St Chalet Posted 28 January, 2014 Share Posted 28 January, 2014 Magnificent performance, shame we did not get the win we deserved. I was very impressed with Sam Gallagher. rudi7s Posted 28 January, 2014 Share Posted 28 January, 2014 Morgan Schneiderlin is one of the most complete midfielders worldwide. Performances like tonight make me shocked he still plays in a Southampton shirt, just class. Great games from Shaw and Lallana too, and I thought our centre halves were good also, Yoshida in particular - his decision making without the ball is so much better than with it. NickG Posted 28 January, 2014 Share Posted 28 January, 2014 Hard to pick mom but thought Chambers was superb. He seemed more solid, quicker, and was reading game better than whoever came down his side, did he get beaten once? Involved attacking as well. Thought was better of two fullbacks tonight - Shaw was very good and offered more going forward but seemed to lose his position and was too slow getting back leading directly to a goal. Not slating him just why I'd put Chambers ahead tonight. Schneiderlin was every where, so reliable with possession. lallana works harder each game. Don't get the lack of passion / excitement from a few posters on prematch thread about seeing Gallagher. Good to see another young player and good debut Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk

Stick Ozil on his back and you wouldn't question it, he was at that level with his touch/technique and movement. An absolute shoe-in for the world cup, no question. BallBoy Posted 28 January, 2014 Share Posted 28 January, 2014 I am exhausted but buzzing. A fabulous game of football to watch. Would have loved a win and we deserved it but, on our day, we can match the best teams in the league. There were no poor (or even average) performances tonight. Special mentions for Shaw, Cork and Maya but, for me, Morgan was at his imperious best. It is easy to forget just how good he because he is not flamboyant but he makes the game look easy and was easily the best midfielder on the park tonight. Great game. Of course, according to the press Arsenal were under par Always going to be the way, but in my eyes we didn't let them play. We tactically owned their midfield today and killed the influence of Ozil/Cazorlla on the pattern of the game. It allowed Morgan, Cork and Davis to just dominate. Badger Posted 28 January, 2014 Share Posted 28 January, 2014 Good result though - who wouldn't have accepted that pre-kick off, and even more so when we went 2-1 down ? Usual problems though - dominate and only score once. We're just too wasteful. errrr... We drew 2-2 HTH. Eerrmmm, I could have sworn we scored twice. Excellent game to watch. We were by far the better team, so I can understand how some think it was 2 points dropped. However, I had us down to lose this one - so, for me, it is one point gained. Lallana, Cork, Shaw and Chambers all had blinders but the MoM was the Polish 'keeper. No, not Boruc, Szczesny. If not for him we would have won at a canter. Okay, fair point Bexy and Minsk, I should have phrased it differently : we only score once whilst we are dominating for long periods of the match (as in the First half). Smirking_Saint Posted 28 January, 2014 Share Posted 28 January, 2014 Just watching the game on match choice. What a magnificent performance, more or less completely outplayed the team top of the table, if it wasnt for some bad luck both in front of goal for us and probably with Cazorla's goal then we would have grabbed the three points. More or less the whole team looked as though they played V well. Worked very hard. Offensively Dhaw was immense however defensively you could possibly point at him for the two goals if I was being picky but it was basically a decent counter by Arsenal with us on the back foot and a lack of organisation. Cork played well, second half seemed to fade a touch but is always available for the ball, keeps it simple and breaks up the play. I personally thought Yoshi and Fonte looked pretty good, a few shakey moments from Maya but all in all he looks an able back up for me, miles better then Jos and its refreshing to see his distribution looking good. Chambers was steady again and Fonte solid. J Rod, Lallana and Davis worked their socks off and played v well, Lallanas touch is magical. Jay needs to work on his shooting and composure, he directs shots well but needs more conviction. SG looked v good for a young lad making his full Prem debut against Arsenal, Im excited about him. Morgan is my MOTM though, looking back to his best from last year tonight, Id love to see how many miles he covered as he was everywhere. Great distribution and great destruction of Arsenals play. All in all v chuffed, we seem to be getting back to our best. Crisis ? What crisis ?

