david in sweden Posted 11 February, 2014 Share Posted 11 February, 2014 another media hype suggesting that we will buy Danny Rose from Spurs .....after we sell Luke Shaw in the summer. Spurs are rumoured to be letting him go ...well .no thanks. Over several decades we have been sold Spurs' rejects and we don't need another. However, if they do sell Rose....and they need a replacement ....they can have Danny Fox... if he doesn't settle in at Forest.
niceandfriendly Posted 11 February, 2014 Share Posted 11 February, 2014 Rose is a good player isn't he? Still would rather keep Shaw though of course. But he will go, if not this summer then next. Hopefully we get another season out of him yet.

saint1977 Posted 11 February, 2014 Share Posted 11 February, 2014 Hope we don't sell Shaw obviously but if we did for the reported £30m if he wanted to join City/Chelsea, Rose is a good player (despite some of the forum residents in 2012 who said he wasn't good enough for the PL) and if bought for a decent price would leave plenty for a new CB and maybe a striker. Ludwig Posted 11 February, 2014 Share Posted 11 February, 2014 http://www.sportsdirectnews.com/premier-league-news/40242-southampton-ponder-move-for-spurs-defender.php Would be good WITH Shaw but not instead of.
S-Clarke Posted 11 February, 2014 Share Posted 11 February, 2014 A clever and stable club will keep all options open, and will surely be collating a list of very talented left backs who will replace Shaw when he inevitably leaves. Rose is currently first choice spurs left back and has been pretty good this year.

I can see Spuds might be trying to offload him, he hasn't played since May due to a wrist injury (must be a bad wrist injury to keep someone out for 9 months). He was a decent LB who has lost his way a bit, might be a good prospect, but as I said only as backup, not instead of. Is definitely an upgrade on Fox. Batman Posted 11 February, 2014 Share Posted 11 February, 2014 if shaw goes. what player in the league would you realistically think would come in and we would be happy answer, no one

shurlock Posted 11 February, 2014 Share Posted 11 February, 2014 Weren't we heavily linked with him in 2012? Would have been a good deal then as it is now.
Ludwig Posted 11 February, 2014 Share Posted 11 February, 2014 I accept he'd be good, but we would need to sign another left back as well if Shaw goes. Who would that be?
S-Clarke Posted 11 February, 2014 Share Posted 11 February, 2014 Think Rose is terrible defensively. The Shaw replacement would probably be foreign. Can't see much in the premier league. Only decent ones we wouldn't any chance of like Baines, Kolarov or Cole. Great full backs are problems for far bigger clubs than us. Have to hope Targett is as good as some suggest. Could do worse than playing Chambers and Clyne. Several right footers have done well in the role. Always thought Enrique was alright but doesn't feature for Liverpool anymore. Is he still there, injured? He'd do a good job IMO. I think he's injured? might be wrong on that. They also have Cissoko there, who they've got on loan from Lyon - good player too IMO. If L'pool don't take up their option, i wouldn't say no.

Whereas there are positives in right sided forwards playing on the left and vice versa, I see only negatives with full backs playing on the opposite side. They can't all be Philip Lahm. angelman Posted 11 February, 2014 Share Posted 11 February, 2014 Rose is dreadful, a real weak link. Had an awful game against us, and whenever I see him on TV he is equally bad.

Chez Posted 11 February, 2014 Share Posted 11 February, 2014 if we sell our fullbacks we will take backwards step IMO, no matter what money we bring in. Quite frankly we have three of the best performing full backs in the league right now and there aren't too many decent ones out there. Just look at the players the top sides are fielding in that position: Sagna, Monreal, Cliche, Azpilicueta, Cissokho, Cole, Rafael, Evra...they could all do with a serious upgrade. People will moan if we don't spend some serious money in the summer on signings, but for me we'd be better following the Everton model and spend the money on some serious wages to keep Shaw and Clyne content with their lot. Agree. The fullbacks are so important to how we play. Tie them down with improved contracts as we'd struggle to replace them no matter what price they might go for. Plus, they are young and there's more to come from all three.
