No need for them to make any changes for our game. Will be their first XI minus the suspended Brown you would think.

The same team that lost at home to Hull then who we were a class above last night.

Not sure if it's a good or bad thing Sunderland didn't play tonight, but either way, with little to play for in the league, and Us more in form than when we played them in the league, you'd think we could go on and win this. I'm being optimistic! COYS

Who has little to play for in the league?

Probably the teams that have been chronically weakened following the January transfer window. Right, Delldays?

I don't care who they pick, we are better than them and will hopefully want it more.

We may be better but Tuesday night's game will have taken it's toll and they've had a free week. I'm afraid that fatigue will be the undoing of us, too many games...too few players.

Why? Playing Tuesday, followed by a Saturday isn't too unusual for players. It's not like we've had a massive cup run or european football to contend with this year, or even have a team that plays a load of internationals.

We shall see but to me at least 3 or 4 looked dead on their feet after 80 minutes on Tuesday evening. If they can recover so much the better.

Fair enough. Which players do you think looked particularly tired?

JRod, Morgan,Corky and Shaw at the end, Davis, Lambert and Lallana before they were subbed.

Most of these players get flogged a little too much IMO although we hardly have much choice, especially with AL and JR.

As I said too many games and too few players to play in them. In reality we need some of the fringe players like Guly and Jos to be of a sufficient level to assume starting roles from time to time to give the others a break but as they're obviously bit part and last ditch part players now we have effectively 12 senior pros and 3 good youngsters (plus Gallagher perhaps) to assume

the responsibility of 2 games a week. I see that Gaston and Dejan have been ruled out for Saturday already so that leaves us with either the same starting XI + Victor or risk starting a lesser player against a side with fresh legs and a bigger squad.

Tired players at the end of tough games also risk injuries and bookings as well, Morgan got a silly booking on Tuesday because he was dead on his feet (plus an iffy pass to him). All this will mount up and we'll fade before the end of the campaign as likely as not, especially when you count in the midweek international friendlies at the start of March.

There's no reason for any of our side to be particularly tired, none have played an excessive amount of football this year.

This.

Anyone would think we had a marathon penalty shoot out defeat against Real Madrid on Tuesday, rather than a workaday run out against a fairly mediocre prem team.

I reckon we can play Tuesday - Saturday.

Perez taking the interviews this morning, surely shows we're not taking it all that seriously. I know we've done it for the previous 2 games as well though. Has anything been said anywhere about the sort of team we're going to put out? Anything other than having our best 11 possible players playing in this would be a joke.

Perez always does the Cup interviews, gives the interpreter a day off I suppose. Seeing as Mauricio did the pre and post match Hull interviews it's quite normal that Jesus steps up a bit. It was known in advance anyway, whoever was asking the question in the Hull post match knew that Mauricio wouldn't be present for the Cup pre-match because he asked questions about it during the Hull post match. Anyway why change a winning formula, worked ok for the 1st 2 rounds.

How do you draw that conclusion?

Did Ferguson not take Man United losts seriously, cause he often sent his assistant out to do interviews, you think?

I'm finding it hard to feel tooooo much sympathy with the players buzzing around in their luxury coaches and private jets, if the fans can make the effort, well. 90 mins hard graft as usual, then they can have the week off.

In my opinion, anyone who has bought a ticket for Saturday should get first dibs on any further cup ties including the big one. If things go according to plan, of course.

Anyway Mauricio was out on the training ground assessing players. I see that Fran Hunter seems to have been promoted to

working with the first team as well, that's quite recent isn't it?

Dont know about those things.

Just commented that I dont really understand when people believe there´s a connection between assistant manager doing interviews = club doesn´t take the game seriously....

Probably because the games that we have played a weakened team in are also the games that the assistant manager has conducted the media commitments.

Weakened because we rest 1 CB against team from lower division?

So who'd be up for Jesus if MP left? Might be good for continuity.

Jesus as our saviour.

But do we learn nothing from experience ? Gray, Wigley ?

Us. It's not the first post I phrased badly last night! Was very tired.

want to tell MP that we have little to play for in the league.

looks like to me that he is hell bent on winning every league game.

I can see us losing this tie.

Only reason is, group of us watching and I big us up about how good we are etc...then we **** it up. Happened twice already this season, against Stoke last week and against Sunderland away.

Stop biging us up then.

I still don't understand this panic whereby we cannot play more than 1 game a week.

Does everyone still remember the L1 and Champ days?

Morgan, Lallana, Lambert, Fonte, Cork played Tuesday > Saturday > Tuesday throughout the season, we didn't panic about fitness then. They're professional footballers supported by an excellent set-up. We're more than capable to handle 2 games a week.

Plus I think after this game (bar a replay/cancelled game due to weather) we have no more midweek games till the end of the season.

It's not about us playing 2 games in a week per se, it's about having to play an away game more than Sunderland, who have more replacements available, in the same time. We have no margin for error, they do. Plus you lose a midweek game in League 1 and it's not the end of the world, you lose a FA Cup 5th rounder and it kinda is...well as far as the cup is concerned anyway.

Posted

If we lose at Sunderland, being tired is one excuse that will not stand up to any scrutiny.

Whether we play a full strength team or not, if we play as we did v Fulham and Hull, we should take Sunderland apart.

2 games in a week.....or 3 games in 8 days to be more accurate and on this level that is a tough task if you want to use the same starting XI.
