Osvaldo suspended 2 weeks by #saintsfc. Incident at training ground, understood to involve Jose Fonte. No action to be taken against Fonte.

Ah.....that's helpful Mr Simpson.

Jose would be a difficult one to call of course. If i was a bookmaker id be wary of that match-up too many variables. I mean the Portuguese are not notoriously hard but then again they used to be around the time of the Aztecs and so on - ruthless Magellan was Portuguese incidentally. As an aside its generally the case that the loser gets no action taken against them - unless they were really asking for it - but the winner gets punished. If Staplewood was ancient Sparta they would be applauding Dani and Jose would be banished to Athens or some other non spartan place for losing the fight (unless he was totally game of course in which case he'd be honored a bit ) .

I have to say I agree with Glasgow.... that is a sentence I never thought I would ever write in this forum!

If it is fighting no good can come of it. I remember Ruddock and Berk........ on the West Ham training ground. One always has to go.

Even after 2 weeks out will the rest of the squad want to train or play with him?

Will KL be reluctant to sell after her promise and not to devalue the price of the club?

I know for a fact a lot of them were out last night but don't know if that would contribute.

Also disappointed that yoshidas fighting style was left out of that analysis earlier...

Nobody "has" to go. Professional footballers have bust ups all the time. It could actually be a good thing. Could mean that training is ultra competitive and Dani went ott. Which I'm not displeased to hear ahead of a Yeovil match in which the greatest threat is squad complacency - especially in our International players. I'd suggest that there will still be fire in the bellies come Saturday for sure after hearing this...no limp struggling to get motivated fa cup performance now expected.

Not really.

There also has to be some kind of punishment, a ritual for the good of the group. Doesn't mean MP can't handle things sensitively one-to-one with Osvaldo.

The real question is whether its worth the bother. FWIW, I haven't written off yet.

Whoever it concerned, no way should there be any infighting at your own club. Get the guy shipped out ASAP.

Thoroughly agree and if he's allowed to stay it'll fester away destroying all the good that existed prior to his arrival. The incident is plastered all across the web and international media already. Fat chance we'll have of signing anyone whilst he's still at the club.

why is everyone so reactionary? Wet yourself over a nice letter from KL without knowing the facts then get your knickers in a twist over Osvaldo being suspended. Say he was in the wrong, do we not give second chances to people any more, just write them off straight away? If he returns and bangs in a few goals you'll all be singing a jokey song about the incident and making light of it... Yes, and it'll mostly be the same people who are saying "rubbish, disruptive, get rid" on this very thread.

Its a bit pointless now but I'm sorry i left out Maya. Of course hes going to be a consideration when it comes to UFC at SMS (doncha love all these letters). He has got height and reach of course plus he does have the experience. Id guess he would know all the pressure points and would be a subtle fighter rather than a brawler, as such i think he might just pick Dani off - but as long as Dani did not get him pinned down and worked the body too much and perhaps clipped him with a head or knee butt or two. Good match up actuaslly- one that a lot of fans would pay for and want to see.

Fair play to the club for disciplining him like this. Short term not ideal for us, but long term he might learn a lesson.

Fwiw, I haven't written him off. I think our style of play recently has cried out for Osvaldo. He would thrive in a game like the Sunderland one.

One more chance I think. Act up again and get rid.

Do we assume it's 2 weeks from today? Maybe should have just said 2 games.

It doesn't feel like shocking news given his reputation, but what is more disappointing is that my initial reaction when I heard it involved Fonte is that I thought 'I hope Fonte is ok to play' and that is the crux of the issue - Fonte is far more important to us right now and if anyone had said that back in the summer they'd have likely been ridiculed. But the truth is that Osvaldo has not made the impact we'd hoped and that is the most disappointing thing.

Isn't this his 2nd chance though? His first one was missing three games for booting the Newcastle Goalkeeping coach in the balls?

The problem is - it's not a one off. He's been known for this at all his previous clubs, and he's now brought that here as well. I was open minded about him, I thought he'd take his chance and be a top PL starter. But he's shown nothing since he's been here, and his only impacts have been suspensions and alterations.

Can't really be taking his side on any of this.

Now let's be fair he should have got a pay rise for that one. He's ruined all the good work he did there with this latest incident. Shame really, I was hoping to see him up his game and tear Arsene Wengers stupid jacket off his back.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2544554/Osvaldo-banned-Southampton-two-weeks-training-ground-clash.html

Dani Osvaldo has been suspended by Southampton after a training-ground incident which left defender Jose Fonte with serious facial injuries.

The alleged incident took place during a practice match on Thursday and Osvaldo has now been suspended for two weeks by the club.

According to Southampton sources there was blood everywhere after the violent clash during match practice.

Fonte, who is known for his aggressive, niggly approach, had irritated Osvaldo during a high-tempo training session on Thursday morning.

Osvaldo finally reacted and the altercation was described as ‘brutal’ by one Saints source.

The fight was broken up by team-mates but Osvaldo has been suspended following an emergency disciplinary hearing by Southampton executives.

Not sure Fonte is known for that?!

And be interested to hear who this source is?!
