View From The Top Posted 14 February, 2014 Share Posted 14 February, 2014 Corky and I have done nearly every northern away game together since 93 (bar my 3 year ban) and to suggest we took good numbers to run of the mill northern games is utter ******s. Blackburn, Bolton, Everton and the like were populated by us northern exiles and a few coach loads from the south coast.
Barry Sanchez Posted 14 February, 2014 Share Posted 14 February, 2014 Maybe you were drunk and had double vision? Funny that you're the only one that remembers this. Seems like you're the one talking s**te You're also complete twisting the argument too, it's gone from your fab 4 games where we took loads to now me saying we only took a 1000 a few times. As i said originally, in the main away attendances up north were c500 with often 1000 or so to London and midlands games. Of course there were times when we took more but in the main that was about it during the 90s as others have confirmed. Where did I say I only went to 4 games between 92-95? I mentioned 4 as I could hardly mention all the games I went to, you put we only took 500 to games not me you blert.

aintforever Posted 14 February, 2014 Share Posted 14 February, 2014 I'm not the best to judge because I tend to cherry pick the best away fixtures but our away support did seem to improve after relegation. I guess as we were in the top flight for so long we just took it for granted, plus we have traditionally been sh!te away from home so it often felt like "oh no, not Anfield again!". Barry Sanchez Posted 14 February, 2014 Share Posted 14 February, 2014 Barry, you have been caught. Turks is right. Also, the problem was even worse in the eighties. Mid week to Sunderland, two coaches, neither full, and about 30 who went by car. No I have not been caught at all, caught about what? That we took over a 1000 to games frequently in the 90's? Of course we did I went to them.

Im sure you're not making it up, it's no biggie.

Ok you called turkish a bullshitter for claiming we used to take 500 to northern away games. Ok, you were wrong about that. It's nothing to be ashamed of! I don't blame you for not keeping accurate attendance records, you was prob trying to watch the game or whatever. It's not ur job to accurately assess crowd figures. Forest, Villa, United, Liverpool, Leeds in one the years we took well more than 500 (when they just opened their new stand) straight off the bat, City away as well took lots. The others have not commented on that period directly or if they have I have missed it, are you only talking about up North games now? So when VFTT said he's been to most northern away games since 1993 that was a different period to the one you were talking about when you mentioned for Fab Four between 1992-95 and forest away in 1997? What about the Leeds game c96 that VFTT, Ericb and myself have commented on, was that a different period too? Come on bazza, you're going to have to try a bit harder. We really haven't. Against the really big sides we did ok but outside of the top 5 or 6 we often had a pitiful away following. Dropping down to the Championship and League 1 was a definite benchmark in arresting that trend.

alehouseboys Posted 14 February, 2014 Share Posted 14 February, 2014 I think it helps that the last few years we have had a chance of actually getting a result, this season in particular, we've never looked so good away from home in my over 4 decades of following this club. Most away trips in the 70-2000s was mainly damage limitation with the (very) occasional victory.
