Barking Road. If going by train have a drink around Liverpool Street station and hop back on the tube for 20 min (ish) journey to the ground.

The Boelyn ground is in such a dump of a area getting a train after the game is such a ballache, been a few times this season with work and seen some of the worst football played in 20 years of watching games, the crowd turns on them quickly if things are not going well so hopefully we can get them riled

As long as we stick the the pressing game, they shouldn't get a sniff and will resort to long balls out from the back, the only player that has shown any promise was Morrison and they have shipped him out, cant see anything but a win here

0-2 Saints J-rod x 2

Will we go above United on goal difference? It's possible. Wondering whether to put a little bet on it. A £10 pays back £150.

Is that before or after they play or at the end of the season, wouldn't count on Palace beating them today really.

Today. More wishful thinking really, not helped by being influenced by a Palace supporting mate who's quite confident about the match this evening...

Depends if Utd think that they can weaken their side today and get away with it in view of their game against Olympiakos on Tuesday or whether they can easily beat Olympiakos and need to put out a full strength team today. Surprised that they haven't been griping about playing at 5.15 when they have to travel to Greece for Tuesday actually. They can't afford to drop too many more points if they really believe that they can finish top 4 (which they won't anyway) so they have to decide whether their

best chance of CL football isn't from winning the CL this year (which they won't)

It has never officially been Upton Park, that is just a nickname due to the area. The stadium has always been called the Boleyn Ground.

Incredible, I have always thought of it as Upton Park. Just thinking, perhaps there are other ground names I have wrong.

Posted
Maybe not but I never heard anyone use anything other than Upton park until the last couple of years.

like celtic park

or is it park head?/

have no idea (nor care, really)

Living in London I hear it called the Boleyn ground more than I do upton park to be honest

Well apparently it's situated on (or near) the site of the old Boleyn Castle, named as such because Anne Boleyn hung out there sometimes.

I thought it was a sponsors name, I was wrong.

When they accepted the Boleyn Group's filthy lucre I expect, it's not named after the queen of 1000 days.

Nothing to do with any group called Boleyn Group and their filthy lucre, the only filthy lucre at Wet Sham is that of the porn kings Gold and Sullivan. It is indirectly connected with Anne of 1000 days actually, but not named after her.

The club rented Green Street House and grounds in the Municipal Borough of East Ham from the Roman Catholic Church from around 1912. Green Street House was known locally as Boleyn Castle because of its imposing nature and an association with Anne Boleyn, who had either stayed at, or as some believe, owned the house, the ground is said to be haunted by one of her maids who died in childbirth. Hence renting the grounds of "Boleyn Castle" the name Boleyn Ground came into being.

Me too and always been Upton Park but then never heard Nou Camp changed to Camp Nou until last few years as well.

I could be wrong but I am hearing that Lambert may not be fit (or if he does start' date=' not fully fit).[/quote']

Sam Gallagher could do well against this lot.

Bench looking strong with those two back.

Wanyama was talking about not being at full fitness the other day and hasn't been performing the last 2 or 3 games, so probably just given some extended time off.

Posted

Wanyama said in his pre-match interview that he was still some distance from being match fit - he said it felt like he was in pre-season all over again. Seems a bit strange not to include him in the squad though. (cue an FA cup squad quip...)