saintds Posted 28 January, 2014 Share Posted 28 January, 2014 Cracking game tonight, really enjoyed it. The battle between Shaw and Sagna went on all game and was excellent too. Gallagher showed real potential, not fazed at all. Who drops to the bench for Big Vic then? Nobody in my opinion. Would be very harsh if Cork has to sit out after 3 consecutive MoMs. 13 points between 10th and 8th and we're smack bang in the middle of it. Lallana's Left Peg Posted 28 January, 2014 Share Posted 28 January, 2014 Great to see Saints be so aggressive in every game we play and the belief in the squad instilled by the Manager gives our kids the platform to go out and more than hold their own. If we are to continue milking our Academy then we must try and keep Pochettino as he really knows how to handle young players and integrate them. He would be forgiven at several moments this season for turning to experience during difficult periods but his commitment to giving young players a chance and allowing them to make mistakes is unbelievable to me. Wes Tender Posted 28 January, 2014 Share Posted 28 January, 2014 We should have won it, as apart from the short spell after play began for the second half, we were by far the better team. We were at their throats from the off and really could have been two or three goals up in the first half with better finishing. The midfield was immense, shutting down their playmakers, not allowing them the space to play their game, which is normally enough to tear most teams apart. We closed them down, cut off the supply to their expensive primadonnas and pressed them back into their own half for most of the first 45 minutes. Anybody who did not know which team was top of the division, would have guessed that it was us. When they got back into it with those two quick second half goals, we were guilty of a lack of focus and allowed them too much space and time on the ball and they punished us for it. But thankfully this is a team that doesn't let their heads drop and is good enough to regain the upper hand by continuing to do what brought results in the first half. Having levelled the score, I was hopeful that we might go on to win it and we certainly had the chances to do so. But having lost Flammini, Arsenal decided that discretion was the better part of valour and that they would settle for the point. I'm proud of our performance and acknowledge that apart from a moment of madness by Boruc and a ridiculous penalty awarded by Clot 'n' Berk, we would have had two draws against Arsenal this season. When we play like this, we can prove a match for any team in the division and it has only been Chelsea that has clearly been better than us so far. Cork was again my MOTM, although there were several superb performances from others like Lallana, Shaw, Chambers, Morgan, Davies in particular. Gallagher acquitted himself well for his debut and should have done a Shearer with that chance he had faced with an open goal. Had we had the options at least to introduce Lambert, Lovren and Wanyama, I think that the three points would have been ours without a shadow of doubt. Wes Tender Posted 29 January, 2014 Share Posted 29 January, 2014 Arrogant Arsenal pr*ck found on News Now:-10 reasons why we will beat Southampton + Starting 11 1) After a solid start to the season, Southampton now find themselves having won just twice in 11 games. 2) Southampton’s success has come from having a solid defensive record. They have the 4th best defensive record in the league. Much of this success has come from £8.5 million summer signing Dejan Lovren. He is out injured until March. 3) Also out injured is their defensive midfield rock, Victor Wanyama. Gaston Ramirez and Rickie Lambert both face late fitness tests. If they do not pass it, it leaves them with just one striker in their squad – Jay Rodgriguez. 4) Southampton’s player of the season thus far is Adam Lallana. Matheiu Flamini eats players like Lallana for breakfast. 4) Southampton are a club in crisis. Their chairman has recently resigned and the replacement is the spoilt rich daughter of their deceased owner who could do with going on a diet. Mauricio Pochettino’s future was linked to their former chairman, Nicola Cortese. He will leave in the summer. They are their for the taking. 5) Arsenal have won 6 Premier League games in a row, conceding just once. 6) Aaron Ramsey is back fit. Remember him? The best Welshman in the world? Our player of the first half a season. Our top scorer. He is back. And fit. 7) The last time Southampton beat Arsenal was November 2002. That time, they needed a penalty and own goal to win the game. Whilst Bacary Sagna has not yet signed a new contract, he is giving 100% every game and being a true professional. He will be MOTM tonight and score a goal (I am Mystic Meg). 9) Southampton have scored 17 goals at home this season. Arsenal have scored 23 goals away. That means the result will be Southampton 1.55 – 2.88 Arsenal. 10) Our mental strength has never been stronger. The strength and unity within the squad is amazing. Maybe we should have strength and unity as our club motto under our badge? Maybe have it in a cool language like Latin. I wonder what strength through unity translates too? Response by Saints fan Dan C post match: Just thought id come back to give you some reasons why your ****e: 1. we outplayed you 2. we had more shots 3. we had more of the ball 4. your players go down like sacks of spuds. 5. giroud is a massive ***** 6. we played an 18 year old up front and you mocked us, he ran rings around you. 7. flamini was mugged by lallana numerous times 8. the best frenchman on the pitch was schneirdelin 9. the best polak on the pitch was artur boruc 10 the best englishman on the picth was lallana. (you had 0 on the pitch untill the ox) 11. we had 11 academy products all start and another off the bench. (4 of them under 20) 12. ozil was average at best 13. flamini couldnt handle it so tried to break morgans legs. 14. your best player was your right back. these are a few i can think off the top of my head. dont be such an arrogant jumped up mug next time you arse

GarrettIvo Posted 29 January, 2014 Share Posted 29 January, 2014 Nice finish to that interview. "In... and out" The out seems pretty clear, and like everyone else I am waiting for the IN with bated breath. A striker would be nice, but Gallagher has shown enough to warrant more match time for mine. Another CB is key I think, purely for depth. I just hope a fresh face, regardless of position, brings even more positivity to the playing group. But look at the next six games: Fulham, Stoke, Hull WHU, Liverpool and Palace. On tonight's form we could get 16 points from that list. Imagine where that could take us

scotty Posted 29 January, 2014 Share Posted 29 January, 2014 Anything against the league leaders is points gained. We could have won yes, but we could have lost 4-1 as well. That was actually my pre-match prediction, 4-1 defeat. I went with two mates from Dartford, one a diehard Saints fan and the other a gunner. Didn't expect anything from this game, the arsenal fan reckoned Cork as man of the match and said we were the best midfield he'd seen this season. I'm well chuffed with a point that I really wasn't expecting, and Gallagher looked very promising as well.

Lord Duckhunter Posted 29 January, 2014 Share Posted 29 January, 2014 Top top performance for all but the first 10 mins of the second half. Gave them an absolute run around first half. Outclassed and out Arsenaled. I've seen them harried and outmuscled before, but not had the **** taken out of them like that. Wonderful, and with the spine out. No Lovren,no victor and no Rickie, amazing performance. That said, a couple of soft goals cost us, Jrod really poor for the first one and the left flank badly exposed for the second. Great for Jose, a real popular goal that one. Midfield superb, and I thought chambers was fantastic tonight. On Monday Neil Warnock said on Alan brazils show that Clyne is the best English right back in the league, its touch and go if he's the best right back at Southampton , let alone the league.
