S-Clarke Posted 4 February, 2014 Posted 4 February, 2014 http://www.swanseacity.net/news/article/ml-leaves-1340293.aspx Confirmed. Gary Monk takes over. What the actual ****? Relegated I reckon...
Matthew Le God Posted 4 February, 2014 Posted 4 February, 2014 Apparently..... http://www.swanseacity.net/news/article/ml-leaves-1340293.aspx

S-Clarke Posted 4 February, 2014 Posted 4 February, 2014 not on BBC yet , where did you hear or see this ? It's on their OS, official. Gary Monk is their new manager.
Badger Posted 4 February, 2014 Posted 4 February, 2014 http://www.swanseacity.net/news/article/ml-leaves-1340293.aspx fairly reliable source then...

Saint Charlie Posted 4 February, 2014 Posted 4 February, 2014 Was thinking the other day how good it would be if we sacked Poch and gave Jos the job.
bender Posted 4 February, 2014 Posted 4 February, 2014 Just heard this on BBC sport. Confirmed on SSN. Gary Monk you say? I remember in 2000 going to Ayia Napa and spending loads of time chatting to Keven Davies, James BT, Dean Richards (RIP) and Hassan Kachloul. Monk was there although I had no idea he was a Saints player.
Saint J 77 Posted 4 February, 2014 Posted 4 February, 2014 That's a crazy move. Who can they expect to come in and do a better job at this point of the season? If they get the appointment wrong they could end up relegated.
Turkish Posted 4 February, 2014 Posted 4 February, 2014 Monk as manager? I guess that's Chico Flores out the door then.
S-Clarke Posted 4 February, 2014 Posted 4 February, 2014 That's a crazy move. Who can they expect to come in and do a better job at this point of the season? If they get the appointment wrong they could end up relegated. They've appointed Gary Monk. He is their manager for the foreseable.
Le Timmier Posted 4 February, 2014 Posted 4 February, 2014 That's a crazy move. Who can they expect to come in and do a better job at this point of the season? If they get the appointment wrong they could end up relegated. Garry Monk is the new Tim Sherwood

