Yeovil (FA Cup 4th Round) Thread

I'm bang up for this, and with 3000+ glovers coming down it should be a good atmosphere. Lose and this season may look to be sliding into frustrating mediocrity. Even with Arsenal a few days later I see little point in making widespread changes, although it's hard to see Lovren or Gaston featuring, or Wanyama being fit enough to start. My team:

Boruc

Clyne-Fonte-Yoshida-Shaw

Schneiderlin-Cork

JWP-Davis-Lallana

Osvaldo

Subs: Davis, Chambers, Yoshida, Rodriguez, Reed, Wanyama, Lambert

A 3-1 victory, just like the old days

I'd be inclined to experiment slightly to see if Wanyama, Schneiderlin and Cork can operate in the same team. Not convinced but an FA Cup game against a lower league team is an opportunity to try it out...so....

Boruc

Clyne - Fonte - Yoshida - Shaw

Wanyama - Schneiderlin

Cork

JWP - JRod

Osvaldo

Subs: K Davis, Chambers, Hooiveld, S Davis, Guly, Lallana, Lambert

I think we should play Lee Barnard.

And probably kick two goals into our own net in the first five minutes.

Waste of time when clearly the League is the only priority or something.

Nothing will ever match that feeling ones gets when you finish eighth in the league and nothing but nothing should take our focus away from that wondrous prize.

Let me know when you want me to "do Groundhog Day" again

Boruc is injured so I would go with

Davis

Clyne (LB) Maya Fonte Chambers

Wanyama, JWP, Morgan

Guly, Lallana

Osvaldo

As Shaw seems to be a bit brittle (not a criticism he is so young etc)I would put Clyne at Left back asI never want to see Fox play even against Yeovil.

How is Boruc injured ? Sore balls ?

Anyway I'd go for something different

Davis,Clyne,Fonte,Maya,Shaw (or fox if you must) Cork (unless Vic can play from the start) Schneiderlin Chambers Lallana JRod

Osvaldo.

I really want to see how Chambers would do in a more advance role, with his speed and control it could be a real revelation.

This might be all we have to play now. Get through this game, and it might be a big factor as most other teams left in will have either relegation fears or european commitments/aspirations which might be deemed more important. I think most fans would be happy with 8th/9th place and the FA Cup

Just bought a ticket for my Daughter online looked like the Chapel was filling up quite steadily, shame that the F A Cup has lost a bit of its lustre, a few years ago we would have had a pretty decent crowd.

Has it? Or is it not just dependant on who the opposition is? Yeovil aren't exactly a big draw.

A strong side YES, but not everyone possible. Like the Burnley game, leave Lallana, Lovren and Lambert on the bench for a bit......

.

play Yoshida, and definitely play Osvaldo (he's missed too many games already)....and give Gallagher some sort of a run out ...say the first 45 mins.

We won't get much weaker opposition again this season, and if he can't play alongside someone like Osvaldo in a game like this, then he's still got A LOT more to learn.

If Reed is such a good prospect?, OK.. then start him too. We might get Chelsea or Man.City in Round 5 and then that's not a good time to experiment.

Ok, if given the choice what would you choose: Win against Yeovil and lose to the Arse, or lose to Yeovil and win against the Arse?

I'd choose winning the cup game, and playing our strongest possible team. Rest Lallana etc. if necessary for the Arse game. :)

I'm going to choose the other option, win against both. Arsenal have a cup game as well, true they have more players than us but I just fail to see that our first XI minus a couple on half rest cannot dispatch yeovil easily and come back and beat the Arse. Players want to play all of the time.

I called the ticket office telling there was something wrong with online ticketing. You cant buy a ticket in the entire family centre not the other side of the Chapel. Turns out they're closing down half the stadium.

Taking my 3 year old boy to his first game.

100 percent this. Cup is the priority.

We won't be winning the cup this season

Not with the form of the top 3

We've proven ourselves capable of beating any team on our day, and we've beaten all of the top 3 besides Arsenal since our return to the PL. Only a dodgy own goal stopped us from beating Arsenal last season as well. Home draws and we've got a chance.

We're obviously not favourites, but that's why cups are great.

Play strongest team possible

Boruc(or Davis if Boruc isn't fully fit)

Clyne Fonte Yoshida Shaw

Cork Morgan

Jrod JWP Lallana

Lambert

Subs

Davis/Gazza, Chambers, Davis, Osvaldo, Reed, Fox, Gallagher

Everyone seems to be forgetting (or ignoring) that Wanyama might be available again for this game. Ideal sort of game for him to have at least a bit of a run out, even if it's only for half an hour or so.

Yeovil wanted more tickets and not granted any. Shame for them. Hate seeing empty seats at the Northam and then on TV highlights.

Must be Cortese's fault surely...oh wait up, he hasn't been here for a while. Incompetent planning is what that's about. The shape of things to come perhaps.. Then again perhaps the Hampshire Constabulary decided they couldn't handle more than 3000

farmer's boys without a special bus system or something.

For those that think we won't put out a strong team, look what Pochettino did in the last round...

  • 01 Davis
  • 02 Clyne
  • 23 Shaw
  • 18 Cork
  • 26 Hooiveld (Fonte - 79' )
  • 03 Yoshida
  • 16 Ward-Prowse
  • 04 Schneiderlin
  • 07 Lambert (Rodriguez - 35' )
  • 08 Davis
  • 10 Ramírez (Lallana - 59' )

Substitutes

  • 06 Fonte
  • 09 Rodriguez
  • 20 Lallana
  • 22 Chambers
  • 25 Gazzaniga
  • 38 Reed
  • 40 Gallagher

Plus we now have Boruc, Osvaldo and Wanyama back. But Lovren and Ramiez injured.

thats all a load of nonsense. it is purely down to lack of communication between the clubs, Yeovil were entitled to 4800, but they had to say that at the beginning before we started selling block 42 to saints fans.

as they waited until they sold the initial 3100 before asking for more it was too late by then.

perhaps saints should have held back block 42 on the off chanced Yeovil needed more to maximise revenue.

They are entitled to 15% of the available accommodation so if we close half the stadium there aren't so many seats available. It seems that the club will miss out on a chunk of revenue.
