OK fellas... this is only a joke, but remember all those turgid threads last season about ....." how many points do we need to survive ?".

Some of you went to great lengths to look up the prev. highest, etc, etc, but for us even be discussing the prospect of a good League finish ...and a (really) outside chance of Euro football..

....doesn't the thought of already having 39 points on the board .....and with 12 games still to go ... raise a smile, and bring a sigh of relief to a few of us?

Sadly not David there are those on here who still think we will be relegated .

Personally I miss the Easter and May bank survival battles . I remember going up to crystal palace to play the wombles face paint and gazoo in hand . They were the days . I'm so pleased we are all but safe and look forward to get mid 60 odd points

There is nobody on here who thinks we are in with a remote chance of relegation. Only those who say it in order to get attention.

You're right though, it is nice being safe by the end of January. Most unlike Saints.

we've got the same points and w/d/l record as we had in 2003 after the same number of games.

We're going to wemberlee.

don't fancy the same end to our league campaign though W3 D4 L5, we need to do better than that. Turn the Ws and the Ls around and that would match my rough estimate for the last 12 games.

Yep but we were up to 4th in the league in January when we thrashed Spurs in the 3rd round. Squad not big enough to cope with games / injuries on both fronts sadly

The Dubai Saints 40 point party is already being prepared.

Cases of Heineken & OSH are being chilled. Vol-au-Vents & Sausage Rolls are being baked & a trip is being organised to the the "Hole in the Wall" out in the desert to stock up on cheap Prosecco for the Ladies.

More worried about the 60 point party. That's planned for my gaff #notenuffbeerontheplanetforthat

Agreed but I will take mid table obscurity for a couple of years before I get bored!

37 points was enough to stay up last year, I think it could be slightly higher this year but I am pretty sure we will be well above 40 points by then. It is a nice feeling to be clear of the danger zone so early in the season. Top 6 finish would be good :)

39 points is probably enough but I will only be sure when we pass the 40 mark and ideally 45 points.

So, we are almost safe, but not quite.

You must have got a little bit wet when you saw the title of this thread

We're 14 points behind a CL spot and 15 clear of relegation zone.

Does this mean we're more likely to qualify for the Champions League than get relegated? What are the odds on them?

As for where we are, even an average of a point a game puts us on 51 points, surely enough for 8th (and that would be poor form considering - IMO we will do better.)

Absolutely. I don't think there's enough points available to the teams below us for at least 10 of them to overtake us. Don't forget there'll be a lot of games between the teams in the bottom half as well so they have to drop points.

Here we go everyone. Three months of rib-tickling fun ahead of us where Dalek pretends he really thinks we need 45 points to stay up.

Don't know about you lot but I am giggling already.

Don't understand how people get upset with forum trolls when they can be as irresistibly hilarious as this. Oh my aching sides.

Let's hope we fair better than we did that season Strachan got us to safety by March. We literally stumbled along playing awful football until the season, resulting is a few horrible tonkings and us losing all confidence for the Cup final.

With any luck I might even make it there this time!

I think we went 4th a year later when we smashed Pompey 3-0 at home just before Christmas, two great memories to mix up though!!!!

The chances of us going down are so low now as to be irrelevant.

We've gone past the 'survival is our top priority' part of the season to the 'let's push on and see how high we can get part'.

Like Dalek I've been one of those that has been fixated on just getting those 40 points but in the last few days we've crossed the threshold.

I guess those old habits die hard.

Please stop quoting him not only does it feed the mindless troll and thus justify his existence it defeats the point of him being on my block list. If people just didn't respond to these muppets they would soon get bored and leave the forum or at least try and be vaguely creative with their idiocy.

I tried ignoring him but Dalek will never get bored.

He actually thinks he's hilarious.

Immediately after the Hull game he let his guard down and admitted that he thought that we wouldn't get relegated. But I see that he is now back to his hilarious old self.

Sigh, if anyone is trolling it is you. I have said that I think we are probably safe but would like to be over 40 and 45 is more than enough. There again, you are CB FRY and as everyone knows you are always right.
