The Echo quote him saying its “an honour and a dream” to move to Juventus, what a prize **** is.

Its a gamble we took and lost this time, Just a shame we didnt replace him before the window shut.

What did you expect him to say? I bet it is an honour. It's Juventus.

It's probably the best negotiation that could happen in the time available. But I still doubt we'll get our money back unless he has a glorious season. I would guess there will be a big game of chicken in the summer.

Juventus: He's been OK for us, but not great. We can't pay 15m of your pounds for him.

Saints: But that's what you agreed.

Juventus: As an option. We can't exercise that option. Too expensive.

Saints: Great. We'll have him back then.

Juventus: Of course, at half the price we might be interested.

Saints players: Do it! Do it! We beg you!

Saints: How about £14m?

Juventus: Ne! £8m maximo.

etc

a likely scenario, but if they try that approach, we say NO! .....and he goes to Brazil and has a good World Cup, the price will be even higher and other clubs may come into the frame for him......

I still cant get my head around this one. Pochettino knew his background better than anyone here, why did it go so wrong so quickly? He must have been involved in signing him, Osvaldo was the first big-money signing under MP, it cant have just been the transfer commitee.

1) it's quite possible that the Transfer Committee also had him on their radar?... (what a stupid expression that is).....and as he'd play for MP before.... it was probably seen as a more likely connection.

2) Of course MP knew him from before, but that was some years ago and Osvaldo had obviously been exposed to the "Latin Culture" in Italy and probably wasn't the same player he remembers.

Every manager likes to be able to sign one of his old players, who DAJF him before, but I think MP will take this as a warning not to be too keen to " go back and get them "....it seldom works well out.

3) Of course we won't be able field a team entirely of Academy products, but in future ... we need to be very careful who we have as a " role-model for young /up-and-coming lads " to learn from.

It's a great move for Juve, they get a top quality striker with a known track record in Serie A, a guy who is hungry for success to get him on the plane to Brazil.

They also get to wield the big stick with the threat of a return to Saints if Ossie doesn't toe the line and they also get the option to jettison him if they find something better in the meantime.

I suppose we get a bundle of trouble off our books for the time being but we are not out of the woods on this one, it's just a temporary situation as far as SFC is concerned.

Lets all just hope Ossie is a smash hit back in Italy - better for all concerned now.

Bloody Juventus taking our castoffs.

That's not a sentence I thought I'd ever write in my lifetime.

Or he'll chin Tevez and we'll be back to square one.

Not until they actually pay it. They've only paid £500k so far.

It has NOT been written into the deal that Juve WILL have to pay ANY transfer fee

They have only taken him ON LOAN

After Serie A season finishes, IMHO, they will NOT purchase him from us, and he will be back as our "player"

That is the problem with Loans with an option to buy ......... at the end of the day, you don't have to buy if you don't want to

A critical word you missed out, David.

The reverse of that is IF he goes to the World Cup and has a strop, head butts a linesman, or a dressing room rumpus occurs, then no sensible f^cker will touch him with a barge pole. This might seem far fetched, but with him and Ballotelli in the same dressing room, fireworks are quite possible.

Someone will always take a chance on a player like that. Hey, we did and there are plenty of clubs out there who are a lot less sensible with their transfers.

Surely an option to buy for juve is a good thing for them rather than us. If he dies really well and is worth more than £15m they'll buy him for less than the market price. If he doesn't do too well and isn't worth that, they won't pay that.

Presumably your hopeful suggestion that he 'dies really well' was merely a Freudian slip, however your other suggestion that this move is good for Juve could be right as the DE have quoted the Juventus OS as saying that the 19 million Euro fee would be payable over three years. Effectively, around 6 mill euros a year to us, which should be very affordable to them for a striker still rated very highly in Italy. Sounds like we have structured the deal to encourage them to buy and we are happy to clear our outgoings on this, even if over time.

Have to admit that I was excited to sign him, but he's proved to be a complete let down & looking like a disruptive influence.

I just hope he does well for Juventus & for Italy in the World Cup. So they or someone will be interested in buying him in the summer.

Sums it up really - hard to think of him as anything other than a talented tosser.

The transfer of Osvaldo? "We wanted to seize those opportunities that were conjugation of technical and economic advantages, free loan and the player has drastically reduced salary. The right of full transfer set in 19 million is quite uncertain, we want to evaluate how he will adapt to the environment then we will see if we have the time and interest to acquire the player. The goal was to raise competition in the squad. This was an opportunity that we should not lose

Sounds like they have absolutely no intention of keeping him for good, well not at that price at least.

A face in the crowd tonight. As previously reported, not even on the bench.

Let's see how long he stomachs that situation.

It was mentioned earlier that the Juve staff are not happy with his fitness situation, so are putting him through extra sessions before he even features.

He'll have to show some good form to get into this Juve team. Either that he has to take Tevez out in training... Pirlo masterclass against Inter at the minute.

Yeah, he looks handy. But Inter aren't anything special these days, just a mid-table Serie A team. Miles off anything.

A bit disconcerting watching The Musketeers again tonight. Last week I was flabbergasted to see Cortese playing King Louis. This week we had the unnerving spectacle of Osvaldo playing Emile Bonnaire.

In this context you can only look back on reflect on how this was doomed from the beginning. You will never succeed in trying to keep Gaius Baltar in line!!!

Geek reference. I am unrepentant.

A measure of Saints desperation to unload him was that

(1) We've left ourselves short or experienced strikers

(2) we gave him away for free - no fee or nothing - not even the promise of a friendly or to lend us back some of theirs sometime which is what i would have gone for if i was rogers..... .

(3) he's supposedly taken a salary drop to leave, and,

(4) the $19M fee is not fixed at all- its a ballpark provisional outline starting figure - they've as good as already said they won't pay that reading between the lines. Its not guaranteed at all they will want to keep him. They got a load of very good forwards already btw - Vucinic, Llorente Tevez,Giovinco, Quagliarella. At least two need to leave in the summer for Dani to stay at Juve.

If Osvaldo does not play much out there expect a bit of a problem in the summer....

I struggled in England and wasn’t really able to adapt. It’s a very physical type of game, with really tough tackling.

I see he also mentions he struggled with training when he started at Juve ??

I thought we have double training sessions? he should be as fit as a fiddle, man clearly has class and talent but not the attributes to make it in the prem, which backs up my belief that if you can play in the prem you can play in any league
