JxgrSaint Posted 22 January, 2014 Share Posted 22 January, 2014 I know this has been covered before, but with Gaston and Dejan out do we need to make some moves in the market? Obviously this wouldn't happen until we appoint a new Chairman but for me it should be a priority. If Dejan were out for the rest of the season (god forbid) would anyone on here be comfortable with MP's third choice CB Mr. Jos Hooiveld playing for a prolonged stretch? So, who is an 'affordable' and available CB? Wouldn't mind Cheikhou Kouyate who we were linked to in the Summer and obviously the Kurt Zouma, Kyriakos Papadopolous type FM wonderkids would be nice if unlikely to join - any other suggestions? alehouseboys Posted 22 January, 2014 Share Posted 22 January, 2014 Dejan is, of course, the bigger loss. We needed to sign a CB in this window anyway, if the injury is longterm then we could now do with 2. Greedy but necessary.

Professor Posted 22 January, 2014 Share Posted 22 January, 2014 Yoshida and Hooiveld have competition from Jordan Turnbull and Jack Stephens which should be enough to keep them motivated. Benjii has already pointed out that our league position this season is virtually assured. If anything, the coaches may well see this as an opportunity for a development squad player to gain some experience.
100%Red&White Posted 22 January, 2014 Share Posted 22 January, 2014 Not at all necessary. We are going to finish 9 th regardless. Fonte performs well with Lovren, we've seen what can happen when it's 1 + an other, 9th is in no way guaranteed. Plus, as other say, there's an opportunity in the cup this year. SNSUN Posted 22 January, 2014 Share Posted 22 January, 2014 Lescott if we can convince city to pick up half his wages as they have for others! Lescott is my choice too, if his wages can be accommodated. Left footed, experienced, and will be playing out of his skin to make sure he makes the plane to Brazil. A clear upgrade on Jos too. It'll be interesting to see whether we do have any ins or outs, whether Katherina backs Pochettino with the finances. Without reinforcements, depending on how long we're without Dejan for, this season could prematurely fizzle out. Time is of the essence though, the sooner we can bring in the CEO, the better. Cabrone Posted 22 January, 2014 Share Posted 22 January, 2014 I can't see the club signing everyone being as Jan transfers are usually inflated and that we are looking pretty comfortable on 31 points. If we were though I'd like a decent back up GK and an attacking mid before CH.

Being ex Everton would he go to Liverpool? In terms of league positions there wont be many (if any) above us that would need him. Although it's money that matters and someone like WHU will probably pay all his wages to get him.

Everton for starters would have him back as Distin is getting on, he would go to Liverpool no worries, why not he has played for a team inbetween so no issue there. United could even possible go for him, class player. You could if you wnated probably juestify him in every squad in the Premiership.

Bearsy Posted 23 January, 2014 Share Posted 23 January, 2014 Yo! We all know our first choice back 5 is sweet & the reserves is butters, but I've checked the stats for interest. I'm calling our first choice Back 5 to be Boruc / Shaw / Lovren / Fonte / and either Clyne or Chambers cos I'm not sure who is first choice. When First Choice Back 5 play 90 mins in Prem we is: P - 11 W - 7 D - 4 L - 0 Points 25 When the back 5 features G-Nigga or Davis or Fox or Jos or Yosh, we is: P - 11 W - 1 D - 3 L - 7 Points 6 Clearly if we could play first choice back 5 all the time, we would be Champions League, just like Ponch promised! I'll assume your stats are right - that's pretty phenomenal. Also, re Lescott loan to Everton, I'm pretty sure there are rules on number of loans from English clubs (I think, maximum is 2) and they've already got Lukaku (Chelsea) and Barry (Man City). They're also supposed to be getting Lamina Traore on loan from Monaco. Surely there must be a limit!! Prem teams loaning so many players is ridiculous. Window Cleaner Posted 23 January, 2014 Share Posted 23 January, 2014 deulofeu from barca too. In fact Everton is success on the never never. They must be good at negociating or pay ridiculously high loan fees. Why buy players when you can rent them from clubs who just buy players to keep their closest rivals from getting them. In the same way West Brom had to this year? I dont know but if they qualify for Europe that would have enhanced their chances of buying more quality, stands to reason dont you think? Our striker has scored 3 goals, been suspended and just belted our own player, not bad for £15 Million, what would you rather have? I keep looking at the table and no matter what way I look at it Everton are in a far better position concering position in the table and recent signings than us. In the same way West Brom had to this year? Oh I don't doubt that they'll find someone else who's surplus to requirements somewhere or other, whether it will be someone of the class of Lukaku is debateable though. As for Traoré they might not even get him, Falcao went down under the effects of an atrocious tackle from a semi-pro player in last night's cup game and it looks as if he may well be out for a while so the theory is that Monaco may not lend Everton Traoré after all. To be confirmed or not at sometime in the next week or so.

LaptopSaint Posted 23 January, 2014 Share Posted 23 January, 2014 Well of our four big signings last summer three are out injured now (Vic back soon) and Johnny Depp suspended. That's pretty bad luck by any standards. The new names that have come up through the ranks - Chambers and JWP - certainly haven't let us down, but is it realistic to expect a couple of others to emerge in the same season - Stephens, Gallagher...? Not really. I think a couple of loans or buys would be ideal, but for all the smiles Katharina has promised she's said nothing about looking to strengthen the squad. Here's hoping... Forren and Mayuka would have been sorted quick as well, there is £34 Million straight there saved. this player loan issue is pretty contentious. there are those who feel its cheating (both for the club that loans this players as they are able to acquire players of a higher quality at a fraction of the cost and for the club that owns the loanees as theses loanees can play against their closest rivals and yet not be able to play against the parent club.) and those who feel since everyone else is doing it why not us? my problem with this is, if we do qualify for Europe this way, then we need to spend huge amounts to buy back the quality lost from loanees returning to their parent clubs and then some more to upgrade the quality of the squad even further to be able to compete in Europe. Unless we are able to loan an entire champions league ready team

If he was the real deal we should be looking at signing him, Lescott must be about that age and clubs seem to be falling over to sign him, Distin is 35 or so and still a kingpiece in Everton's defence.
