Hagiology Books Back in the Club Shop!

Recommended Posts

Pleased to say if you want to buy "All the Saints", or any other books from the Hagiology back catalogue they will be available as from tomorrow lunch-time from the stadium club shop. "Suited and Booted" will also be on sale at a special offer of a tenner.

Meanwhile if anyone can pick up a book from Otterbourne, Eastleigh or Bristol then we have copies of "All the Saints" autographed by Matt Le Tissier available for £30. Contact me on Duncan@duncanholley.co.uk

Also if you get a chance, pick up the Football Echo tomorrow if you like a murder mystery. I have written a recently discovered tale of a Saints player who committed murder and escaped the gallows.

Finally here is a review of "All the Saints" from "Back Pass" magazine

ALL THE SAINTS, A COMPLETE PLAYERS’ WHO’S WHO OF SOUTHAMPTON FC by Gary

Chalk, Duncan Holley and David Bull (Hagiology Publishing, £35).

IT DOESN’T happen very often, but every now and then a football book

comes along that takes your breath away. Rarely are such treasures a

tome devoted to one club. But All the Saints is no ordinary football

book.

Gary Chalk, Duncan Holley and David Bull have produced what is

undoubtedly one of the most exhaustive and forensic examples of the

Who’s Who genre.

Given the multi-millions swishing around the top tier of the game these

days, every leading club should commission such a book to both

acknowledge and preserve their heritage, but don’t hold your breath

waiting for it to happen.

All The Saints has been a couple of decades in the making, though the

real work has been concentrated in the past four years, and it is full

of hidden gems. Brilliantly researched, lavishly and cleverly

illustrated, and written with real affinity for the club and its

players, Messrs Chalk, Holley and Bull have come up with something

very, very special.

At £35, some will say it is not cheap. In truth, it is a snip at that

price. Every Southampton supporter should buy it. So should every

football statistician and historian. And every club chairman should be

made to purchase All the Saints, if only to use it as a template for

their own club to copy.

FF, care to share with us on how this came about, and discussions with the club ?

Obviously it is tied in with the departure of one person, but I doubt the new regime have asked you to be bound by any non-disclosure agreements as once might have been the case.

Calm down you old tart.

Nah, "queen" would have been funnier. You fail at t'interweb warz.

Great news though Duncan, I know it's a big win for you and all these small things (parking, book in the shop, Benali, players on loan etc.), bit by bit, indicate that the owner and new directorship really do have the best interest of the fans and club at heart - in my humble opinion anyway.

Hey, I used to get irritated by the snipes at the club and back and forth over this book, but am glad to see this stocked in the shop.

It's really relative to the club and only right that people who do work for the club (the club historian for e.g) get something in return.

All the best with the book and I will take a look next time I am down at St. Mary's.

It's a good bet but this one goes back a bit :)

Scottish, early 1900s, not Danny Fox.

Was helping one of the family trace his ancestry a few weeks back. There is still mystery about what eventually happened to him, perhaps you have found out. Will see if I can grab a copy of the Echo tomorrow somehow (will it be in the online version?)

great news........why are there so many p****s on here though? And you know exactly who you are.

Finally seems like the club wants to have better comms with the fans (and businesses) and that can only be a good thing. Those saying they don't care about this sort of thing they only care about results need only look down the road and see where that mentality ended up.

As a bit of a stats. nerd myself, I found both... In that Number AND All The Saints to be quite invaluable .....for several reasons.

A quiet perusal of some of the club's history might deter a few people from starting up those more outrageous threads on here.... time, and time and time again.

Once again, many thanks to the authors. Nice job fellas.

So which four players do you link with those kits????

My instant responses were:

Phil Boyer

Dave Armstrong

Glenn Cockerill

Ricky Lambert

with regards the book, glad to see the decision reversed and hopefully a few more will be shifted to ensure the Hagiology guys don't end up out of pocket, as they provide a sterling service to many supporters and the Club itself.

Phil Boyer/ Chris Nicholl runs him a close second

Kevin Keegan

Glenn Cockerill

Last season's kit : Ricky Lambert

This season's : Adam Lallana

MLT - unfortunately for him - had his best days in that awful Pony tick.

Mick Channon : umbro conventional stripes, c1975.

Hi Duncan, would it be possible buy an up to date copy of All the Saints? I think some of the player info is out of date since publication

It takes months, if not years, to write and publish a book like this, they cannot simply update it every time someone makes an appearance! It is very up to date anyway, with mid-season players making appearances included, and any info on new players will be online anyway.

Andre - ta for your support but people like Dig Dog or whatever his name is and CB Fry are just pathetic trolls that hide anonymously behind a computer screen insulting fans for some kind of sexual or deviant satisfaction. I should ignore them but sometimes I can't resist letting them know how truly yellow bellied they are. If one of them posted under his (or her) real name at least you could offer them a modicum of respect.

Anyway whoever posted the picture many thanks I have texted Matt to show him.

I posted a throwaway gag that you have taken umbridge at. Get a sense of humour.

How it insulted you or anyone I will never know.

I'm delighted your book is back in, especially as the whole episode demonstrates what a bellend that Italian was.

But your self righteousness here is a clear demonstration of why Nicola had so little time for you.

Got to say this post gave me the biggest LOL on this thread.
