Fitzhugh Fella Posted 30 January, 2014 Posted 30 January, 2014 Pat Parker, Saints centre-half between 1951 and 1959 has sadly passed away on Tuesday 28th. He played 145 games for Saints and despite being a Devonian remained in Southampton after football. The last time I saw Pat was the summer before last when despite being in a wheelchair he came to West Quay for one of Terry Paine's "Suited and Booted" signings. He was so pleased to see his ex-playing colleague. A lovely approachable gentleman, my thoughts go out to his family.
Ohio Saint Posted 30 January, 2014 Posted 30 January, 2014 RIP Pat. Before my time, but a Saint, for sure.
judgey Posted 30 January, 2014 Posted 30 January, 2014 Sad news. As a boy / teenager I lived in the next road to Pat and his family. My brother was a friend of Pat's son. We managed to get Pat to take training with our football team a couple of times - he was brilliant, a natural coach and a very lovely man.
Colinjb Posted 30 January, 2014 Posted 30 January, 2014 Another Saint in heaven. Seems to be happening all too frequently at the moment. Condolences to his family and friends.
Norm Posted 30 January, 2014 Posted 30 January, 2014 I first saw Pat play in 1956. I met him a couple of times many years ago, really nice man. RIP Pat.
derry Posted 31 January, 2014 Posted 31 January, 2014 Good centre back, coached the youth and scouted. I might be wrong but I thought he played for and managed Cowes. RIP Pat.
solentstars Posted 31 January, 2014 Posted 31 January, 2014 Rip even though it was before my time. Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk
tpbury Posted 1 February, 2014 Posted 1 February, 2014 Good innings, I think? Cheerio Pat, my Dad would've known about you.
9-3 Posted 1 February, 2014 Posted 1 February, 2014 A lovely moment when Pat arrived in wheelchair and caught Terry Paine's eye at Suited and Booted launch.
Teddy Nutkins Posted 3 February, 2014 Posted 3 February, 2014 Good centre back, coached the youth and scouted. I might be wrong but I thought he played for and managed Cowes. RIP Pat. Yes you are right Dave,he tried to get me to go over and play for them.Lovely bloke.RIP Pat.
Fitzhugh Fella Posted 3 February, 2014 Author Posted 3 February, 2014 Pat’s funeral is at St Boniface Church in Shirley at 12 noon on Tuesday, 11 February.
spyinthesky Posted 3 February, 2014 Posted 3 February, 2014 Yes you are right Dave,he tried to get me to go over and play for them.Lovely bloke.RIP Pat. I remember playing against Cowes when they were a decent Hampshire League team Pat Parker was an elder statesman centre half. Quite lanky if I remember correctly and, as mentioned, a real gentleman. Think Cowes played in red & white stripes at the time RIP Pat