CB Fry Posted 4 February, 2014 Posted 4 February, 2014 Potential Poch successor ready to go in the summer, then. Laudrop I mean. Not Garry Monk.
LGTL Posted 4 February, 2014 Posted 4 February, 2014 More to this than meets the eye I suspect. Swansea are hardly known for being trigger happy and there has been talk of Laudrup wanting to leave for months.
Le Timmier Posted 4 February, 2014 Posted 4 February, 2014 Potential Poch successor ready to go in the summer, then. Didn't Spurs want to poach Laudrup before they decided they'd rather poach MoPo? If Laudrup's still available in the summer it could be good news for us...
Batman Posted 4 February, 2014 Posted 4 February, 2014 Laudrup will still get a very decent job in the summer. They have been poor this season. But winning a trophy at Swansea with their style of football was an excellent achievement. Guess Michu being out so much has hurt them along with the Europa league.
Gorgiesaint Posted 4 February, 2014 Posted 4 February, 2014 Monk was announced a few hours ago as joining the coaching staff, the bookies weren't wrong in responding by cutting Laudrup to 4/7 as next manager to go. Not the position that you want to be in ahead of the local derby against Cardiff at the weekend with their opponents in the bottom 3 and your own team quietly dropping into that relegation battle. Massive risk by Swansea to do that just after the transfer window closes, could see them heading down now.
jayrivers Posted 4 February, 2014 Posted 4 February, 2014 Jenkins added: "It is the first time in nearly 10 years that the club has parted with a manager in this way, but we had to remove the constant uncertainty surrounding the club and Michael's long-term future with us. "I had a meeting with Michael today in a final attempt to support him and establish a way to improve the work of the backroom team to secure the results we need over the final 14 Premier League games. "However, after thinking long and hard about the best way forward, I felt it was unlikely we would achieve a stable environment at the club to allow us to get back to basics and produce the performance levels that have served Swansea City so well over the last few years. "Now we need to put that uncertainty behind us and move forward as a united football club on all fronts, while placing on record our gratitude to Michael for the work he has done over the last 18 months and wish him well for the future.'' Sounds like there was something more going on then?
nta786 Posted 4 February, 2014 Posted 4 February, 2014 Deffo 100% related to Saints Anyway, poor decision, and one which could definitely backfire. I always say that if a replacement is not lined up straight away, 9 times out of 10 it is a poor decision.
Patrick Bateman Posted 4 February, 2014 Posted 4 February, 2014 Mental decision to "part company" with Laudrup ... but whatever floats their boat. However, how the hell is Gary Monk old enough to manage a club? That's the most offensive thing, that's made me feel ancient - more so than Beattie managing. B*gger.
Saint J 77 Posted 4 February, 2014 Posted 4 February, 2014 (edited) They've appointed Gary Monk. He is their manager for the foreseable. Garry Monk is the new Tim Sherwood Well I guess there is always a chance he could surprise a few people. I guess he knows the team and the players but if I supported Swansea I think I'd be very unhappy with that appointment. Edited 4 February, 2014 by Saint J 77
angelman Posted 4 February, 2014 Posted 4 February, 2014 Spurs may well want MoPo, but Club Call's www (i know, I know) say that Real Madrid are sniffing him out if they don't get silver ware this season.
Matthew Le God Posted 4 February, 2014 Posted 4 February, 2014 I think this is the key part of the Swansea statement... we had to remove the constant uncertainty surrounding the club and Michael’s long-term future with us He looked like he was going to leave in the summer, his heart wasn't in it anymore and that was possibly affecting team performances which haven't been good lately. They've been on the slide ever since the League Cup win.
Danish Saint Posted 4 February, 2014 Posted 4 February, 2014 Problems with signings and transfers.... Laudrups agent, Bayram Tutumlo, has had several hats with the signing of Pablo Hernandez as the latest.
Big Dick Last Posted 4 February, 2014 Posted 4 February, 2014 Let's put a cheeky bid in for Michu in the summer. Would be a nice touch.
Chewy Posted 4 February, 2014 Posted 4 February, 2014 Very, very strange on the face of it. There have been whispers of discontent, and changing the back room staff today (while laudrop was away in Paris I believe ... For what reason?) made things look ominous, but I didn't see this coming, at least not now. Why not wait until the end of the season and / or you have a proper replacement lined up? Reading between the lines I guess Swansea felt laudrop wasn't likely to stay past this season, but it looks a bit like cutting their own nose off to me. They could very well regret this decision big time come May.
Batman Posted 4 February, 2014 Posted 4 February, 2014 (edited) Sat evening against Cardiff on telly. Going to be a great spectacle Currently listening to the guardians football podcast that came out earlier. They touch on how Swansea have lost their fizz and that the manager could well lose his job. Also how baffled they are with their transfer policy Edited 4 February, 2014 by Batman
DuncanRG Posted 4 February, 2014 Posted 4 February, 2014 And here was me thinking they were one of the more sensibly-run clubs. Of course, this might well have been the right decision in the circumstances. Something hasn't been right there for a while.
Matthew Le God Posted 4 February, 2014 Posted 4 February, 2014 Chico Flores now has to take orders from Gary Monk. http://www.theguardian.com/football/2014/jan/21/swansea-police-row-monk-flores
Bewildered Posted 4 February, 2014 Posted 4 February, 2014 Laudrup managerial history Brondby (quit) Getafe (quit) Spartak (sacked) Mallorca (quit) Swansea (sacked, with heavy speculation he was going to quit in the summer anyway) Sounds like a bit of a flake to me.
No 2 to Maybush Posted 4 February, 2014 Posted 4 February, 2014 I think this is the key part of the Swansea statement... He looked like he was going to leave in the summer, his heart wasn't in it anymore and that was possibly affecting team performances which haven't been good lately. They've been on the slide ever since the League Cup win. This. Working in Swansea, I heard this has been festering since the summer and has had something to do with Laudrup's agent and transfers. Heard at the weekend Laudrup was not even coaching the first team anymore, telling them " you're professional footballers, you know what to do". Source - connected Swan fan.
Gorgiesaint Posted 4 February, 2014 Posted 4 February, 2014 Very, very strange on the face of it. Reading between the lines I guess Swansea felt laudrop wasn't likely to stay past this season, but it looks a bit like cutting their own nose off to me. They could very well regret this decision big time come May. Reading between the lines.... Their form in the last 10 as per BBC is 1W 3D 6L. The Chairman /board has wanted the strengthen on the coaching side by adding Gary Monk (possibly with a view to the summer), Laudrup has told him not to change anything and said if you do then sack me. So he has....
Baird of the land Posted 4 February, 2014 Posted 4 February, 2014 The move to remove his back room staff seemed fishy. I doubt laudrup was happy and they've gone for the nuclear option. Really hope saints don't end up in a similar position and we can keep potchettino and build on his initial success.
jayrivers Posted 4 February, 2014 Posted 4 February, 2014 I don't buy the - why not wait until the summar argument. They are on a terrible run at the moment, and if Laudrup had decided he was going to go, is he really going to care about turning it around...? I think if they kept him and the above is assumed they were probably heading towards relegation anyway
norwaysaint Posted 4 February, 2014 Posted 4 February, 2014 So odd seeing Garry Monk becoming a regular premier league player and now manager, after so many years as an unused sub at saints. I think I might put some money on Aaron Martin going on to captain and manage Wrexham in the PL in ten years.
St.Jeweller Posted 4 February, 2014 Posted 4 February, 2014 So only just over a year of Mo Po's reign he has become about the 4th or 5th longest serving Premiership manager, funny old game!!
John Cool Posted 4 February, 2014 Posted 4 February, 2014 I remember watching Garry Monk play for Saints. Can't claim to have said "this guy will be a Premier League manager one day" - more likely to have made some tacky comment about Cockney rhyming slang.
Danish Saint Posted 4 February, 2014 Posted 4 February, 2014 Laudrup managerial history Brondby (quit) Getafe (quit) Spartak (sacked) Mallorca (quit) Swansea (sacked, with heavy speculation he was going to quit in the summer anyway) Sounds like a bit of a flake to me. How else would a manager leave a club? I do agree with you that the length of stay at each club has been relatively short and the root of the problem at each club has been transfer policy.
S-Clarke Posted 4 February, 2014 Posted 4 February, 2014 Chico Flores now has to take orders from Gary Monk. http://www.theguardian.com/football/2014/jan/21/swansea-police-row-monk-flores Will probably help swansea if he's dropped. Arguably one of the worst CBs in the premier league.
diggers Posted 4 February, 2014 Posted 4 February, 2014 Met Gary a few times and always seems a really decent lad, bet he's not got his FA badges yet so thats going to be an issue.
