"@alex_crook: Rickie Lambert a doubt for the game v #afc with hamstring injury but Poch says he has 'no fears' about playing @Sam9allagher #saintsfc" Looks like Gallagher may debut tomorrow, if one is to believe Alex Crook...

And why not, he looked really handy in the SP highlights, could have had 3 or 4 goals, it was Yeovil though. He looks quick, he moves about well and he looks to have good control of the ball. Just what you need to unsettle the Arse. Don't doubt we'll have staid old Lambert instead though because perhaps Woy will be there.

How old was Steve Moran on debut ?

........a bit older than some people think, perhaps

Steve was an associate schoolboy player in 1975 at age 14, (most people have heard the legendary Mc Menemy football boots story) and turned pro at 18 (1979) and debuted in Jan.1980 ....aged 19 when he scored as an oncoming sub. His career really took off during the next season, not unexpectedly when you consider he was playing along side Kevin Keegan and Mick Channon and he netted 58 goals in 117 games in first 4 seasons...a really excellent +/- 50% strike rate.

Competetion was tough when Saints signed Joe Jordan and David Armstrong, and sadly Steve lost favour after Lawrie Mac's departure when Saints became cash-strapped and he was sold to Leicester.

He deserved more credit and space in the record books where he (agonisingly) stood on ....99 goals for the club.)

Who takes penalties if Lambert is out? Surprised Guly took one, does that mean Lallana and JRod aren't confident?

Jay takes them but Guly badgered him to let him take it. Kelvin mentioned it in the post match interviews. Team spirit, innit as Guly hadn't scored in 2 years.

I wouldn't want Lallana taking penalties, his finishing is far from the best attribute of his game. If he was fit, I'd have Lovren taking the pens.

JRod is the normal penalty taker after Rickie, then Steve Davis I think, but if we get one when we're 2 or more up with 5 minutes left we need to hand it to Luke or Jack Cork.

On Sam Gallagher…

“No, no fear at all (of starting him in the Premier League). Nothing’s changed. Sam’s position is still the same. We are very calm with the young, talented players. We want to give them the chance step by step.”

May as well give him the opportunity tomorrow, was given a chance Saturday and took it. If it doesn't work out so be it, he's only 18 and he will at least learn something from the experience to take forwards.

Plus it would allow us to keep Rodriguez cutting in from wide where he is most effective.

I have no worries about starting Sam either. I've seen him a couple of times now and he looks pretty classy for a big man, with a good touch (cliche city..!).

The bonus is that not many will know about him, so he could surprise a few defences this year. By looking at him, you wouldn't assume he's as quick and skillfull as he actually is.

A very good first start. Looks like a natural leader of the attack. Took Koscelny out of the road for Lallana to have a free shot for our equaliser. Comfortable on the ball, robust and a good shot. Well played Sam. I'm looking forward to more appearances.

Couldn't have asked for a better debut from him imo, unlucky not to put away a difficult chance in difficult positions, looking forward to seeing more of him.

The one important thing he has in common with Shaw, JWP and Chambers is (as ottery said) he wasn't overawed one bit. All 4 have seemed every bit ready to play massive games at an incredibly young age. Kudos to the youth setup and the players themselves.
