Crispypie Posted 11 February, 2014 Posted 11 February, 2014 Is it just me? we seem to be going for far too many long balls over the top tonight, (and against Stoke as well), what do you think?
ALWAYS_SFC Posted 11 February, 2014 Posted 11 February, 2014 Is it just me? we seem to be going for far too many long balls over the top tonight, (and against Stoke as well), what do you think? I think we have done both tonight
for_heaven's_Saint Posted 11 February, 2014 Posted 11 February, 2014 When you say used to, do you mean last week?
S-Clarke Posted 11 February, 2014 Posted 11 February, 2014 I may be watching the wrong game, but we've run at the opposition tonight? You have to also adjust to how the oppo play, and to be fair to hull, they like it in the air.
richard Posted 11 February, 2014 Posted 11 February, 2014 I think Hull have been pressing well against us tonight, has made it really hard to pass it through them.
Crispypie Posted 11 February, 2014 Author Posted 11 February, 2014 Agree we have some times been getting behind Hull, but it just doesnt feel like games in the first half of the season when Shaw and Clyne were constantly running down the lines, Clyne on Saturday rarely ran forward. I just wondered if others felt the same, I know we need to mix it up, it just seems a little unbalanced towards try9ing to knock it over the top too early. Maybe its just me.
SNSUN Posted 11 February, 2014 Posted 11 February, 2014 Why do we not score goals like we used to? :-D
saintbob40 Posted 11 February, 2014 Posted 11 February, 2014 I used to like Clyne and Punch on the right ..........
ottery st mary Posted 11 February, 2014 Posted 11 February, 2014 We don't smile like we used to:) We grin like cheshire cats:D What is wrong with us:rolleyes:

Holbury Saint Posted 13 February, 2014 Posted 13 February, 2014 I understand what the op is saying to an extent. Although we are fantastic to watch in possession, we do tend to stop and pass backwards or sideways which is very frustrating. It's all well and good having most of the possession but it's goals that win games. The way we can dictate play and our passing ability should mean us battering sides. Rather than just keeping possession we should drive forward more and get a hell of a lot more balls in to the box. A lot of the time we are not threatening sides enough and they are happy to sit back and watch us pass it around. Although it has been a joy this season, we really could and should have won so many more games. Having said that this is by far the best possession team we have had in a long long time.
70's Mike Posted 13 February, 2014 Posted 13 February, 2014 that is why we are better than Swansea , we have alternatives
skintsaint Posted 13 February, 2014 Posted 13 February, 2014 Kinda off subject, we seem more dangerous from set pieces this season, Centre backs getting on the score sheet regularly.

Possession is the first line of defense. While we have the ball our opponent can't score.....If our opponent can't score we can't lose. While we have the ball, we can create more chances. If our opponent cant score we only need to make one chance stick. If we have the ball more, our players get to take a breather between the hard pressing when we don't. Makes perfect sense to me.

Bloody loon! Far to logical for this place. ;-)
david in sweden Posted 14 February, 2014 Posted 14 February, 2014 Is it just me? we seem to be going for far too many long balls over the top tonight, (and against Stoke as well), what do you think? maybe not so easy when the opposition play with everyone in their own half and with 5-6 men in their own penalty box........
Holbury Saint Posted 14 February, 2014 Posted 14 February, 2014 I agree that possession greatly increases our chances of winning but there have been numerous times when we could and should have played the brave pass in the final third rather than the safe sideways or backwards pass. We could so easily have won so many more games when we have dominated possession.
Kingsbridge Saint Posted 15 February, 2014 Posted 15 February, 2014 What you are describing is counter attacking. The opposition have less of the ball this season hence the reduced amount of counter attacking. We seem to be doing OK though.
stu0x Posted 15 February, 2014 Posted 15 February, 2014 Possession is the first line of defense. While we have the ball our opponent can't score..... On the contrary, or opposition has scored quite a few times when Hooiveld has had the ball...
