kpturner Posted 25 January, 2014 Posted 25 January, 2014 Looked pretty decent I thought. Great touch for a big lad, and decent turn of pace. Skinned the defender for his goal too. Not sure what his head-butts are like mind.....

Not sure what his head-butts are like mind..... Ask Michael Dawson. Gallagher went through him like a hit knife through butter within seconds of coming on against Spurs. Knew from that moment I'd like him
SuperSAINT Posted 25 January, 2014 Posted 25 January, 2014 Really pleased for him - Got a nice run out and sounded quite threatening. Will be interested in hearing peoples views on him who were there today.
hypochondriac Posted 25 January, 2014 Posted 25 January, 2014 Really pleased for him - Got a nice run out and sounded quite threatening. Will be interested in hearing peoples views on him who were there today. He looked really decent. Good first shot, tool his goal really well and nice little bit of skill for a third chance. I really liked the look of him and he may be needed in the weeks ahead.
Ohio Saint Posted 25 January, 2014 Posted 25 January, 2014 I have no clue about what happened in today's game, but Sam has looked promising ever since he came on my radar. I really should get a rag and clean that radar screen off.
Whitey Grandad Posted 25 January, 2014 Posted 25 January, 2014 Very promising. We could have saved £15m and a broken nose.
lifeintheslowlane Posted 25 January, 2014 Posted 25 January, 2014 Could easily have had a second with a great bit of close control from 6 yards but the keeper made a fortuitous block. Looks quick, skilful and confident...I really like him. Future looks bright.
SuperMikey Posted 25 January, 2014 Posted 25 January, 2014 [video=youtube;-QRlyvmRHys] He was absolutely sublime against P*mpey U18's when I saw him, he's pretty quick for a big lad too. Not entirely dissimilar to Ishamel Miller when he was starting out at Man City in terms of his overall game. Looks a good prospect for the future, hopefully he can get some game time with the first team over the rest of the season and be a part of the squad ready for the next!
niceandfriendly Posted 25 January, 2014 Posted 25 January, 2014 Off to United or City for £20mil in the Summer
markr27 Posted 25 January, 2014 Posted 25 January, 2014 Very intelligent running and movement, although the majority weren't picked out...
kwsaint Posted 25 January, 2014 Posted 25 January, 2014 Looked the part today and took his goal well. Almost had a second. Hope he gets the game time to develop
James Posted 25 January, 2014 Posted 25 January, 2014 He looked really good I thought. As others have said, like a mobile Peter Crouch. He made good runs, has good control and looks to have a decent strike on him. Get him more involved in the Prem I say. Looks like he's capable.
kpturner Posted 25 January, 2014 Author Posted 25 January, 2014 Off to United or City for £20mil in the Summer Yawn Zzzzzzzzzzz
Saint_Tony Posted 25 January, 2014 Posted 25 January, 2014 Not seen much of him, but it's a lot to ask of an 18 year old with very little top flight experience to step up to the plate for us, we really need to try and get rid of Osvaldo and bring in a replacement within the next few days

Nothing to lose, loads to gain.
The Cat Posted 25 January, 2014 Posted 25 January, 2014 Seen him a few times now and always been impressed. I have no doubt he'll turn out to be a more than decent player.
Fitzhugh Fella Posted 25 January, 2014 Posted 25 January, 2014 Not seen much of him, but it's a lot to ask of an 18 year old with very little top flight experience to step up to the plate for us, we really need to try and get rid of Osvaldo and bring in a replacement within the next few days Yea but we blooded Shaw aged 17 and Chambers 18. IMO if you aint banging the door down at 18 you aint gonna make it. All our great players ie Shearer, Channon, Bale, Le Tiss were doing it at 18

