Sunderland away FA CUP build up thread

I wouldn't be surprised to learn that more than a few players are carrying knocks / banged up. They may well declare themselves fit but I am not sure if they could perform to usual levels. Still, unless this game goes to a replay we're only playing on weekends from now on so lets negotiate this game with a positive result and then we should be ok.

I've been on a few Sunderland forums. Most of them dont even have a thread on this game. I found just one thread below and most of their fans wont be over bothered if they lose this one. Poyet is giving some fringe players a go too.

Rip into them from the start and this could easily be over by half time.

I still expect them to put out a pretty strong team - the likes of Giaccherini are still strong players to come in.

And also, any chance of the game being called off?
I hope if there is any danger of the game being called off they let us know in good time i.e. tonight as leaving really early in the morning. Remember getting to Newcastle once and they called the game was called off about an hour before KO.

I live up this way (Newcastle) and based on todays weather, I can't see why it would be called off. In fact, I don't think we've had any weather this winter which has been bad enough to postpone a Premier match.

I'll eat my pants if it's called off.

That was a shocker, should have been called off hours before but they left it as late as possible as it was on Sky. I remember hearing there was already around 800 Saints fans arriving in Newcastle as it was pulled.

Me too

Four of us up to Durham tongiht

Another mate in Chester Le Street and another two in Newcastle all travelling up today

I'm sure I read something about possible disruption on the Metro over the weekend, maybe TUS can advise fans staying over in Newcastle?

Weather looks better up there tomorrow so shouldn't be an issue. I've been in Sunderland with the raining going sideways all day long and standing on that old open terrace.

With it being on TV again it would take some extreme conditions to see it off.

Very true. Remember Birmingham away in the Chamiponship? No way that would have been played if it wasn't on Sky!

For anyone that is going to the match you will have a bit of a mare as there is major work going on with the metro.

The work is on the south hylton line which includes the stadium station and st Peter's.

There is a bus replacement service that is normally quite good.

But all this will add to the nightmare of a early kick off and trying to get there on time.

If anyone thinks we've got an easy run to the final they're mad. This game could be lost quite easily given it's away and the weather could be awful, plus Sunderland are no push-over. At least the thug Brown is not playing. If we win it'll be something like 2-3. Even if we get through this round, there's every chance we'll get drawn against one of the top four - not that we can't beat those teams, but it will be very tough.

Agree - got a feeling that they will do us this time and won't luck out doing so.

Anyway, I am very nervous about this game, probably the most nervous since before the Posh, Boro and Coventry games in our promotion season. This is what it is all about for me.

The old 1-3 for me.... Please. One of my best friends is a Sunderland fan and since I have known him in 2006 we have never beat them!

Gallagher playing U21 game tonight...

Southampton FC ‏@SouthamptonFC 5 min

#SaintsFCU21s team vs #WHUFC U21s: Johns, McCarthy, Stephens ©, Turnbull, Targett, Gape, Flannigan, Isgrove, Sinclair, Rowe, Gallagher.

So, no Reed or McQueen in the U21 squad tonight
