Saint Charlie Posted 6 February, 2014 Share Posted 6 February, 2014 Suprised there is so much chat about this from WHU. End of the day, he was lucky his swing was slightly off target as otherwise might have smashed Flores' nose. The intention was obvious, hence the red card being justified. Really hope they go down. Shroppie Posted 6 February, 2014 Share Posted 6 February, 2014 Their comment is that because commentators and 80% of the media were on their side, they must be right. Very dangerous attitude if you start to believe what your friends in the media say. would they produce MOTD footage as evidence? What a precedent that would be. Could this mean any red card judged to be a mistake on MOTD should be overturned? The whole idea is just ridiculous.
Jimmy_D Posted 6 February, 2014 Share Posted 6 February, 2014 Aye, Flores was wrong to react the way he did, but even if he hadn't reacted at all, and Carroll had missed completely, it can still be interpreted as a red by today's rules. Maybe it wouldn't have been given in the first place in that case, but since it was, the FA has no grounds to overturn it.
Whitey Grandad Posted 6 February, 2014 Share Posted 6 February, 2014 There's no chance of reversing the decision now. If they did all the refs would hang up their boots.
scotty Posted 6 February, 2014 Share Posted 6 February, 2014 Am I alone in chortling loudly at those horrible chancers gold and sullivan squirming? Now they've somehow managed to blag a massive stadium at public expense, I can't wait to see them try to fill it in the 2nd division. Maybe they could groundshare with pompey, they're about the same level of c*ntishness.

Saint-Armstrong Posted 6 February, 2014 Share Posted 6 February, 2014 Carroll knew what he was doing. Gritted teeth too, which generall suggests aggressive intent. For what it's worth, I'd say... red for Carroll's action. However, Flores' reaction was poor and he should have been disciplined too.
Um Bongo Posted 6 February, 2014 Share Posted 6 February, 2014 I think it's harsh. I mean it's not like Carroll has done something like this before...Oh wait.... He's got an anger problem and I'm glad he's not playing against us. West Ham know how important he is to their chances of staying up. Three big games for them and to have him missing is a massive blow.

whelk Posted 7 February, 2014 Share Posted 7 February, 2014 FA bowing to West Ham after fear of going to High Court giving them an arbitration hearing. Slippery slope and looks like he will get it rescinded. I used to like West ham but so want them to go down now.
Saint Charlie Posted 7 February, 2014 Share Posted 7 February, 2014 Will be a joke if the FA cave in to a bit of pressure. Nothing to suggest Carroll didnt try to wallop Flores, he just didnt connect very well.

Hedgehog Posted 7 February, 2014 Share Posted 7 February, 2014 If it is rescinded I hope they take note of every time he goes down as though shot for the slightest contact, which for a big man he does go down a lot, that the FA are able to throw the book at him. I think West Ham are being a bit hypocritical here.

If they bow to West Ham and not us, I think there is cause. It's pretty clear it's a red, and worse decisions have not been looked into previously. CB Fry Posted 7 February, 2014 Share Posted 7 February, 2014 It won't get recinded. The court of arbitration for sport process would probably take until November. It's not like they can overturn it next week. Just pointless posturing from WHU. Much like us with Clattenberg/Lallana.

Sheaf Saint Posted 7 February, 2014 Share Posted 7 February, 2014 You have to laugh. They were clearly pinning all their survival hopes on him finding some form after returning from injury, and almost immediately he gets himself suspended for three games. If it was anybody else they would have just accepted the FA ruling and moved on. He thought he was being cute and clever, deliberately swinging his arm at Flores but trying to make it look like it was unintentional, but as people have already noted it is the facial expression that gives it away. As for Flores' play-acting though - what a prize c*nt.

Saint Charlie Posted 7 February, 2014 Share Posted 7 February, 2014 Correct decision, the intent was there even if contact wasn't. They should be wondering why Carroll, knowing how key he is to them, felt the need to react like that at 2-0 up.

beatlesaint Posted 7 February, 2014 Share Posted 7 February, 2014 If they had gone back on it then the number one ref in the world would have looked silly and more importantly every club would have tried it, that or saying they don't want certain refs who say things to one of their England players.....oh, whoops :-(
Olallana Posted 7 February, 2014 Share Posted 7 February, 2014 To put it in some sort of perspective to other leagues. I dont know if it´s true but the referee that sent off Ronaldo got suspended one month according to twitter sources (yes I know...) Still Ronaldo got his 3 game suspension too......
