I have a date with a nice girl who lives in Winchester coming up, but I don't know what's good to do there. Going to play it safe with a couple of drinks or a coffee.

Any suggestions for pubs/cafes/restaurants? Preferably in the city centre as neither of us drive. Somewhere with a bit of British character would be nice, as she isn't from the UK.

Doesn't have to be a life-affirming experience, first date with my previous missus was at Costa by Bargate and we got on fine!

Cheers me dears.

Ask her - she lives there, innit.

Make sure you dress up in Union flag clothes like some folk do at Wimbledon when Henman's playing. You'll look suitably British.

She's only just moved there - uni student innit!

As for my outfit, I was thinking about modelling myself on one of these chaps to show off my British spirit:

I'm leaning towards the guy on the far left (lolz) because of his nice leather gloves, definitely won't make her think i'm a violent psychopath. Done deal.

The Willowtree?

Looks like a nice place, but a bit out of the way for me. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Black White Red is alright, coffee shop that turns into a wine bar. On Jewry street. Or if it's just a bevy u want, try Greens. Bit different and nice enough

Looked into BWR, seems like a nice place. Cheers fella.

Try the Old Vine, near the cathedral on Great Minster Street. Excellent pub that serves really good food. Very central too. Or maybe the Wykeham Arms, the other side of the cathedral at the bottom of Canon Street. On Wharf Hill, close to the river as its name suggests, there's the Black Boy. There you go - three excellent pubs for you. How the hell is the Willow Tree a bit out of the way though? It's not like Winchester is a massive place - it's maybe five minutes walk from the centre to the Willow Tree.

Forgot one - the Hyde Tavern on Hyde Street, not far from the station. Great selection of beers, really nice ambience, no food but sells brilliant pork scratchings - and you can't get much more English than pork scratchings...

This is amazing news mikey, will there be a podcast up date at any point? Also plse pm photo for approval or Muppet show post. I haven't been to Winchester in a while but there used to be a good vodka bar that seemed to work. Opposite church. Give that a go if its still there.

Take her to the Cathedral Grounds after dark for a nice blend of underage drinkers and alcoholics, or perhaps you could take in the sights on a scenic walk up Winnall Manor Road. Then back in the city you could see a performance from one of the city's many tramps. Enjoy.
