mynameisthehulk Posted 29 January, 2014 Author Posted 29 January, 2014 Why does monosyllabic have so many syllables? So that no one can use it to describe themselves?
Whitey Grandad Posted 29 January, 2014 Posted 29 January, 2014 So that no one can use it to describe themselves? Yep
Andre Posted 29 January, 2014 Posted 29 January, 2014 Sorry, perhaps I was not clear enough. I have not in anyway suggested that Peter Shilton should not be on the banner - In fact I saw Shilton play for us and can confirm he was fantastic, however in my opinion (IMO in case that is what was causing you to become confused?) Adam Lallana deserves to be on the banner more than him if it is to be considered a gallery of legends, a hall of fame if you will. I have based this opinion on the fact that he has been with us from the time we were relegated from the Premier League, through the relegation from the Championship and administration all the way back again through the consecutive promotions. Now he is playing consistently well for us in the top half of the Premier League and looks to be nailed on to play for England in the World Cup. Shilton, although an excellent player and an international superstar did not in display the same level of commitment and loyalty as our current captain. Does that help you to understand my original post now or do I need to be monosyllabic in order to assist you further? Thanks for the response... until the dig at the end. My response, ironically... yes. Okay. Get 'im on there.
hypochondriac Posted 29 January, 2014 Posted 29 January, 2014 I thought it was a time line of players which defined their respective eras. Using that criteria I think the choices in there are good and maybe Adam should be on there once rickie retired.
mynameisthehulk Posted 29 January, 2014 Author Posted 29 January, 2014 Keegan, Shilton and Channon all played around the same time? I thought it was a time line of players which defined their respective eras. Using that criteria I think the choices in there are good and maybe Adam should be on there once rickie retired.
Lighthouse Posted 30 January, 2014 Posted 30 January, 2014 As good as Keegan was, he had already made his name elsewhere before he joined us and only stayed for 2 seasons. I think if we're going for iconic figures who define Saints there are better out there, even if it was a massive signing at the time.
mynameisthehulk Posted 3 June, 2014 Author Posted 3 June, 2014 I apologise for this one. I stand by the salad dodger stuff though. Sent from my LG-D802 using Tapatalk
sadoldgit Posted 3 June, 2014 Posted 3 June, 2014 Ron Davies certainly. Keegan yes for the fact that he is the only European Footballer of the Year to play for Saints. Adam Lallana no thanks. Rickie represents the current era better than any other.
Cascadia Saint Posted 3 June, 2014 Posted 3 June, 2014 Why are we squabbling? There's room for about 15 more. If you have a 27inch iMac that is. Still no room for Gazza though.
St Chalet Posted 3 June, 2014 Posted 3 June, 2014 Why are we squabbling? There's room for about 15 more. If you have a 27inch iMac that is. Still no room for Gazza though. Or Lallana's ego. He wouldn't want to be next to any inferior players.

