Master Bates Posted 17 December, 2008 Share Posted 17 December, 2008 I thought we were told at the begining of the season that the capacity with the corners closed was 26k. This also includes the corporates and there's no discount on corp packages and therefore I can't see there being any more in there than usual. :smt102
londonsaint1604 Posted 17 December, 2008 Share Posted 17 December, 2008 He doeth protest too much methinks... I think he was just clarifying his original point which was (if i remember correctly) that Mcgoldrick scored a few goals in pre-season and showed some potential, therefore he deserved to be given a chance and he might get a few goals. To be fair he scored against Cardiff on the first day and then got the winner against Derby and later Preston, although he has been a disappointment overall. This is with the corners closed and that they expect to be opening at least once corder as the week progresses.

Maybe for next season, where would the money come from to compensate season ticket holders? Games should be £15 for everybody regardless of status or age IMHO, better to sell out than play in a half empty stadium.

saintwarwick Posted 17 December, 2008 Share Posted 17 December, 2008 The corners only hold about 1,000 ish, so...... 32,000ish stadium minus 4x1,000ish corners = 28k ish Only three corners are closed as the family one has stayed open but it will be good if we can open all three again and get a full house which looks a possibility. When you are on a restricted budget you target specific games at specific pricing. Just because you may get a sell out at a particular game does not mean that would replicate for several others in succession at the same pricing structure. Equally if we start winning consistently fans will find the money even at the current price structure. Fans would be prepared to take the financial cuts elsewhere if the team and results could generate that passion. But when you are not doing so well, many would pay just for the pain to go away, let alone not attending. David Luker is a smart guy and I am sure they will increase the frequency of the cheapies to see if it has legs in the long run. We have to maximise revenue from gate receipts and we have already seen from the significant lowering of season ticket pricing, that gate revenue was hit significantly. I think you are right to a certain extent but I am convinced that the attendances would not have been so poor this season if we had dropped the ticket price. At say £20 (just MHO) the average would have been nearer the 20,000 mark than the 15,000 we are currently seeing.
lordswoodsaints Posted 18 December, 2008 Share Posted 18 December, 2008 didnt they say yesterday that forest had been given an extra 500 tickets and they are expecting a crowd of just under 30K with the corners opening? i should imagine there would be a big walk up as well so 30k is realistic. i think the linked tickets (manu) were only about 1k punters so i would put the large crowd more down to cheap tickets coupled with a non desire to go christmas shopping witht the mrs. EFM Posted 18 December, 2008 Share Posted 18 December, 2008 Fantastic! Please don't anyone call those returning Saints fans "plastics" just because the tickets are cheap - they wouldn't shell out even £15 if they weren't true fans. I really hope the team can put on a performance to entice a lot of them back more regularly and that the atmosphere is amazing. I'm sure someone has done all the calculations but surely this is better than 15,000 at full price? Even if it doesn't produce much more revenue it will be a huge boost to the players (and peripheral sales).

Wes Tender Posted 18 December, 2008 Share Posted 18 December, 2008 I couldn't buy 2 tickets anywhere adjacent to each other in the Northam midday. I had to settle with two together in block 5 the Itchen, one directly in front of the other. It just goes to prove what I have suspected for some time; there is an optimum price that can be charged that will encourage better attendances and that if that price is seriously breached, people will not consider it value and numbers will drop, unless the team is winning regularly. Seemingly the board have not had the imagination to attempt to find what that price is until now. They have reasoned that as we were prepared to pay £26 for a Premiership match, that we would be prepared to pay the same to watch the youngsters, because we are fans, aren't we? bungle Posted 18 December, 2008 Share Posted 18 December, 2008 Bradford did a scheme this year where if a certain number of people put money down for a ST then it would be that price (I think it may have been 10k at £150, but don't quote me on it). They sold them at League 2 level. I'd love to see more clubs do that. For example if Saints said at £200-250 we need 16k ST holders, it would be interesting to see if we got the required number of people. Considering the amount of spare capacity we have, I'd love to see us have a go.

saintwarwick Posted 18 December, 2008 Share Posted 18 December, 2008 (edited) yes they would have to do some kind of system so that the season ticket holders dont get ripped off. what does it work out you have paid per game out of interest? Mine works out at £16.52 per game, if they charged £15.00 per game for the rest of the season (12 games) it means I will have forked out an extra £18.24, however I have saved a lot more over the previous 11 games even if the results have been sh1te. What they could do is charge £15.00 per game for the rest of the season and offer season ticket holders a gift from the megastore for a value of £20.00-£25.00. That will cost the club about a quarter of a million but they be should be able to recoup that due to higher crowds (results pending) and spending in the concourse and megastore. Just realised not everybody purchased at the early bird offer so I would imagine the gift idea would have to bear in mind who purchased when and at what price . Edited 18 December, 2008 by saintwarwick As explained above.

As it happens it looks close to a sell out which can only be a good thing money wise so hopefully they will learn from it but we have to win the game if we want the supporters to return.
