Come on Saints! I want a trip to Wembley this season.

Boruc; Chambers Fonte Yoshida Shaw; Morgan Cork; Lallana Davis Rodriguez; Lambert.

Subs: Davis; Clyne Hooiveld; JWP Wanyama; Guly Gallagher

Will be getting there mid morning - anyone recommend any good places to park and a pub to visit near the ground preferably?

Prediction: 0-2

Sunderland dropped back into the bottom 3 last night and have City tonight so hopefully will stay there.

With a replay not wanted for them, and one final already reached and fast approaching, hopefully they won't be overly bothered about this one.

They have improved a lot of late though and it will be a tough game.

With Wes Brown already suspended we could do with them picking up a couple more knocks and suspensions tonight , anything that helps give us the advantage. I'd take a replay but fingers crossed we can nick a win up there and then look forward to the 1/4 final draw on Sunday !

Really looking forward to this, not normally bothered about cups but the competition could open up nicely with 2 of the top 4 sides left in guaranteed to be knocked out. Hopefully having an extra days rest with Sunderland playing tonight will work to our advantage. You'd think they won't want a replay so we need to go out all guns blazing like we did last time and try and kill the game off in an hour. Should be an unchanged side, Cork ran the show against them last time so has to start. I

Never been to the Stadium of Light or indeed Sunderland itself. Worst comes to the worst I'll just make a weekend of it up there, but I have a good feeling that we can get the win.
It's one of the better new grounds and near the City Centre that contains some good pubs - there are plenty of worse away days in my opinion. Can't see us having many up there at all - short-notice, on tv, very high travel costs, a lot of people had already booked to do Hull when this trip came up. Can see us getting a draw, then winning the replay.

Boruc

Clyne - Fonte - Yoshida - Shaw

Cork - Schneiderlin

Rodriguez - Davis - Lallana

Lambert

Subs: K Davis, Chambers, Wanyama, JWP, Guly, Gallagher, Jos (or Lovren if near fitness - an 80% lovren is better than Jos)

Keep a similar team, fresher legs on the right in Clyne and hope the away day passion gets us through.

As a 16th century poet might have said:

Saturday is called the feast of Southampton:

He that outlives this day, and comes safe home,

Will stand a tip-toe when this day is named,

And rouse him at the name of Southampton.

He that shall live this day, and see old age,

Will yearly on the vigil feast his neighbours,

And say 'To-morrow is Southampton Day:'

Then will he strip his sleeve and show his scars.

And say 'These wounds I had on Southampton's day.'

Old men forget: yet all shall be forgot,

But he'll remember with advantages

What feats he did that day: then shall our names.

Familiar in his mouth as household words

Lambert the king, Lallana and Rodriquez,

Schneiderlin and Cork, Fonte and Shaw,

Be in their flowing cups freshly remember'd.

This story shall the good man teach his son;

And Southampton Day shall ne'er go by,

From this day to the ending of the world,

But we in it shall be remember'd;

We few, we happy few, we band of brothers;

For he to-day that sheds his blood with me

Shall be my brother; be he ne'er so vile,

This day shall gentle his condition:

And gentlemen in England now a-bed

Shall think themselves accursed they were not here,

And hold their manhoods cheap whilst any speaks

That fought with us upon Southampton’s day.

… or, as a 20th century poet once said:

Think we might need to make a couple of changes to the starting line up, couple of the lads looked dead beat after 75 minutes last night and Morgan looked to be hobbling a bit towards the end. Perhaps we could just try Cork and Wanyama to see if it can't be made to work, it would be OK defensively but one of them would have to adapt to driving the side forward all of the time.

Nice one. If there's anywhere that does 'proper' beer then so much the better.

Neither can I, but weirdly this one's actually cheaper than West Ham for me!

Sunderland: £16 ticket, £30 petrol (£120 split four ways), £7.50 hotel (£15 room, Travelodge mates rate) = £53.50 + beer.

West Ham: £43 ticket, £10 train, £8 tube = £61 +beer.

I don't even have to drive :D

Anyone know how manys fans we've got going

We don't seem to get much info these days but if we get anything like the numbers that travelled last night it would be an excellent turn-out. All things considered I very much doubt it.

Last Monday Sunderland had only sold around 14k to home fans, they're hoping for around 20k. Understandably, they’re more concerned with Wembley the following week.

It don’t usually work this way but – it does look a good time to play Sunderland. They’ve been on a good run since coming back against us up there but that was a big setback losing at home to ‘ull on Saturday.

Relegation remains a possibility, City away tonight, hopefully a tonking if it’s not ‘hurricaned’ off, any slight knocks and none of their players are going to want to put themselves out of the final a week after our game.

Get into an early lead this time and I can’t see them having the stomach for a fightback. Get a couple ahead and they’ll need 3 to avoid a replay they desperately don’t need.

We need to get right into them from the off again.

Sunderland are away to Arsenal come Saturday week, C1C final is the week after.

That looks pretty nasty. I guess it could be Yoshida and Hooiveld Saturday then, Fonte and Lovren back in for West Ham

Aaaargh Hooiveld :(

That photo looks like it has been photoshopped. Although he was looking down at his leg at the full time whistle. Not sure when it happened though?

The Colliery Tavern opposite the stadium was friendly enough for away fans for the league cup game.

Park and ride was signposted off of Wessington way (followed the signs for the stadium from the A1m)

Was a good night out (apart from the result - hope we do better this time.)
