ART Posted 28 January, 2014 Share Posted 28 January, 2014 Katharina you are such a beautiful lady when you're smiling. I hope that you will always be smiling from now on. And I notice that our manager was clean shaven, looking very handsome indeed. What a game, what a performance. Haven't enjoyed a game of football as much for a long time. Ricky wouldn't have done any better than young Sam did tonight. Luke Shaw was sensational. Hat's off to Jack Cork for another excellent game as for Adam Lallana. In fact nearly everyone did well. Really buzzing, so proud of what Pochettino is achieving, the belief he's given the players.

Plumstead_Saint Posted 28 January, 2014 Share Posted 28 January, 2014 Unlucky not to win that - easily the better side over 96 mins. Let's not forget that earlier this season we outplayed Arse at the Emirates [still the only team to have more possession than them at home?], and still lost, so maybe 1 point better than none? DuncanRG Posted 28 January, 2014 Share Posted 28 January, 2014 I really wish Shaw would stop shooting at the keeper every time he moves in towards the box. Give him the next penalty so he can get his first goal over and done with.
Sheaf Saint Posted 28 January, 2014 Share Posted 28 January, 2014 Good result though - who wouldn't have accepted that pre-kick off, and even more so when we went 2-1 down ? SO16_Saint Posted 28 January, 2014 Share Posted 28 January, 2014 Boruc - great save in the first half. Picked the ball out the met twice well, other than that, not a lot to do. Fonte - solid, wanted the header more for the goal, could've had another. Maya - looks shakey at times, did ok considering the lack of first team football. Chambers - didn't really notice him, but that's not a bad thing necessarily. Must've done nothing wrong on that basis. Shaw - quality oozes out of the lad. So much older than his years. Must have a fighting chance of going to the world cup. Cork - very good at breaking up the play, and playing the simple ball to get us going,... quickly Spiderman - very strong performance from the lad. Didn't really put a foot wrong. Some good forward runs. Davis - MR dependable. Very very good player. Knows his limitations, and strengths. Lallana - wow. Just wow. Booked his WC spot, surely. JROD - excellent for 75 minutes, chasing lost causes and excellent link up play. Not cut out to be the sole striker.....yet. Gallagher - looks a very good prospect, such a shame about the misses. BG_Saint Posted 28 January, 2014 Share Posted 28 January, 2014 Brilliant decision by MoPo to leave J-Rod play from second role, he was superb for our second goal. Sam was a bit unlucky but def showing a lot of promise. Cork and Callum really impressive as was Shaw. Fonte, AL also played well although with some minor errors. Another game in which a team from the top of the league looked like the weaker side. Only Chelsea looked better from all the teams we've played this year. Usual problems though - dominate and only score once. We're just too wasteful. Eerrmmm, I could have sworn we scored twice. Excellent game to watch. We were by far the better team, so I can understand how some think it was 2 points dropped. However, I had us down to lose this one - so, for me, it is one point gained. Lallana, Cork, Shaw and Chambers all had blinders but the MoM was the Polish 'keeper. No, not Boruc, Szczesny. If not for him we would have won at a canter. lickierambert Posted 28 January, 2014 Share Posted 28 January, 2014 I love our team-young, likeable, largely British and playing good football. That's enough for me. If we could be more proficient in both boxes, though, we'd have one hell of a side. We HAVE to hold on to our talented youngsters-Chambers, Shaw, Gallagher, Lallana, Rodriguez, Clyne, Reed, JWP-the making of a great team.

Lazlo78 Posted 28 January, 2014 Share Posted 28 January, 2014 That was an effin great match to watch!!! Looked like we were cruising at half time (remember Sunderland?) but switched off after the break. Really great to see a quick response when most fans expected us to crumble under pressure. Not too bothered about the result, but maybe that's because we're in no man's land in the league table... Obviously a key point about taking our chances and making our dominance count, but on the plus side we earned this point without Lovren/Wanyama/Lambert, and with Gallagher leading the line. Oh and that boy, Lallana? He's really buzzing at the moment... This match opened up new perspectives with regards to our squad; Chambers/Clyne will be an interesting battle to follow, Cork/Wanyama likewise, Gallagher to put pressure on Lambert, Ward-Prowse to get back on track and push for a place in the side, Yoshida and Fonte doing a job without Lovren (even though Dejan was missed )... The only spots where we're well and truly f*cked if we get any injuries seems to be LB and GK...

