Minty Posted 14 February, 2014 Share Posted 14 February, 2014 The brightest news amid all this rain is the sight of a magician failing to make the water disappear, in this video. I see they've has fallen for the same misguided information about dredging that I referred to earlier. And he gets mainstream time on telly to spread it. Marvellous. Smirking_Saint Posted 14 February, 2014 Share Posted 14 February, 2014 Not sure why anyone is to blame here. No one could have predicted the scale and length of this period of weather. This really Ok, maybe some can be blamed for a lack of proaction but jesus, lets get real, this period of weather is like nothing certainly I have ever known

Every once in a while things like this happen and the public in general are then out for blood.
Jonnyboy Posted 14 February, 2014 Share Posted 14 February, 2014 Where arê the animal welfare groups ? all those voles , hedgehogs etc who have drowned in these floods . I don't hear any rescue being undertaken . People are not the only ones to suffer these floods . How many 10s of millions of pounds did they spend killing about 900 badgers? Floods probably killed as many.

I cant confirm its accuracy but Im sure I read somewhere that these floods arent even as bad as those in 2007 ?
bristolsaint29 Posted 14 February, 2014 Share Posted 14 February, 2014 One thing you cant fault in this is good old british backbone and support. Managed to rally a loar of volunteers to help sandbag in moorland on the somerset levels. Also just rang a haulage company to see if they can help or offer any support for helping move some clothes and food aid and they have just lent me an articulated lorry and driver. dubai_phil Posted 14 February, 2014 Share Posted 14 February, 2014 So. Could the problems in California, which are being caused by a 2,000 mile ridge of High Pressure in the PACIFIC be causing the problems in the UK? Somebody somewhere needs to stop being all Hollywood Disaster Movie with the News and start to explain what IS actually happening with Interconnected weather systems. Sod the Global Warming/Climate Change politicis & gravy train, what is going on with the weather at the moment? IF this resilient ridge is around - Why? For how long? Will that continue to cause strange weather patterns? Should THIS impact short term decisions NOW on Flood Defences? http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/northamerica/usa/10638983/The-new-Dust-Bowl-epochal-drought-hits-Californias-Central-Valley.html For California this is the third year of little or no rain. More than 90 per cent of the state is in “severe to exceptional drought”. Records have been kept since the 1840s and last year was the driest yet. Some farm areas received less rain than Death Valley in 2013. The Central Valley town of Hanford got 1.99 inches instead of its usual 10 inches. The immediate cause of the drought is a 2,000-mile long area of high pressure which has been sitting off the US West Coast for more than a year refusing to budge. Meteorologists have dubbed it the “Ridiculously Resilient Ridge”. It has deflected storms around the Golden State, contributing to recent freezing conditions. Saint-Armstrong Posted 16 February, 2014 Share Posted 16 February, 2014 In response to the complaint about International Aid and the European Union, there is a solidarity fund for these instances. However, the UK government have not filed the application for support. Many of them didn't even know it existed, apparently. Or is this because it gives anti-EU Cameron an opportunity to curry favour in the lead up to the election having bashed the EU for years? Mark Rutte, the Dutch PM, has offered specialist equipment and support. Strangely, Cameron has not accepted it.

Not surprised the trouble is we had 30 years of misinformation from the Tory lapdog papers from nonsence stories. To think some people voting ukip with all the lunatics that party possess is the answer to our ills suggest we are starting to live in a fantasy land . View From The Top Posted 16 February, 2014 Share Posted 16 February, 2014 Out on the bike today along by the river Seven. It was very high still but I've seen it higher. An awful lot of water still pouring off the fields in some of the higher land.
