Beckenham Saint Posted 8 February, 2014 Share Posted 8 February, 2014 http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1950214-off-to-brazil-which-southampton-players-will-play-in-world-cup-2014 Interesting article here that discusses our potential World Cup hopefuls and their chances of traveling. Would love to see Lambert go more than any of them. Think we could be represented by quite a few players this summer.
Badger Posted 8 February, 2014 Share Posted 8 February, 2014 Don't agree that Clyne has no chance, or that Rodriguez is likely to beat RL to a place in the squad after his initial display for England. Probably between RL and Carroll though. Like Beckenham I'd love to see RL part of it.
Scallysaint Posted 8 February, 2014 Share Posted 8 February, 2014 Carroll isn't half the player SRL is. It amazes me that pundits still mention them in the same breath. SRL is a far superior footballer in almost every aspect of the game.
Saint Fan CaM Posted 8 February, 2014 Share Posted 8 February, 2014 If you had to put money on Lambert or Carroll scoring from the penalty spot in a crucial game with all the pressure, I know where mine would go....and it wouldn't be Carroll. This alone places SRL above AC.

In my opinion his England career is based soley on a ridiculously inflated transfer fee that wasn't justified at the time and hasn't been since. SRL is in contention based solely on merit. He has plied his trade and performed at all levels now. That said, his recent form hasn't been great for whatever reason. Turning it on in front of Woy last week couldn't have hurt his chances though.

Turning it on in front of Woy last week couldn't have hurt his chances though. They are both vastly different types of player TBF, Lambert is a superior passer, better vision and holds the ball up much much better. Carroll is better in the air, quicker and a real battering ram (basically a new Heskey). So really it depends on which man that Woy finds a better option from off the bench. Does he want to have the ball stick and pull the midfield forward for support ? (RL) Or does he want a man to cause havoc, resort to kick and run football and attenpt to rush at an oppositions back four ? (AC) Personally I dont think AC is anywhere near as bad as gets made out, agreed his price tag was F'n rediculous, King Kenny really did get purse raped by a few teams under his watch. Itll depend on form ultimately. But Carroll hasnt cone back with the ability that he probably should have since his 'injury'
saintadjg Posted 8 February, 2014 Share Posted 8 February, 2014 Carroll never showed any real ability before his injury.
Beckenham Saint Posted 8 February, 2014 Author Share Posted 8 February, 2014 Don't agree that Clyne has no chance, or that Rodriguez is likely to beat RL to a place in the squad after his initial display for England. I think that J-Rod's England game could be used as an argument against his inclusion in the squad, although he is making a great case for himself in the league this year. Lambert making a very strong case for himself. Think clyne has the least chance of the group of breaking into the England squad in time.

Clynes case has been made stronger due to the injury to Johnson, but it depends how Woy wants to play, if he wants attacking full backs then itll be Clyne and Walker on the plane. If he is looking for two differing options then Ill expect it to be Walker and Jones/Smalling (who also can play CB) Jay Rod is very much making a case for himself as far as the WC is concerned, but its going to be dependant on how he plays in the upcoming friendly and on Welbecks form (dont think there is much between Welbeck and Jay right now but Welbecks never let down in an England shirt) RL has the best chance, but Ive explained my thoughts on him vs carroll above.