Toadhall Saint Posted 25 January, 2014 Posted 25 January, 2014 Took his chance very well which bodes well.
Pastor Patrón Posted 25 January, 2014 Posted 25 January, 2014 Yea but we blooded Shaw aged 17 and Chambers 18. IMO if you aint banging the door down at 18 you aint gonna make it. slickmick Posted 25 January, 2014 Posted 25 January, 2014 Very intelligent running and movement, although the majority weren't picked out... Yeh, sometimes an early ball was required. He does have a lot of strength and power.
Fitzhugh Fella Posted 25 January, 2014 Posted 25 January, 2014 Lallana was nothing special until he was in his 20s Good point but no theory is 100% fool proof - I still maintain in 95% of young footballers if you haven't made it into the first team on a regular basis by the time you leave your teens it isn't going to happen. #rule of thumb
Bananaman Posted 25 January, 2014 Posted 25 January, 2014 Yea but we blooded Shaw aged 17 and Chambers 18. IMO if you aint banging the door down at 18 you aint gonna make it. All our great players ie Shearer, Channon, Bale, Le Tiss were doing it at 18 Lambert
derry Posted 25 January, 2014 Posted 25 January, 2014 Looks like a proper centre forward. Needs to improve in the air but his movement, ball control and shooting were excellent.
ottery st mary Posted 25 January, 2014 Posted 25 January, 2014 Play it again Sam. Great performance. Sam Gallagher....excellent player. Looks to have bags of all round talent. ANOTHER GREAT piece of work saints.....bringing him up from Plymouth a couple of years ago....masterstroke. COYS:)
John Boy Saint Posted 25 January, 2014 Posted 25 January, 2014 Mrs JBS thought he looks a bit like Lambert in his runs positioning and anticipation. Beautifully taken goal.
SaintRichmond Posted 26 January, 2014 Posted 26 January, 2014 Sam Gallagher My initial random impressions Only CCC opposition but did not look out of place Took goal well, could have had a second Looked big lad but mobile with it Looks a natural For those who think (any) player is “too young”, it’s worth noting that the following made their debuts at an early age :- Greaves (17) Trevor Francis (16) Chivers (17) Ball (17) Giggs (17 ?) Channon (17) Le tiss (18 ?) Yes, they are ALL Big names yes, but the thing to remember is, they weren’t big names on their debuts, ……but their abilities made them into Big names Could have saved us £15M Good Luck Sam
doddisalegend Posted 26 January, 2014 Posted 26 January, 2014 Seen him twice now. First time was in the FA youth cup against the skates scored a hat trick but weirdly I didn't think he was one of the best players in that team that night. Yesterday he scored a great goal, mostly from his own hard work, and had a couple more chances. He didn't look out of place at all playing with the first team (which is a credit to our system of bring youth through).
david in sweden Posted 26 January, 2014 Posted 26 January, 2014 Looked pretty decent I thought. Great touch for a big lad, and decent turn of pace. Skinned the defender for his goal too. Not sure what his head-butts are like mind..... OK we could say..... he was playing against lower league opposition, but they were still better than the U18 defenders he's been matched against up until now. Good that he had a longer run-out instead of the last 10 minute ritual appearance. Apparantly took his goal well, and might have had a second. Now let's give the lad a breather, and don't expect too much too soon. All our top strikers of the past; Channon, Shearer even MLT had a lengthy spell on the bench before they got a regular spot. Hopefully he may become our new " super-sub " ......a subject we've touched on before, meantime let's hope his luck holds and he can get some confidence and the occasional goal from a few more apps.
georgeweahscousin Posted 26 January, 2014 Posted 26 January, 2014 Not sure what his head-butts are like mind..... He's Scottish so I would imagine decent. #stereotype
for_heaven's_Saint Posted 26 January, 2014 Posted 26 January, 2014 Let's see how he does against Arsenal!
gammon cheeks Posted 26 January, 2014 Posted 26 January, 2014 He looked really good I thought. As others have said, like a mobile Peter Crouch. More like a Alan shearer if you ask me.
Miltonaggro Posted 26 January, 2014 Posted 26 January, 2014 Good call Gammon, very much like a young Alan Shearer as a player. In terms of looks I think he is a ringer for one time cinematic hardcase Dolph Lundgren - perhaps we should nickname him Ivan Drago!...
OLDER BUT WISER Posted 26 January, 2014 Posted 26 January, 2014 Hope he has an English grandparent then the press will really drool over him
georgeweahscousin Posted 26 January, 2014 Posted 26 January, 2014 Hope he has an English grandparent then the press will really drool over him He's from Devon so could switch allegiances, but I think we might be jumping the gun a bit...
James Posted 26 January, 2014 Posted 26 January, 2014 Nothing like Peter crouch. More like a Alan shearer if you ask me. I only meant it in terms of the fact that he is tall (4 inches taller than Shearer) but looks to have good feet for a big man. That's it. He wasn't really on for long enough to draw many meaningful comparisons so I'd be interested to hear how you drew a Shearer comparison....

Very very strong for a 18 yearold powerful and direct , good with both feet not afraid to have a pop at the goal from distance.... very similar to Shearer at that age......didnt see him win a lot in the air to be honest but that will come
eelpie Posted 26 January, 2014 Posted 26 January, 2014 Hopefully he may become our new " super-sub " ......a subject we've touched on before, meantime let's hope his luck holds and he can get some confidence and the occasional goal from a few more apps. Well we have needed a supersub to replace Punch. Ok so Sam's a forward and Puncheon is a midfielder, but he could have a similarly positive impact on games.
St_Tel49 Posted 26 January, 2014 Posted 26 January, 2014 Lallana was nothing special until he was in his 20s I could not disagree more. The first time I saw him it was clear that he had the quickest feet that I had seen on any Saints player MLT included. Yes he had stuff to learn but the talent obvious.
sammysaint Posted 26 January, 2014 Posted 26 January, 2014 If you 18 and not knocking on the door does not mean your not good enough and wont make it, alot of time its positioning issue, strength and experience of game situations vs top older players.
Leicestersaint Posted 26 January, 2014 Posted 26 January, 2014 Very good prospect - I hope he gets lots more games this season and shows what he can do.
davefizzy14 Posted 26 January, 2014 Posted 26 January, 2014 This lad is a big talent, I think we will see a lot more of him this season. Great goal too from Sam
mitch01 Posted 27 January, 2014 Posted 27 January, 2014 I just watched the Saintsplayer highlights. His turn round the defender at the end in the box was phenomenal. If he's got that in his locker at 18 he could be something a bit special.
kpturner Posted 27 January, 2014 Author Posted 27 January, 2014 How old was Steve Moran on debut ? Twelve
OldNick Posted 27 January, 2014 Posted 27 January, 2014 Twelvelol that helped thanks, a bit more informative than normal as well. I did not mean in the Tyro league but.....
Window Cleaner Posted 27 January, 2014 Posted 27 January, 2014 lol that helped thanks, a bit more informative than normal as well. I did not mean in the Tyro league but..... Anyway he was either just 19 or still 18. It was in winter and he scored after not long on the pitch. Went on to score a lot of goals in his first full season after that. Steve wasn't a schoolboy saint though, he came from elsewhere .
