niceandfriendly Posted 13 February, 2014 Posted 13 February, 2014 ...then you'll love this Probably the most crazy f*cking thing I've seen. :scared::scared:
KelvinsRightGlove Posted 13 February, 2014 Posted 13 February, 2014 Watched this earlier, jesus christ. Genuinely felt queasy, and had unbelievably sweaty palms after. Just why?
fanimal Posted 13 February, 2014 Posted 13 February, 2014 Nearly felt sick, what a pair of nutters!! No harnesses, incredible. I have stayed at the Jin Mao tower hotel, the bar at the top is called Cloud 9, that feels high enough! do these guys get paid/sponsored to do these climbs?
Spudders Posted 13 February, 2014 Posted 13 February, 2014 Slightly higher than that crane climb in Southampton!!! [video=youtube;gLDYtH1RH-U]
Ric Posted 13 February, 2014 Posted 13 February, 2014 Sat at my desk, on the ground floor... I still feel ill watching that!
tpbury Posted 13 February, 2014 Posted 13 February, 2014 It isn't as bad as others, because of the cloud cover, can't see the real drop. Nevertheless, I wonder what circumstances would compel to do something as mad as that!

Wurzel Posted 13 February, 2014 Posted 13 February, 2014 Felt physically sick just watching that. my first reaction when watching any of these videos is "Why?" I understand enjoying an adrenalin rush and all that, but that is just ignoring every safety precaution going. Do these guys have a total disregard to their own survival? Having said that, I've yet to see a report of anyone falling from any of these climbs
mcjwills Posted 13 February, 2014 Posted 13 February, 2014 Think I got vertigo just watching that. Them 2 are seriously mad.
skintsaint Posted 13 February, 2014 Posted 13 February, 2014 I've been on the obv deck of that tower with the glass floors and I hate heights and didnt feel easy. Fark doing that.

View From The Top Posted 13 February, 2014 Posted 13 February, 2014 Watching that made my nuts try to climb back inside my body!
latter day saint Posted 13 February, 2014 Posted 13 February, 2014 Wish i'd read your comments before watching that! I'm not good with heights & having not long ate my tea, i thought it was coming back up Absolute nutters
ART Posted 13 February, 2014 Posted 13 February, 2014 I want a link to see them climb back down at night to avoid being seen and arrested. What complete nutters.
Suhari Posted 13 February, 2014 Posted 13 February, 2014 I'm not a fan of heights, but that was okay. Enjoyed it. The 'Dont look down' film on c4 was harder to watch. Possibly because I'm 3/4 way through a bottle Rioja to be fair, but hey....
Whitey Grandad Posted 13 February, 2014 Posted 13 February, 2014 Pillocks. What's the point? But I do have the greatest admiration for those that put all that stuff up there.
St Jim Posted 14 February, 2014 Posted 14 February, 2014 I certainly wasn't comfortable watching it (made my stomach turn) and I really don't understand why, but lets not forget that it wasstandard working conditions for some not so long ago......
OldNick Posted 14 February, 2014 Posted 14 February, 2014 Frightening, all those stairs you have to climb.....................
ART Posted 14 February, 2014 Posted 14 February, 2014 Some photos taken and more of the story. They remained up on top for 18 hours before descending!!!! http://raskalov-vit.livejournal.com/134512.html http://blogs.wsj.com/chinarealtime/2014/02/13/watch-a-secret-climb-to-the-top-of-chinas-tallest-tower/
Lazlo78 Posted 14 February, 2014 Posted 14 February, 2014 For some reason I find this worse than the russian guys - even though these are professionals using lines...
Ric Posted 14 February, 2014 Posted 14 February, 2014 For some reason I find this worse than the russian guys - even though these are professionals using lines... Well, some of the time they are - most of the climbing is still done without a line. I hope they get paid a *lot* of money for that! Also, I notice that the commentary says there's no quick way down - why not equip them with parachutes? Is a parachute too bulky for the climb and to allow them to work? Would they hit the tower on the way down before they had the slightest chance of opening the 'chute?

Would they hit the tower on the way down before they had the slightest chance of opening the 'chute? For some reason that reminds me of this: http://web.archive.org/web/20080104161307/http://www.nasm.si.edu/research/aero/aircraft/focke_achgelis.htm 'Should the U-boat came under attack and need to 'crash' dive, the pilot pulled a large red lever above the seat. This started a chain of events designed to save the submarine without sacrificing the pilot. The towline disconnected from the aircraft, freeing the submarine to dive immediately, and the spinning rotor simultaneously departed from the airframe rotor mast. As the rotors flew up and away, they pulled a cable that deployed the pilot's parachute. When parachute blossomed, the pilot popped his seat harness and the remainder of the gyrocopter fell into the sea. After the submarine evaded the threat, it could return to the surface to pick up the pilot. If time and circumstances permitted, the pilot could release the towline without triggering the entire emergency sequence. The flyer could then ditch his Fa 330 near the submarine, or attempt to land back aboard the ship. The type of threat and the speed of its approach dictated the pilot's actions.'
Jonnyboy Posted 14 February, 2014 Posted 14 February, 2014 Wasn't there a bloke a few years back who climbed the outside of tall buildings with just bare hands? He did the Eiffel tower. Like a French spider man. They should put a Go-Pro on his head for some awesome video.

Rut Posted 16 February, 2014 Posted 16 February, 2014 Is a parachute too bulky for the climb and to allow them to work? Would they hit the tower on the way down before they had the slightest chance of opening the 'chute? They can't parachute down because of all the cables that are attached to tower from the ground. Would be very hard to avoid them.
Dr. Kucho Posted 16 February, 2014 Posted 16 February, 2014 Theres something about this high rise climb/walk I like...... Think its the white trainers. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qAVqLpSxllI

Think its the white trainers. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qAVqLpSxllI Very impressive considering she can't see her own feet, and she's carrying a cameraman on her head at the same time! Still, it's good practice for the old 4-inch beam
ART Posted 26 February, 2014 Posted 26 February, 2014 Just signed up to Russia'a Facebook, VK.com and the two guys who climbed the Shanghai Tower/ The photos they post on their Timeline are phenomenal and many leave one really feeling woozy. Here are 3100 photos t start with. Breathtaking what someone so young have so far achieved. http://vk.com/raskalov?z=albums3122636
OldNick Posted 26 February, 2014 Posted 26 February, 2014 A mate is a steeple jack, whilst he does not scale the Shanghai tower he has to go out onto Salisbury cathedrals spire without harness to do work. You slide out backwards apparently.