Under Weststand Posted 28 January, 2014 Share Posted 28 January, 2014 Fabulous how we keep producing these youngsters, Gallagher certainly didn't look out of place & probably should have scored, but proved a a real threat whilst he was on. Just shows how far we've come as a club overall when we are slightly disappointed not to win against the league leaders. The only but, is the way we dominate for long periods of games & can't put the chances away. Oh for a clinical striker. Arsenal will know they've been outplayed for long periods & upon reflection realise that they've won a valuable point against a very good Saints team tonight
Jonnyboy Posted 28 January, 2014 Share Posted 28 January, 2014 2 points dropped but a fabulous performance from a side packed with Academy graduates. The better side for long periods. david in sweden Posted 28 January, 2014 Share Posted 28 January, 2014 (edited) we could have had 6 MOM's, but I was really impressed by Jack Cork especially in first half. Adam never looks anything but brilliant. Shaw and Chambers look like they've played for 3 seasons. Sam showed very few nerves on his " official " debut, and looked good though especially against Arsenal's defence he couldn't have expected to do much better. Must play him again on Saturday. Arsenal will count that as the hardest-fought point they've got this season. Edited 28 January, 2014 by david in sweden

Tommy Mulgrew Posted 28 January, 2014 Share Posted 28 January, 2014 Boruc 6 not a lot to do except pick the ball out of the net twice; one good reaction save and one horrendous mit-timed punch Chambers 8 very safe; better than Shaw at defending, not as dynamic going forward but still amazing considering his young age Fonte 8 safe in defence and aggressive going forward; good goal Yoshida 6 considering his lack of game time, a solid performance Shaw 7 shaky in defence, commanding in the air and a threat going forward Cork 7 everywhere in the middle of the park, could have scored, tentative at times but with Morgan bossed the first half Schneiderlin 8.5 Motm for me, commanding figure in midfield Davis 7 solid as ever and even showed off close control in Arsenal's penalty area when setting up Gallagher (Koscielny blocked shot) Lalallana 8 creative for 70 minutes and then disappeared; lucky goal between keeper's legs Rodrigues 7 for effort but not incisive enough as a lone striker late on; he missed Ricky Gallagher 6 good effort, not yet enough guile to outwit EPL defenders; horrid miss in first half JWP 5 not on long enough to make his mark and was right when protesting about a throw-in GDP 5 not on long enough to make his mark and should have been been awarded a foul; both subs ran well off the ball Excellent match in which, yet again, we outplayed the league leaders but couldn't quite convert our superiority into three points. So far this season only Chelsea have outplayed us. Exciting times to be a Saints supporter - just as good as when we had Paine, Sydenham and big Ron. There are two valid ways of looking at it: based on expectations before the game it was a good point gained. Based on our performance during the game overall it was 2 points lost. It's not negative to say "2 points dropped". If anything the opposite is true - it shows how much we appreciated our level of play in the game. I'd rather be supporting a team where I'm more disappointed that we lost than a team where I'm content with a draw from that performance. I'm sure Pochettino shares that mentality. S-Clarke Posted 28 January, 2014 Share Posted 28 January, 2014 Exquisite performance, bar a 30 min spell where they upped the tempo significantly, we were magnificent. We still lack the killer touch in and around the area (on tonight's showing, Sam isn't quite ready). And we're prone to making real sloppy errors at the back.....(bloody Yoshida, giving me heart attacks!) But generally, that was as well as we've played for months. We were on the front foot from the off and we didn't let them into the match at all in that first half, it was pure brilliance from us. You can say Arsenal were poor, but they had some class out there tonight and we tactically shut them out for the majority of that game. Morgan, as he always seems to be against Arsenal, was magnificent. Cork was also quality, and Davis did his usual harrying/hustling and niggling game in the support area of the midfield. We won that midfield battle without a doubt. I'd have to give MOTM to Shaw tonight though, that's why the big clubs want him. It was bale-esque at times how the game kept coming down the left hand side, and he seems to be seriously bulking up - which is ominous for everyone. A pure class act. On the note of Sam....very clever movement, does all the right things, but was lacking that final bit of quality today. His touch wasn't great and that chance he had was a pretty poor miss, overall he's a good prospect...but not someone who is ready to be thrown in as yet in my opinion. Attribute wise he's quite handy though. Overall, we were class. Lots and lots to be positive about. We really seem to be picking up some form again after our tricky December period. Onwards and upwards...

HOW FAR HAVE WE COME!!!!!!! Shaw has grown up no doubt, taters were talking of WC at the outside chance. Hope Katherina sat there thinking, 'we could have won this if we had one of them striker persons. I think i'll pop down and see that Herr Maricio and see if we can get one with whats in my pockets.