Hatch Posted 2 September, 2014 Posted 2 September, 2014 We have a current Liverpool player in the banner. (or current Liverpool 5th Choice player in the banner)
The Cat Posted 2 September, 2014 Posted 2 September, 2014 We have a current Liverpool player in the banner. (or current Liverpool 5th Choice player in the banner) Plus his shoulder is in front of Matty's which makes him look more important. Pah.
Colinjb Posted 2 September, 2014 Posted 2 September, 2014 We have a current Liverpool player in the banner. (or current Liverpool 5th Choice player in the banner) We also have a Man Utd player, Derby, Leicester and Forest Player, A player for Eastleigh and a Hereford United player in the banner.
for_heaven's_Saint Posted 2 September, 2014 Posted 2 September, 2014 We also have a Man Utd player, Derby, Leicester and Forest Player, A player for Eastleigh and a Hereford United player in the banner. And Pompey!
red&white56 Posted 2 September, 2014 Posted 2 September, 2014 We have a current Liverpool player in the banner. (or current Liverpool 5th Choice player in the banner) Still think he deserves he position, but disappointed that Ron was not put up there after his death. He is a true legend!!
sadoldgit Posted 2 September, 2014 Posted 2 September, 2014 Lambert is a Saints legend as was Big Ron Davies (who really should be added). I dont think Lallana qualifies though. Was was part of the squad that brought eventual success but he only really started to make his mark in terms of consistant quality last year. Lambert and Davies and the rest were quality throughout.
Ajv2809 Posted 2 September, 2014 Posted 2 September, 2014 The banner looks dreadfully old and out of date anyway. We really should be changing it, irrespective of the fact there's a Liverpool player on it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
rick1976.4.38 Posted 2 September, 2014 Posted 2 September, 2014 pahars deserves to be up there more than adam, imho
ant Posted 2 September, 2014 Posted 2 September, 2014 The banner looks dreadfully old and out of date anyway. We really should be changing it, irrespective of the fact there's a Liverpool player on it. Plans are afoot, somebody just needs to find capacity to put some graphics together *ahem*.
ART Posted 2 September, 2014 Posted 2 September, 2014 The only place for Lallana's photo is on the club toilet paper. Anyone prepared to invest in producing it would make a fortune as there must now be so many who'd find delight wiping their derriere with that Judas's image.
once_bitterne Posted 2 September, 2014 Posted 2 September, 2014 Can we have a picture of Ads kissing the badge?
Jonnyboy Posted 2 September, 2014 Posted 2 September, 2014 If he is a huge huge success at Liverpool / England he could still make the banner but otherwise he's blown it.
hasper57saint Posted 2 September, 2014 Posted 2 September, 2014 Why not put Nick Holmes up there? He too was a one team player.
Toadhall Saint Posted 2 September, 2014 Posted 2 September, 2014 Why not put Nick Holmes up there? He too was a one team player. Gets my vote.
The Majestic Channon Posted 2 September, 2014 Posted 2 September, 2014 Nick Holmes is a good call, one club man ever reliable, should have got a chance with England, I will never forget him scoring from near the halfway line v Watford in the cup, and his sweet half volley past Shilton at Wembley, get the man on the banner!
Saint J 77 Posted 2 September, 2014 Posted 2 September, 2014 Why not put Nick Holmes up there? He too was a one team player. Gets my vote. Mine too
cellone Posted 2 September, 2014 Posted 2 September, 2014 If he is a huge huge success at Liverpool / England he could still make the banner. Why?
Fitzhugh Fella Posted 2 September, 2014 Posted 2 September, 2014 Big Ron should be there without a doubt
Toadhall Saint Posted 2 September, 2014 Posted 2 September, 2014 Big Ron should be there without a doubt and so does that get my vote - outrageous that he's not tbh
Fitzhugh Fella Posted 2 September, 2014 Posted 2 September, 2014 And why no Terry Paine? Whoever organises the banner has no idea of our heritage. To be frank Shilton and Keegan should be nowhere near it. Big players on the national stage, yes but hardly massive servants of the club. Bill Ellerington, Eric Day, Tommy Traynor, John Sydenham, Nick Holmes are just a few post war players while pre war players have to include Bill Rawlings, Arthur Dominy and Bert Shelley.
lifeintheslowlane Posted 2 September, 2014 Posted 2 September, 2014 Big Ron should be there without a doubt Agree...shameful omission IMO.

Incidentally I was talking to Bert Shelley's son today who himself is 83, what a story he told me about his father's enlistment in the 1st World War.
Fitzhugh Fella Posted 2 September, 2014 Posted 2 September, 2014 Agree...shameful omission IMO. People doing the banner must be under 30?

CB Fry Posted 2 September, 2014 Posted 2 September, 2014 Please tell me you're on a wind up? I'm with Fitzhugh. Arthur Dominoes, Bert Rawlingson and Shelley Rawlings are legends of the club and should be on the banner, it's a disgrace they aren't. Not sure about Willy Elleringworth and Timmy Trailor, but if the majority of the forum think they should be up there then I say go for it.

Assume there must be a selfie or the like of him in red and white?

ART Posted 2 September, 2014 Posted 2 September, 2014 No reason why there couldn't be several rows of players on the banner. Duncan is right and there should be many a player who made a name playing for Saints and have had a huge part in our history.
whelk Posted 2 September, 2014 Posted 2 September, 2014 Never heard of him. What makes him a true legend is the mantelpiece trick. Not many of us can do that past our thirties http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/C._B._Fry * * I hope this is true

If it's standing then that is super human. Many people suffer from mental issues through the course of their stay in India.
rpb Posted 2 September, 2014 Posted 2 September, 2014 And why no Terry Paine? Who is the third one in from thee left then?
Viking Warrior Posted 2 September, 2014 Posted 2 September, 2014 Why not put Nick Holmes up there? He too was a one team player. Has per you beat me to it re nick Holmes . But then there is Franny Benali Maybe we should have two banners the second is the loyalty banner
